Unexpected Christmas present wins

There was a thread a couple of years back where people posted their unexpectedly brilliant present wins - it was quite heartwarming so I wondered if anyone had any this year? I do - we got DS these tiny rubbery creepy crawly tentacle things you chuck at a wall and they slowly roll down, as a stocking filler, and he’s been playing with them all morning - the greens and yellows are zombies and the others are the goodies apparently - there has been much monologue-ing! He’s barely touched anything else 😂😂😂

A jelly sweet 'pizza' in the stocking! DS acting like it is touched by the hand of God himself 😂😂

Youngest child, two packets of balloons. Middle child, hand knitted stripy sweater vest from grandma, beyond thrilled. Oldest child, Calvin and Hobbes book, most absorbed!

A shitty £6 metallic darts game I can't even call it a dartboard it's more a darts scroll!!!

I want to get these, did you get online?

MissyB1 · 25/12/2022 14:05

14 year old ds, a packet of toffee popcorn and the Man Utd annual. He grabbed those and announced he was going to be busy for a while…. 😂

Christmasbahhumbug · 25/12/2022 14:17

An alien wrist blaster thing from Poundland!

PuttingDownRoots · 25/12/2022 14:17

Highlighters for DD1. Pastel rather than neon. And post it notes.

MistyIsland · 25/12/2022 14:18

Very small nerf guns have kept my 2 happy for about an hour and a half...about £4 each 😂

BadgerFace · 25/12/2022 14:21

£1 twisty worm from Tiger. Until the invisible string somehow broke from DD2’s who is now super sad and has been crying about poor Fred the worm…

Greensleevevssnotnose · 25/12/2022 14:22

I bought oh a pair of vintage 70s pjs, think Austin Powers. He put them straight on. Took a million photos and has been tweeting them to everyone. I would. Like him to dress for dinner but he says no. He looks so sexy I can't put my foot down

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 25/12/2022 14:22

An expensive wifi bird box from my wife and son as ‘you do so much for us both’ and now it’s suddenly misty in here

drspouse · 25/12/2022 14:27

A Lego Ninjago set for DS. He has dyspraxia so has never put one together before, he's absorbed in it now with DH.

Roselilly36 · 25/12/2022 14:28

Mini Waffle Maker from Lakeland

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 25/12/2022 14:32

Christmas themed rubix cube from home bargains & mini light savers with little mini Star Wars figures so far. My DCs are all unwell at the moment so most of the presents are just put to one side until they feel up to getting them all out.

McConkeysPlate · 25/12/2022 14:33

A den making kit. Adults and kids have been hiding in there for hours.

Remainiac · 25/12/2022 14:34

Not me but DGCs got cushions with their own faces on superhero bodies. Couldn’t have been more excited 😆

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/12/2022 14:42

Oh dear OP, he seems to have one stuck to his face! 😂

We had some of these things a couple of years ago as 'table presents'. Great fun and the greasy marks are still visible on the walls! 😡

Love it Xmas Grin

SweetSakura · 25/12/2022 14:46

Blu tak for DD (age 9). She's absolutely thrilled with it

Sideorderofchips · 25/12/2022 14:47

A supercar colouring book and a build your own remote control car for the youngest

Make up for the middle

Totoro hoodie for the eldest

BearSoFair · 25/12/2022 14:49

20 (!) yr old DS1, 2 novelty boxes of odd socks. He keeps swapping them over trying to find the 'best' combination to have on together. I did check if he'd opened the rum as explanation for the excitement but no! Grin

Lots of wins here today and happily not many (if any?) misses.
Unexpected wins have been...
Squishmallows (I know they're popular but I've always found them a bit weird!) - both my 10yo and 4yo DDs are in love!
£10 cardboard ice cream van from hobby craft!

More of a general win is the fact that I had half the usual budget for my DS(14) because he had a big chunk of his Christmas present as a joint birthday present. So Christmas presents were fewer, more carefully thought out, went down a slightly more practical route than usual (for instance clothes because they'd be things he would need anyway but also something to unwrap!) Anyway, half the budget, more practical than usual and he couldn't be more delighted with what he has. So that was a win and perhaps a lesson that I could rein things in a bit in future!

sittingonacornflake · 25/12/2022 14:55

Patio heater! I'm made up!

Wiaa · 25/12/2022 14:55

Both my ds's 3&6 had slippers from grandma that they put straight on.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 25/12/2022 14:58

My DBro bought my middle child a book called Things to do while you poo. DS2 (14) was in actual tears of laughter reading it and then telling FIL on FaceTime.I was a bit meh when it arrived for me to wrap. I was wrong.

other things that are wins aren’t unexpected really. Nothing a complete distasteful thankfully, DS1 (16) was surprisingly happy with the graphic novels I chose (man in shop helped!) esp after he’d said no books for Christmas, agreed with me that they didn’t count as really comics 😂

DD (11) happy with the random makeup choices I selected in a panic as don’t wear any so that’s a relief more than a surprise.
