And I’ll send them up the chimney.
I’ll start.
Shitloads to do, so dh decides today is the day to sort out “his corner”, looking for a specific cable. Came back from walking the dog to find the lounge in a right state.
I know it will be sorted, but why today?

DH is poorly and hasn't got out of bed today. Can't go to PIL now which I'm fine about, not so fine the kids will all go on their own. Have to avoid getting covid as hospital appointment next week. Proper fed up for other reasons too. Also means I'll have to peel the potatoes which I hate doing.

Minibea · 24/12/2021 16:06

Discovered headlice in DD’s hair this morning Xmas Envy (not envy) so instead of a morning of festive baking I had a mad dash to Boots to buy a lice comb and spent the morning combing her hair through. Truly revolting. I now itch in sympathy and haven't fancied icing the cake and making mince pies in case they’re infested with lice. Irrational I know.

@Mammma91

DP had a positive laterflow last night. Mine was negative. We both done a PCR this morning and won’t have the results for 24-48 hours so we’re isolating. I am absolutely devastated. We have little in for Christmas dinner as we were supposed to be going to my parents. DS age 2 seems absolutely fine and had a negative lateral flow too. But Christmas feels empty this year.
Ah that's shit! Sorry to hear it, but lucky you realised before seeing your parents! Can you order any delivery shopping? So many options now, depending where you live! Or do your parents not live close enough to drop you around some supplies??

Have a goid sulk, then throw yourself into making the most of it, even if it's a tad unconventional! It's be fun with DS x

MerryChristmas21 · 24/12/2021 16:09

@PotatoGoblins

H and I separated last month, but are still living together until January. We agreed that we’d do Christmas together with the DCs, put our happy faces on for their sakes - which I’m fine with. I can compartmentalise pretty well, and let’s face it: it’s Christmas! The whole point of it for me is to spend it having fun with my DCs, and all my grown up problems can wait. Ex-H however, has been walking round with a face like a smacked arse all morning, snapping at the DCs for breathing, and all I want to do is tell him to fuck all the way off to his mums and stop putting a downer on the kids’ day! Hmm
Go for it! Or at least tell him he either sorts himself out for the kids or fucks off elsewhere!
EbonanzaScrooge · 24/12/2021 16:10

DS tested positive 6 days ago so we are all isolating. Was due at my parents tomorrow. Not one member of my huge family have contacted us to ask how he is or if we need anything. If it wasn’t for our lovely neighbour we wouldn’t have anything in the house 🥺 I spent last Xmas running for about for my aunt who had covid and constantly on the phone.

TheCatShatInTheHat · 24/12/2021 16:11

I wrapped in my lunch break today. All (pre made) food ready to go to my parents tomorrow. House clean and washing done.

Just closed my work lap top, have a glass of red in hand while sitting in bed.

Dc at work and not due back till about 8pm.

Hope it all gets a little less crazy for you all Wine

ArabellaScott · 24/12/2021 16:11

@ponkydonkey

Also was told today by the builders next door that they will be working Boxing Day, and all bank holiday

I shouted and swore at them slammed a few doors and they've fucked off now

6 months of this shit

They turned the water off
More swearing ensued and it's ruining my bloody game pie

I'm sorry, I know this isn't fun for you but I have to admit it made me smile. Hope you salvage the pie and the builders stay fucked off for a whole long week.
onedayoranother · 24/12/2021 16:15

My son is coming - I'm driving 50 miles to collect him. So I've been cleaning his room, vacuuming, doing laundry, scrubbed the bathroom. Put all the rubbish out back including bag from litter box. All I have to do now is empty two packed boxes (from our move five months ago!) and vacuum but thought good time to get dogs out - and it immediately started to rain. So not walking dogs, rubbish is getting soaked out back and reluctant to drag wet bags through the house. But my daughter had recovered from her second jab and is helping tidy! I may get there yet.

MerryChristmas21 · 24/12/2021 16:22

@DwightShrutesgirlfriend

The postman has just been and the last chance I had for a Christmas card from my friend of 43 years has passed. She stopped communicating with me a couple of months ago and refuses to tell me why. I thought she might reach out at Christmas. So, whilst my family are telling me she's not a good friend and to forget about her, I'm sitting here feeling sad.
I'm sorry, you must be so upset. How far away does she live? If near enough I'd go & see her after Christmas.

Cards might still arrive though! Pist is delayed in some places due to severe shortages of staff.

I'm sure your family means well xx

Longcovid21 · 24/12/2021 16:24

Men are. Fucking useless. This is the last year I spend Xmas with a man (apart from my children). That is all.

MerryChristmas21 · 24/12/2021 16:24

@Iseeyoulookingatme

My exh is coming to stay tonight so he can spend Christmas day with me and ds. I'm really not looking forward to it and I'm only doing it for ds sake. This is my only grumble this Christmas. As soon as he is gone I shall be straight on the presseco.
Why wait?

While he's there seems like a better option!!

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 24/12/2021 16:25

Okay I've had a swing!
For anyone concerned about my frankenstein gammon I dashed out to tie shops to buy a proper one and they were of course all gone.
However, I was able to pick up an entire game pie for less than £1!! Usually about £20 "!

So I'm very happy.

MerryChristmas21 · 24/12/2021 16:25

@Holothane

Best Christmas present ever my birth certificate turned up means I can now get my lump sum of a pension my plans can start.
Woo hoo!! Santas Elves must have been working hard on sorting that for you!! Enjoy your planning x
MerryChristmas21 · 24/12/2021 16:31

@WeeFae. I am absolutely exhausted & have so much I need to do. However, I'm sending every single scrap of energy I can muster, to you! I know how special this Christmas is to you and I want you to be able to do as much as you want to! Xx

Maybe get DH in the grunt work & you can do the 'making it special/pretty' work?!

WolfhoundsForever · 24/12/2021 16:38

First Christmas without my Dad. We rarely spent it together but would speak. No present, no card, no phone call. Just a huge hole in my heart.

I veer between wanting to do all the prep to keep myself busy, and wanting to dive into a bath with a box of chocolates and emerge on Boxing Day.

Jng1 · 24/12/2021 16:39

We'd all committed , at DH's request, to staying at home now until 27th when we're off to see DH's dad, who is 98.
All good. The Christmas food order came with everything we need. Fridge is stocked up. No need to visit heaving, covid-laden shops. Just the 4 of us for Xmas.

Then this afternoon DH takes himself off to town for a 'walk' and comes back with bag loads of yellow label bargains from M&S food, including a 'family takeaway' meal for tonight.
I point out that there is no room in the fridge and tonight's meal is already in the oven so now's he's sulking and suggesting I'm 'ungrateful' for the bargains which we don't need.
Now not-yet-boosted DS2 has gone to the pub with friends as "since Dad has gone out, no reason why he can't too" Hmm

WolfhoundsForever · 24/12/2021 16:40

That went too soon. I wanted to add that fortunately I have a lovely family, we are in great health, and we are having a peaceful holiday. They are particularly good when I forget about the good stuff and snap their heads off.

WhenwillIlearntoadult · 24/12/2021 16:40

@TheChristmasElephant

Thank you. I hope you have a lovely Christmas xx

MerryChristmas21 · 24/12/2021 16:40

@littlemissminor

Small in comparison but it's hammering down here and me + 2 small DC need to go out to pick up my prescription. Just gone to put them in the car to discover DP has taken my car to work as he didn't fancy getting diesel last night... but my car HAS THE CARSEATS for the kids, so now I have to walk in the rain
Time for a new patio!!

Inconsiderate TWAT

AngelinaFibres · 24/12/2021 16:43

@ShinyHappyPoster

My parent died at the start of this month and I wanted to go to the cemetery today but I have this awful cold, breathless, dizzy bug and accidentally fell asleep and now it's too late to go. And it is just a minor whinge because I know they wouldn't care. I just feel exhausted.
They aren't there, that's just the shell they don't need anymore FlowersFlowersFlowers If you have thought of them today I like to think they will know. I like to think of heaven (which I don't suppose I really believe in ...but it would be nice) having the same system as the Ring go doorbell that makes a noise everytime someone walks past. In heaven the same noise happens for your loved one when you have thought of them. Cobblers I know but it helps me. Look after yourself the first of everything is always hard.
Florabritannica · 24/12/2021 16:44

Just no interest in any of it. All seems work - decorations that will have to be taken down again and that nobody notices anyway, food that will end up in the bin, wrapping ditto. Complete lack a f engagement from family and total absence of Christmas magic or atmosphere or tingle. House full of shit that will stay there until next Christmas when I take it to the charity shop to make way for another Christmas’ shit.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 24/12/2021 16:44

We've come out of isolation today, and had a mad trip to the supermarket as most of the items on our online shop were missing or badly substituted. The house is a tip, I don't know who I've bought for and who I haven't. We were all quite poorly with Covid, didn't hear a word from my Mum but she managed to crochet a huge scarf for my sister (we're NC) who put it on FB and said what an amazing Mum she has. I nearly wrote OH DO FUCK OFF under it but resisted. And my Dad has phoned me about 15 times a day about his Bulb account and not understanding that he pays in advance so because he got his winter home payment of £140 he can't have his contributions back again. Also not helped by the wine he's drinking when he's not supposed to have alcohol with his medication.

My NY resolution is to go minimal contact with anyone who makes me feel stressed. Which is essentially 98% of my fucking family.

Happy Christmas to all Xmas Smile

Florabritannica · 24/12/2021 16:46

@SpanielsAreMyLife You have cheered me up. I thought my family was dysfunctional.

YnysMonCrone · 24/12/2021 16:48

I've made pumpkin soup for lunch today and the blender exploded it all over the kitchen. There is liquidised pumpkin literally EVERYWHERE in my kitchen. DH is a knobhead.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/12/2021 16:48

So, sellotape gate. Every bastard year I pack all the wrapping shite away in a special bag. Every bastard year there is no sellotape. (When Dh is wrapping) ds just dashed to shop to get some and then says, what’s that on the coffee table?
Oh and ds1 (who between his Asd and being an idle twat struggles to keep a job and is already on last warning from current job for sickness), hasn’t been in work this week because of vaccination side effects. Well that’s him sacked in new year.
