Food that is not Christmas food but that you only eat at Christmas

So not your typical Christmas pudding, mince pies etc but what other things do you only eat at Christmas? I’ve just had a double decker bar from a selection box and it was so delicious it’s made me wonder why I never buy them throughout the year, but always eat one at Christmas!

I have also spent the last few days working my way through a big bag of honey roasted cashew nuts - so good! But only really ‘allowed’ at Christmas according to the weird rules about Christmas food I seem to have made up in my head for no apparent reason Grin. Any others to add to the list?

Homemade toblerone mousse. The family go wild for it, but only made at Christmas in our house.

Sweetsherrynotdry · 29/12/2022 18:56

Boursin, so tasty but only seem to have it at Christmas then forget about it until the following year.
Sherry!

TennyTroo · 29/12/2022 18:57

Only at Christmas-

Cheese & crackers
Port
Turkey
Lindt Chocolates
Hot chocolate

Don't eat/drink any of this during the year, so it's definitely a treat.

Brussel sprouts, baileys, trifle, stuffing, Turkey, boxes or tins of chocolates, fruit cake, cranberry sauce

bloomingheather · 29/12/2022 19:00

Salt n vinegar peanuts
Trifle
Baileys
Same with cream - only ever have it at Christmas!
Shortbread & Madeira cake (Hogmanay tradition in Scotland!)

Roast parsnips - absolutely love them, but never cook them at any other time. (Also only have sprouts at Christmas, and like them - but I lurve parsnips …)

swashbucklecheer · 29/12/2022 19:02

Tunnocks tea cakes and snowballs

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 29/12/2022 19:14

Butter and white bread for toast.

hattie43 · 29/12/2022 19:20

Toblerone

timtam23 · 29/12/2022 19:23

Home-made Dundee cake
Mashed swede
Braised red cabbage
Panettone
Brussels sprouts (for DH)
Roast parsnips
Big tubes of Smarties
Morrison's mint thins (much nicer than After Eights)

saveforthat · 29/12/2022 19:28

Same. I was just thinking, I eat all of these all year round (except turkey soup)

Port! It’s delicious but I can’t imagine drinking it on a sunny day or warm evening! In fact I don’t touch it any month apart from December.

Same! When December comes I go crazy! It’s not even expensive and I wonder why I don’t do port and Stilton throughout the colder months!!

kimchifix · 29/12/2022 19:30

Branston Pickle. Any other time of the year I wouldn't bother or I'd get a lovely fig chutney type thing.

Anewhoo · 29/12/2022 19:31

Oh and shortbread. Although I haven’t had any this year 😔

jazzybelle · 29/12/2022 20:03

Where did you find honey roasted cashews? All the ones I have seen had peanuts mixed in too this year.

M&S. Far too moreish

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 29/12/2022 20:04

Honey roast cashews too. Always in my stocking, comes in handy when Christmas Dinner is inevitably late (even when I cook!).
Baklava - love the stuff, pretty much only eat at Christmas.
Potted shrimp!

M&S do nice ones.

Cherrysherbet · 29/12/2022 20:06

Anchor spreadable. The rest of the year it’s clover light!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/12/2022 20:08

It used to be pickled onions for DH - always used to buy a jar for him, but he seems to have gone off them.

BTW, thanks to whoever on MN said to get panettone from Wilko. We did & are on our last one, so I checked their sale & they're down to £3 at the moment.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 29/12/2022 20:13

Florentine biscuits. I usually get them from M&S but they were greasy this year.

pastypirate · 29/12/2022 20:14

Red Leicester cheese swirl thing with chives in the middle god I love it

ditherydotty · 29/12/2022 20:21

After eight mints
Sausage meat for the stuffing
A whole Turkey
Double cream and whiskey for our Irish coffee
Baileys

OooScotland · 29/12/2022 20:25

We have kedgeree for dinner on Christmas Eve every year. Love it but it just never enters my head to cook it any other time.

YouWouldNotBelieveIt · 29/12/2022 20:26
