What is your husband buying you for Christmas this year?

I need some inspiration. My husband has asked me what I want for Christmas and I'm drawing a blank!
Only thing I can think of is the new (regular) reading kindle with the light. But there's nothing wrong with my old kindle (with no light)...so not sure I want it gathering dust.
What have you all asked this year?
Or what would you really like?

I’m getting two bottles of perfume as it’s on special offer this week and it will last me the year

I don’t know what else but I need something for my hair like a wand or crumpets to add volume

last year I got a necklace (bumblebee from Alex monroe) and prior to that we got very little for each other for several years due to not much money with young kids.

Slimjimtobe · 22/11/2022 08:03

Crimpera 😅😅😅

Slimjimtobe · 22/11/2022 08:03

Crimpers.

LaTangerina · 22/11/2022 08:07

Thank you so much for the ideas everyone!
For those of you who've got kindles, what's the difference between the paperwhite & the new regular kindle that can light up?
Apart from price?
Does the paperwhite light up constantly?
I do sometimes read when he's sleeping & have to do so on my phone so a light up kindle would be handy.
Any of you have a reading pillow also?
Do you find them handy?

A ski holiday, my favourite face creams and make up, a Dry Robe, a GoPro, Le Creuset casserole, new riding boots, Leonidas chocolates, a special new fountain pen, a Kerastraight treatment, Ugg slippers…

Boooooot · 22/11/2022 08:10

We don’t discuss what we buy each other they’re surprises. I thought that was normal but clearly we’re in the minority!

😃

We buy each other two presents - one we discuss and one we don't. The surprise gift has a low price tag on it. We love each other but it turns out both of us are capable of buying the most awful gifts!

familyissues12345 · 22/11/2022 08:14

I've asked for some cookery stuff - le creuset etc. We started Gousto boxes a few months ago and it's really got me into cooking! I'd now like some new stuff to make it even easier - we're about to move house so it'll look nice in my new kitchen!

If that all fails, the fallback is a bottle of Idole by Lancôme Grin

I wanted a kindle, I’ve misplaced my one somewhere, thought it would turn up, but it hasn’t.
But DP doesn’t really ‘get’ kindles, and said why not an iPad instead.
But I’m not too sure, what does the kindle do that you can’t do in the kindle app with an iPad? I used to be such a big reader, but have sort of dropped it over the last few years

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 22/11/2022 08:18

Aftershave (I don't like perfumes generally)

FourChimneys · 22/11/2022 08:18

We don't really do Christmas or presents at a particular time. But the thing I want most and which we'll go to buy together is a tree. A certain species, not just a random one.

Sevensilverrings · 22/11/2022 08:18

Something cashmere.
theatre tickets
art books
drawing inks
knitted socks or gloves
a weekend in London to visit galleries
framed artwork from my kids.

(i will get Turkish delight, a book and lots of hugs, which is absolutely fine)!

FilthyforFirth · 22/11/2022 08:21

Another one going away. My bday is in January and I've asked him to combine and take me away for a long weekend.

Preferably abroad but finances what they are, probably somewhere in the UK. I dont mind so long as it's a Friday-Monday job!!

With two small children and our marriage not in great shape, hoping some proper downtime will help.

Presents I'm still using years later - kindle paperwhite, Dyson hairdryer, Phillips lumea, a barbour jacket (I was horrified at the price initially but it washes and wears beautifully and still going strong 8 years later). This year I think I'll ask for a new pair of Nike Air force 1s or maybe some luxury lounge wear. I always ask for nice bars of soap that I use during the year.

Mrsfussypants1 · 22/11/2022 08:30

Apart from being back-lit the new standard kindle is lighter than the others so easier to hold. The paperwhite has water resistance of some type, great if you read in the bath. It also has warm Amber light which is meant to resemble page colour of a book and be easier on the eyes. The kindle signature has same, bigger screen (6.8) compared to 6 on standard and wireless charging. I've probably missed a few features on both. There's also a new kindle coming out on pre order, almost £400 and you can write on it.

I just had my birthday and got the new kindle, my ancient old one still works but Amazon stopped supporting buying books straight from the kindle because it’s ancient so DH treated me to a new one. I love that it has lights but I’m still getting used to the lack of buttons Grin

I had a quick look at the models because I wanted to buy a case and I think the paperwhite has more lights? I didn’t really dig into it as I was just looking for sizes, but there’s a table on Amazon comparing the different models.

Cross posted with much more knowledgeable mrsfussypants Grin

what does the kindle do that you can’t do in the kindle app with an iPad?

@PicturesOfDogs

I started with a kindle, good points are how long one battery charge lasts.

Some people find the unlit kindle easier to read in bright sunlight.

Once I had the iPad (or big screen iPhone) though, the convenience of reading on the device I was already holding meant I hardly ever bother with the kindle again.

The iPad's colour is better for newspapers / magazine subscriptions.

FinallyHere · 22/11/2022 08:41

Oops, took me so long to work out what I wanted to say about iPad v kindle, two others had posted the same thing much more succinctly

Sigh

PauliesWalnuts · 22/11/2022 08:45

I suggested the new Monty Don book on Adriatic gardens, Alan Rickman’s diaries, and membership to Cycling UK. I’m trying to declutter so don’t really want to add to the pile of stuff I already have.

MyMilkshakeScaresAllTheBoys · 22/11/2022 08:47

My silk pillowcase has seen better days so I am getting him to replace it and allowing him to pick the colour (knowing he likes grey). Otherwise I'd have bought them myself.

YorkieTheRabbit · 22/11/2022 08:49

He’s bought me a Nigel Slater book and John Lewis beauty calendar and usually buys me chocolates. I’ve no idea if he’ll get me anything else but I’m more than happy with these.

Sagittarius25 · 22/11/2022 08:51

We both struggle with what to buy each other and usually I draw a blank when he asks what I want. What doesn't help is my birthday is late November so anyone who asks me what I want for Xmas I have no idea! We are fortunate enough that when either of us would like something we usually just buy it, so a spending ban comes in few months before Xmas 😂 this year though I have been able to give him actual ideas. We are going to the British Grand Prix next year so said I would like a McLaren top to wear there. And then I've asked for some new make up brushes as mine are so so old (although this involves me picking the exact ones I would like)! 😂

Ragwort · 22/11/2022 08:51

We long ago gave up exchanging gifts ... even after 34 years of marriage neither of us gets it 'quite right'. All finances are shared, we can (within reason) buy whatever we want but like others have got to the stage where we don't want anymore clutter in our lives. This morning we have been romantically discussing adding to our pension pot Grin.

TartanGirl1 · 22/11/2022 08:54

I have asked for the Shark Flexstyler but it is sold out in a lot of places so might not be an option.
