Hello,
It's getting to that bit of Christmas where I'm starting to panic about things not arriving in time
Currently I'm awaiting a necklace, that has suddenly jumped to expected deliver on the 23rd. Its the main part of my mum's gifts

Lots of other bits struggling to find their way through the post including a key ring that should have arrived at the weekend.

What is everyone else waiting for?

I don't think I've actually ordered much that would be delivered direct other than by Amazon. The exception to this was a couple of pairs of pyjamas that were out of stock at Next so I went direct to the company. One pair was delivered but I didn't hear anything about the other pair. When I contacted then, after a couple of weeks, they couldn't explain what had happened but refunded me and gave me a discount voucher off my next order. Unfortunately this wouldn't even cover the postage cost so I went back to Next and chose a different pair for click and collect.
I have noticed that click and collect times seem to have been longer than usual but have, so far, received everything ordered. Just now waiting on a final pack of socks from Next (ordered for delivery in 7 days) and a separate cycling pair via Amazon and then I'm done.
I do start quite early, though, as my sister's birthday is the middle of December and I try to do all my Christmas posting on 1st. Everything sent on 2nd this year due to the strike but parcel was collected from the sorting office yesterday.
I honestly don't blame the workers for their industrial action at this time of year. Of course we have to be inconvenienced for the government to sit up and take notice and, hopefully, for negotiations to take place. You can't keep cutting salaries in real terms and expect services to carry on as normal.

Small business owners, are there some parcels you can't claim for at all then? I am waiting for a present from etsy and when I contacted the seller a couple of days ago he said he's had about 100 customers who haven't had their (original and handmade) orders. I said I'll message him next week if it still hasn't turned up and was planning to tell him to claim from RM when he can and send a replacement in the new year. If it's going to end up costing him, I will tell him not to worry about it.

TippyToesKnows · 09/12/2022 19:07

5 different parcels dispatched on 29th Nov and still no sign :(

I can't claim for any RM missing parcels. It forms part of the business user contract.
Even if you send as a personal customer with proof of posting and you can claim, for handmade items the claims process is lengthy. You have to include a receipt/invoice for each individual element of the item sold.
It really isn't as simple as "put a claim in" when you're a business.

Theopossumwasmeantforme · 09/12/2022 19:43

I have a couple of parcels currently lost in the ether. I worry about people who've left it a bit later!

I need to send a present, but it includes perfume so I think royal mail or parcelforce are my only options. The last stuff for it only arrived today. 😐

hattie43 · 09/12/2022 19:48

I'm waiting for a fair bit too .
Lego set
Back brace ... don't ask
Few Xmas pieces from Etsy
Handcream set

The handcream set was a part of a Christmas gift for someone I'm seeing Sunday so now I'll have to go out tomorrow and buy something else .

LIZS · 09/12/2022 20:06

Just checked dpd site, now scheduled for Monday Hmm

CaramelizedNuts · 09/12/2022 20:07

The back log is going to be so big I can't see how they will catch up.

I've not seen a postie all week despite the strike not being every day.

I've got several items stuck from Etsy sellers

Georgieporgie29 · 09/12/2022 20:16

A couple of moonpig cards I ordered a couple of weeks ago, one is for my sisters birthday tomorrow 🤦🏼‍♀️

An order from Amazon (although sent by seller as I paid postage) has been continually delayed, the status has now been updated to say if it isn’t delivered by 12th I can claim a refund

A last minute order for an air up bottle has already had 2 separate emails warning me due to a high demand deliveries will take longer so I’m not holding out much hope for that

This has made me realise I too ordered from Moonpig recently a card and hamper for my DILs parents, its being delivered to their address in Ireland, I wondered why they hadnt thanked me, they probably havent received it yet

RenardeRenarde · 10/12/2022 02:28

I’m not in the UK so no postal strikes, but I’m still anxiously waiting for about 6 parcels that may or may not arrive on time.
I would usually have started earlier than the first week of December but I caught some hideous bug that laid me flat for the last few weeks of November, I’ve ordered everything via Amazon (at increased cost) to try and get it here on time but they’re currently tracking as due for delivery between the 18th and 21st. Any delay at this point is going to see Christmas morning looking a bit bare!
Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting

snowmanshoes · 10/12/2022 09:31

Had notification about dds trainers they should be here Tuesday (UPS) so 🤞 but nothing from anything else I’m waiting for ……

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 10/12/2022 09:58

A big delivery pile today.
mainly Christmas. One was a ds 18th birthday present which were doing today so that was good.
No cards
and I ordered three a few weeks ago to be on the safe side.
Postie got my hopes up as he actually came back again but it was something my husband had ordered ages ago and had given up on and had to go and buy in person anyway.

That is really shocking to me. A really unfair term that presumably you just have to accept! I assume you get a lower postage rate? But that isn't going to cover more than occasional losses surely.
Oh well, if the item doesn't arrive I will just leave it then.

The discount is marginal these days. I was getting free collections and all of my large letters have a delivery confirmation barcode which I can't get in the Post Office so that's why I've stuck with them and they are pretty reliable, but my collections are stopping next week and they now want nearly £6 a day to collect after changing the criteria.
I don't have many missing items usually, but I'm getting quite a lot of refund demands at the moment and I simply can't afford to do it. My sales are down 40% on last year, and I've just lost a weeks trade because I now can't guarantee Christmas delivery like I normally would.
The CWU are dragging the rest of us down with them.

Tinywaffle · 10/12/2022 11:17

I’ve actually found the small businesses way more helpful than the large ones for delayed parcels - even in just responding.

Im waiting on a large order for Neom
from 15th November and their response ( took over a week to respond) was just ‘it will turn up eventually’ with no possibility to reply, just back to the back of the waiting for a response queue. I can see the delay was also their end in sending it out ).

LIZS · 10/12/2022 11:37

Dpd managed to deliver this morning, so a relief, but nothing from RM yet today.

justasking111 · 10/12/2022 12:49

Well I'm baffled royal mail sent me a text this morning saying something has been received by them and is on its way

Trouble is I've nothing due to be delivered all my orders completed a week ago.

Dogsinthecradle · 08/12/2022 22:31

I’m not sure-all I know is I’ve not not got it and the seller is now ignoring me
im waiting for Etsy to get back to me
im annoyed as it was perfect for the person I’d ordered it for and I can’t find another one to replace it
8 weeks is a joke to wait for it-everything else as arrived-3/4 parcels where a few days late but this sodding card just hasn’t arrived!

Yeah 8 weeks is too long even with the strikes

I was getting worried when my Fraser fir Christmas tree didn’t arrive yesterday on its due date, but the forestry company phoned me in the afternoon to say they were chasing the courier company on my behalf, and had told them to prioritise it.
Credit where due, it arrived first thing this morning, phew. I can’t even lift it, so it absolutely had to be here in time for my family to arrive from Edinburgh to put it up and decorate it on this, their only free weekend pre Christmas.

I had no idea you could courier a Christmas tree

CaramelizedNuts · 10/12/2022 13:30

I've not seen a postie for more than a week.
Are they just not doing rounds on non strike days ?

justasking111 · 10/12/2022 13:38

You know all the junk mail you get. Companies pay good money for those to be delivered in a timely manner. They're not going to pay now.

MunchMunch · 10/12/2022 14:03

An update to my previous post:

late Thursday I ordered from JD Sports, parcel has been split into 2, one parcel has arrived today delivered by Evri so delivery was pretty much on time.

On Thursday night I also ordered a Ninja just before doing my JD sports order and that is being delivered by DPD - apparently that is coming today with a time slot 😏despite them having another parcel for week and I'm still getting the message that it's been delayed.

Royal Mail parcel has arrived and I ordered less than a week ago.

Dh has been reading that DPD have a lucrative contract with Parcel Force/Royal Mail so they're delaying any original DPD deliveries in favour of PF/RM parcels - who knows though?!

Babdoc · 10/12/2022 14:14

@alasangne you can indeed courier a Christmas tree! Click on sendmeachristmastree.co.uk.
They have a good choice of types and sizes, and cut them fresh just before your despatch date, so they are not wilting by Boxing Day. They are couriered by Tuffnells, who not only apologised for arriving a day late, but carried the v heavy 7ft tree round to my back door for me.

Are people really so bothered about one day instead of people's lives?
