It feels bizarre setting up the first Christmas thread on one of the hottest days of the year, yet here we are!

Lovely to see you all; take a seat and grab a mince pie as they get passed around.

Please do alert me to anything for the next thread's page of links (I'm starting fresh this year). Hope you've had a good year and looking forward to celebrating and sharing our bargain buys.

I wonder what will be the Christmas bargain/controversy in 2022. There's always one!

What was the controversy last year?

ColeslawSandwich · 15/08/2022 16:32

Can anyone remember the robot that you put tokens in to? Was that 2011?

Space321 · 15/08/2022 15:20

Can I ask about Christmas cross stitches. Which brand/patterns do you use please?

I’ve got loads of patterns from my Nan who gets a couple of cross stitch magazines a week but there’s some lovely free ones here on the DMC website

DMC Christmas

I like the look of metallic thread but my Nan has always told me it’s really hard to work with so not sure if I can be bothered with it!

@MarthaMayWhovier

One I remember was the JL glitch. The offer was if you bought YSL products totalling more than £100 you got £20 off.
However the glitch meant that you got £20 off every item in your basket, so not only off each YSL product but off anything else as well eg toys/clothing/homeware. Apparently some people got hundreds of pounds worth of goods for say £30.
I think JL twigged fairly early on but some people got their items.

The discussion got very heated from what I can remember .

What was the controversy last year?

How can it become controversial?

PrimroseWharf · 15/08/2022 16:47

Not started any shopping yet but looking forward to getting some early shopping done and a few bargains along the way!

BadgerFace · 15/08/2022 17:01

@NightOwl101 I’ve just managed to use the Lego Dot voucher deal so worth another look today! Thanks to the original poster. 😀

I’m playing catch up on the thread. Thanks @Reastie, good to be here for another year!

bizzey · 15/08/2022 17:05

I messaged on the wrong thread !
I put my self forward on the pre-quil thread ...then when I saw @Reastie name ...I realised ....this was my thread !!

Anyhow..I did buy something from the other thread .

Bargain enough for me ☺️.

Heated blanket throws.
Garden lights.
From weeklydeels4you.
(Can't link sorry )

Not sure if I want to try out the heated blankets right now !

But good delivery service.

bizzey · 15/08/2022 17:09

Iot' s off talk last year about the bonsai Lego kit.

DS mentioned it to me a while ago.

When would be the best time to buy it ?

bizzey · 15/08/2022 17:16

Off to try and find a hiding place already !

HollyGennero · 15/08/2022 17:59

Some Christmas clearance bargains in-person at John Lewis today. As well as the usual cards, tags and wrapping paper they had Georg Jensen tree decorations/ mobiles/ candleholders reduced to between £2.50 and £7 (full prices were £20 to £49). A couple of the ribbons/ insert cards say 2021 on but most don’t. Also 5ft Christmas trees for £40 (not many left) and lots of discounted baubles, wreaths, tree skirts and half-price personalise your own Christmas stockings/ sacks. This was the Trafford Centre branch, they had other stuff like Wedgewood decorations mixed in that had price labels missing but could be worth looking out for.

Oh, the only thing I remember from last years thread was the giraffe toilet roll holders Grin

Irritatedmum · 15/08/2022 18:10

People took advantage of a discount code glitch and basically got loads of stuff for free. I think I remember someone saying she had about £2k worth for basically nothing. People were saying it’s immoral and the person who made the mistake would be fired. It got very heated.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/08/2022 18:26

Yes it was the JL one I was thinking of, but there always seems to be one a year, the hush tights I remember, the cookie jar one, the hamper one.

Iknownothing · 15/08/2022 18:30

Rymans have some Christmas bits in their clearance section including a refillable advent calendar for £2.99 here

RJnomore1 · 15/08/2022 18:47

Right I am looking for:

2 gifts for 2 year olds @ around £10 eac, neighbours little girl and a workmates little boy
A housecoat and possibly a kindle for mil - kindle will wait til Black Friday
a leather biker jacket with no diamond quilting for dd1
anything kpop for dd2 😩
any ideas for dh and dd1 bf.
oh and whisky stones or something for mil bf.

this year I am going to be FOCUSED.

smootholive · 15/08/2022 18:50

Back for my third year but with a nc 😊

For anyone with LO’s interested in in the night garden. I’ve just found the Ninky nonk for £6 at Argos. It’s looks small but perfect for little hands.

JubileeTissues · 15/08/2022 19:11

Hmm, just taken delivery of 2 dark navy blanket hoodies from the other thread. Everyone seems to have got kuddly ones but mine are Primark Hmm

Not returning them now but not the bargain I'd hoped for!

UrbanMage · 15/08/2022 19:14

Crikey, 12 pages already.

These threads are literally the only reason I'm still on MN these days!

2under2howscary · 15/08/2022 19:20

@JubileeTissues I would maybe send them back, I'm sure primarks are cheaper than their prices plus postage.

All mine where kudd.ly so that's a massive shame

TheGriffle · 15/08/2022 19:24

I’ve just managed to get the Lego dots with the voucher, had to go onto other sellers, scrolled down and it had the option on there for the £7.99 money off voucher. I also got 4 of the Melissa and Doug reusable sticker books that were down to £4.50 with 10% off if you bought 4 qualifying items.

UrbanMage · 15/08/2022 19:28

Also, was on my holiday in Cyprus last week and bought a linen tablecloth... But a Christmas one. DH rolled his eyes. It is beautiful though (and all wrapped up and stored in the loft)

Worth a look at Argos 2 for £20 for the 2yos? Some of the items are £18 individually so savings to be had. I’ve ordered the set of Duplo Bath toys which are £18 on their own but included in this deal (think Amazon also price matching on this one)
