What is your husband buying you for Christmas this year?

I need some inspiration. My husband has asked me what I want for Christmas and I'm drawing a blank!
Only thing I can think of is the new (regular) reading kindle with the light. But there's nothing wrong with my old kindle (with no light)...so not sure I want it gathering dust.
What have you all asked this year?
Or what would you really like?

Nothing. We can't afford to buy each other gifts this year

I wanted a kindle, I’ve misplaced my one somewhere, thought it would turn up, but it hasn’t.
But DP doesn’t really ‘get’ kindles, and said why not an iPad instead.
But I’m not too sure, what does the kindle do that you can’t do in the kindle app with an iPad? I used to be such a big reader, but have sort of dropped it over the last few years

The battery lasts for weeks not hours.

It looks like a book not a screen. I keep the light on mine on setting 6 out of 20 permanently. In daylight it looks completely unlit and in the dark, it is just right for reading.

You can read it without getting distracted by 'the internet', which is probably most important for anyone who's reading has sort of dropped off over the past few years Smile

The Paperwhite (waterproof one) is currently £95 on a Black Friday deal, so only a tenner more than the most basic one.

You can do trade in on Kindles OP for discount off a new one and an extra 20% off but you would have to live without one then until you get the new one!

My wish list in case of inspiration!

Fancier bubble bath than my usual
New running headphones
Wool coat

We long ago gave up exchanging gifts ... even after 34 years of marriage neither of us gets it 'quite right'. All finances are shared, we can (within reason) buy whatever we want but like others have got to the stage where we don't want anymore clutter in our lives. This morning we have been romantically discussing adding to our pension pot Grin.

Same here. Gifts are just tokens as we buy what we want when we want it, within reason. If I have to tell anyone what to buy, it's not a gift as to me, the gift is choosing something.

I want a surprise, but because I know I'm hard to buy for, I'm perfectly happy to receive some gin and a food treat. I said to DP, if it looks expensive for what it is, eg £10 for a small box of chocolates, it will probably be good.

Decafflatteplease · 22/11/2022 09:03

We don't do presents for each other as on a budget but we will treat ourselves to a.nice takeaway over the holidays when the children are asleep. Probably a Mexican or Indian.

However if I was to be asked what I'd like I have my eye on a lovely cross stitch kit!

starsinyourpies · 22/11/2022 09:03

Also I have the paper white and it's perfect for reading in all lights, easy to adjust the brightness.

Snoooozzze · 22/11/2022 09:07

My DH is usually given a broad list of things I like and then he chooses what to actually buy with DD so I go for:

PJs /lounge set
slippers
Lindor chocolates or Ferraro Rocher
Perfume
Gin
Bath smellies
Candles
Vouchers

This year I've added (Amazon wish list has come in handy!)

Penguin clothbound classic books(any of the collection-he can physically see the ones I already have and I'm aiming for the set eventually 😊)
Nigel slater The Christmas Chronicles

Cherryrainbow · 22/11/2022 09:22

I asked for jamie campbell bower's autograph.
And some stranger things collectibles cos I'm a big old nerd lol.

Hbh17 · 22/11/2022 09:25

Er, how would I know? We haven't had Xmas yet! Don't generally make a fuss about presents, but in over 30 years the only "rules" are 1) should be a surprise and 2) nothing practical (like f**ng saucepans 😂).

Sevensilverrings · 22/11/2022 08:18

Something cashmere.
theatre tickets
art books
drawing inks
knitted socks or gloves
a weekend in London to visit galleries
framed artwork from my kids.

(i will get Turkish delight, a book and lots of hugs, which is absolutely fine)!

Turkish delight & books actually sounds fabulous!

No idea. We always do surprises for each other. Never got it wrong. We think outside the box a lot.

Apart from being back-lit the new standard kindle is lighter than the others so easier to hold. The paperwhite has water resistance of some type, great if you read in the bath. It also has warm Amber light which is meant to resemble page colour of a book and be easier on the eyes. The kindle signature has same, bigger screen (6.8) compared to 6 on standard and wireless charging. I've probably missed a few features on both. There's also a new kindle coming out on pre order, almost £400 and you can write on it.

@Mrsfussypants1 is it the paperwhite that has the Amber lighting? Thank you so much for explaining them to me!

I just had my birthday and got the new kindle, my ancient old one still works but Amazon stopped supporting buying books straight from the kindle because it’s ancient so DH treated me to a new one. I love that it has lights but I’m still getting used to the lack of buttons Grin

I had a quick look at the models because I wanted to buy a case and I think the paperwhite has more lights? I didn’t really dig into it as I was just looking for sizes, but there’s a table on Amazon comparing the different models.

Thank you! Yeah I just have a basic kindle now but it's touch screen. The choice is confusing!
I remember my sister getting a paperwhite though & saying she preferred the regular kindle, so that was the only thing putting me off the paperwhite.

That's really lovely.
He actually got me all surprises last year & did an excellent job.
He's told me he's struggling to think of something this year.
There's a really fancy coat I like but I could see it only being worn once or twice a year.
So I was thinking another kindle I'd definitely use it every day.

So does the paperwhite have this Amber light setting? Would you recommend over the regular kindle?

We are doing each other a stocking and having a weekend away together as we prefer time together than stuff .
The stocking will have luxury items that are a treat of things we normally buy- favourite chocolate, luxury bubble bath etc.

BigScreen · 22/11/2022 09:47

Not sure. We never ask each other. We like surprises.

Diamond earrings. I've suddenly got into jewellery again so very excited!

My husband doesn't get reading either (it's a cultural thing), he humours me however & is actually delighted now the kids love to read.
Do you have young kids? I found I dropped off reading altogether after my kids until my eldest was 15 then got back to it in a big way.

That sounds lovely! I used to love jewellery I've lost my enthusiasm, maybe I'll get it back sometime 🤞

I’ve asked him for a Rolex but I think it’s going to be a Swatch at best 🤣.

On a serious note, Annick Goutal perfume, gold hoop earrings and a cashmere jumper are on my list.

WinterLobelia · 22/11/2022 09:52

I am hoping he gets me absolutely nothing. He went massively overboard for my birthday in the summer which was amazing and unexpected (he bought me some exceptionally rare china which is one of my interests) and paid a fortune for it so I have asked that this does for Christmas too! (Cost of living and all that).

Other than that I would really like Netflix.

Mrsfussypants1 · 22/11/2022 09:53

@LaTangerina I don't think the new standard kindle has the Amber light feature, the paperwhite and paperwhite signature do. So many models available there's a lot to choose from, and probably will take a bit of getting used to compared with the one your using. I've opted for the signature paperwhite, not fussed by its wireless charging abilities but I went with it because its screen size is a bit bigger which will hopefully work better for me though it is a bit heavier. I'm ready books on my tablet through the kindle app and it's just not the same, I've a week off in January and can't wait to spend time using it.
