And I’ll send them up the chimney.
I’ll start.
Shitloads to do, so dh decides today is the day to sort out “his corner”, looking for a specific cable. Came back from walking the dog to find the lounge in a right state.
I know it will be sorted, but why today?

PILs arrived 6 hours early 😩
Did they explain themselves? WHO does that at Xmas?
Benjispruce5 · 24/12/2021 16:49

Now watching It’s a Wonderful Life. Always very grounding and saves men from Grinching.

@SingToTheSleigh

Mine is that I have labyrinthitis. So every time I so much as move my head the room spins. Merry Christmas indeed Hmm

DD1 also broke her wrist on Saturday so we aren’t terribly festive here!

Oh no that is the absolute worst!!! I have nerve damage in my inner ear so get a lovely two week vertigo session 3 or 4 times a year. Thankfully never at Christmas though!!

Hope it clears up soon!!

mamabear715 · 24/12/2021 16:59

HUGS to all.. am just wondering though whether there should be some kind of Christmas creche for husbands & partners.. I swear things go more smoothly without them!
(Mine was lovely, but reading some of these posts.. eek!)

DS18 (& ‘challenging’ - no joke!) just threw a fit because I had bought spiced rum for him. He hates rum, I should know that, I am all sorts of awful etc etc. Demanded Malibu at some length. Stupid Mum quietly (later) went to the supermarket, no Malibu left, got an alternative (cheap) option. Got home & realised - too late - that both Malibu & the cheap alternative are rum based, so he does drink rum and Why Do I Actually Bother?!?!

@YnysMonCrone

I've made pumpkin soup for lunch today and the blender exploded it all over the kitchen. There is liquidised pumpkin literally EVERYWHERE in my kitchen. DH is a knobhead.
I made carrot and swede mash one year. Forgot to put the lid on the blender thing. Fired it onto very high kitchen ceiling. Must be 5 years ago at least. Only got it off properly this year when I repainted kitchen SmileSmileSmile
Willowkins · 24/12/2021 17:04

Two neighbours have dropped off Christmas treats this evening. I feel guilty because I haven't even done cards for the neighbours this year. Will they notice/care?

SlipperTripper · 24/12/2021 17:04

Have cleaned (hands and knees floor scrubbing jobs, guaranteed to piss me off before I start) since 9am this morning, and asked someone, anyone, to Hoover upstairs.

DSD16 did it, but didn't do the stairs as she 'didn't feel like the challenge' - just did the 4ft by 4ft hall instead. So, at 4.15pm, with guests arriving at 5pm, I'm hoovering, dizzy and achy (am 6months pregnant), and managed to drop the Hoover from step above, smack myself in the chops and spilt my lip.

To add insult to injury, she and her sister have used all the hot fucking water! So have just had a cold shower and now I'm REALLY pissed off.

Can't even have a baileys and a lump of Brie to ease the pain 😠

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 24/12/2021 17:07

My dishwasher has decided to break.

QueenAnne · 24/12/2021 17:09

My husband is meant to be doing dinner tonight. He has produced a cake. A cake only.

PILs arrived 6 hours early 😩
My MIL was always bloody late. She lived a 25 min drive away so we’d ask her to arrive at 10 to watch DC open presents, etc, so naturally she’d turn up at 12. DH would insist that we had to wait for present opening so by the time she arrived I was busy in the kitchen prepping lunch and would miss out on most of the present opening.

Then there was the time she offered to make a trifle for pudding. She turned up (late, naturally) with the INGREDIENTS for a trifle and huffed and puffed that there was no available space in the kitchen for her to make it as I was mid-lunch prep and every available surface taken.

I miss her, but not her time-keeping!

Proudplantowner · 24/12/2021 17:29

My partner has this weekend off and that's it. We are apart for Christmas day anyway, which is fine, but it feels like he prioritises his colleagues getting time off and gets none himself. We rarely get time together and I've felt really down today.

babouchette · 24/12/2021 17:33

I've just been upstairs and went into the guest bedroom to put towels in there for PIL. My MIL has laid out my FIL's pyjamas on the bed, along with a special blanket they've brought from home for him, the precious petal.

They have also turned up with ready meals for both of them for this evening (just for them), although we'd agreed we would get a Chinese takeaway.

Give me strength.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 24/12/2021 17:33

I am a Christmas grinch. We’re hosting tomorrow for Dh’s family, which will be another 9 adults and various teenagers. I hate hosting, the stress levels, the extra cleaning, finding the emergency chairs, there’s not enough room, I’ve got loads of wrapping still to do this eve, my head hurts and I’ve spent most of the day in tears (first Xmas since my darling brother died suddenly in June). DH only finished work yesterday, and have struggled to get through this week and try and prepare stuff. If it wasn’t for the kids I would hide in bed all day and let it all go on without me.

Ugh ... I've only had 1 experience with labrynthitis and that was more than enough.Confused

Hope it wears off quickly for you (and doesn't impact on CD too much)

Bella1329 · 24/12/2021 17:37

26 weeks pregnant, craving allll the cheese, wine and baileys! Basically I'm just hormonal and resenting others having a good time 😂

Jinglemychristmasbells · 24/12/2021 17:37

@SingToTheSleigh

Oh, and we left it too late to buy any Christmas crackers, so now we don’t have any. Disaster!!!

May be able to get some cheap after (we are just us tomorrow but have family/friends round during the next week) but apparently they’ve already got rid of Christmas stock in various shops. I suppose there will be Easter eggs in their place by new year

Omg we are crackerless too totally slipped my mind . I blame it on having a baby 7 weeks ago
2catsandhappy · 24/12/2021 17:41

@ExplodingCarrots What happened? Did they turn up?

Theunamedcat · 24/12/2021 17:55

roarfeckingroarr · 24/12/2021 18:04

I have my first hangover of 2021 today after introducing my wonderful new chap to my wonderful father and everyone having a brilliant night.

I feel fine now but until 1pm it was touch and go

SunshineCake1 · 24/12/2021 18:08

Asked dd to make tea with ds1. Party food, her choice, put it in the oven. Apparently too difficult. Sat at the table. Ate half a cheese nacho. Wants to go back to uni on the 26th now. Doesn't want to be here. I'm so fed up. Running around doing so much to give a nice Christmas. Just want to cry.

Chocoqueen · 24/12/2021 18:10

It's DD's first Christmas, we decided to go for a Christmassy walk to look at the lights. It rained. A LOT. And the lights were pants. At least she didn't cry I suppose....

herecomesthsun · 24/12/2021 18:11

Re crackers- you could order some in Lakeland sale www.lakeland.co.uk/christmas/christmas-entertaining/christmas-crackers/

or say that you aren't having any because of The Planet and do party games for prizes instead?

Chocoqueen · 24/12/2021 18:12

Oh, that's a lovely thought.

Or go all PFB and say you didn't get any because the bangs will upset the baby
