I usually put mine up around the beginning of December, DH is usually happy to leave it to me and doesn't usually have any festive cheer until he's finished work for Christmas. This year is different though, he's already watched Christmas films with dd who's 7 and he's mentioned putting the tree up this weekend. I'm not sure if it's too early? On the other hand if he's found his festive cheer I'm going to enjoy it, christmas is my favourite time of year and I'm usually desperate for him to be more festive 😂

Ours will go up next weekend, we always put it up on the last Sunday in November.

CaronPoivre · 19/11/2022 08:56

It’s the middle of November. Not even winter yet.

Allmarbleslost · 19/11/2022 08:57

Ours will go up next weekend. We're going through a bit of a shit time and need some Christmas cheer in our lives.

pilates · 19/11/2022 08:58

First weekend in December

Ohdearnotagain76 · 19/11/2022 09:03

I’ve put a few bits up and out that I’ve brought as can’t be arsed putting them in loft. Ours normally go up from December but my DD is back from uni next weekend so will probably do most of them then if we can. Wasn’t going to go all out this year as kids not little but not sure

Parker231 · 19/11/2022 09:03

No - it always goes up the weekend before Christmas so 17 December and then down on NYE.

RealDeeBliss · 19/11/2022 09:04

No because Christmas is in December. Decorate with lights and what not for winter then get the tree up next month. Will you be starting a thread in a month saying you're pulling it all down as you're sick of it as it's been up for ages?

No, I don't get sick of the tree and decorations but then again it's not normally up this early

It's far too early for me-would be sick of the sight of it by mid December!

Ours usually goes up mid December and down on New Year's Eve/day depending on what we're doing. I should imagine it'll be down 30th December this year as going away for NYE

I'm always sad when the Xmas lights come down though, they give a tiny bit of cheer when it's dark and miserable outside

AppleandSpice · 19/11/2022 09:10

It’s only too early if you think it’s too early. If you are likely to be sick of it by Christmas and wanting to take it down on Boxing Day then I’d leave it another week or two.

if not then put it up. It took my dh years to embrace Christmas (due to his upbringing) and is commonly known as The Grinch and Humbug here.

So if I was you I’d embrace your dhs festive cheer whilst you can!

glasshole · 19/11/2022 09:11

Of course YOU can put up YOUR decorations if you want to. Ignore the Pele who are telling you no. It's a free world and we are going through an absolute shit time as a country, after several years of shit times. If a bit of tinsel , terribly lights and a tree mages you feel better and your moood improve and it gives your kiddo lots of excitement then GO For It.

Mine are going up today. I've had a truly awful November with a bad car accident, two hospitalised family members, trying to get used to HRT and a friendship break up. I'm on my knees, I need something and as I'm on benefits I'm piss poor broke. So decorations it is. And I won't apologise to all of the pearl clutching idiots that seem to believe they can police what I do in my own home.

frozendaisy · 19/11/2022 09:11

We get a real spruce so the tree smells of Christmas as well as just visual. But they drop needles quick so we wait until 16th ish to have a sporting chance there are some needles left by Christmas day.

Justcallmebebes · 19/11/2022 09:11

Mine goes up the week before Christmas

My dh is known as the grinch by me too so the fact he's unusually festive makes me want to enjoy it while it lasts. I've just put the radio on and a Christmas song is playing

Well take that as a sign to get your tree up!

Gosh that’s very aggressive. Honestly I don’t think anyone really cares, you can habe them up year round if you wish. Hope you feel better

chineapplepunks · 19/11/2022 09:14

We've got the tree up but only because we just bought a new one and didn't want to put the box away for a week. Decs aren't on it yet though!

I'm sorry to hear about your rubbish time. It really improves my overall mood once the tree and decs are up, the weathers cold and rubbish and it just makes me feel better.

DS3 has an end of November birthday, so ours goes up the weekend after that.
But he’s asking for the tree already this year, so much for wanting to give him his moment 😂😂

ImNotEntirelySureAboutThat · 19/11/2022 09:16

'Who has their tree and decs up?'

Err, mad people?

Novemberhater · 19/11/2022 09:16

My tree is happier growing in its pot in the garden. I'll bring it in for its fourth year for a week so as not to stress it too much, so on the 23rd or 24th December.

DD's birthday is December and we usually wait until just before her birthday to put the tree up, dd isn't bothered about waiting until her birthday though she said

Nooo! It's November!
1st December I put up decorations, apart from the Christmas tree as I don't want it to drop too many needles, so that's usually around 10th December.
Having said that, I do enjoy the efforts of a man in a nearby village who goes absolutely bonkers with his garden lights from last week in November.

Skelligsfeathers · 19/11/2022 09:17

It is November.
It is not Christmas.
It us not advent.

Put up some dairy lights around a mirror or on a tree in the garden or something so you get the pretty winter sparkles but fir the love if god, don't put up Christmas decorations.

You have a 7 year old. I really think putting the tree up at this stage ruins any magic because it is so far from actual Christmas. The wait is too long, it all becomes common place and by boxing day you'll be bored with it and pulling it all down!
Wait until it is actually Christmas!

We have someone a few streets away who decorated the front of his house with Christmas lights every year, I drove past yesterday and they were all up
