And I’ll send them up the chimney.
I’ll start.
Shitloads to do, so dh decides today is the day to sort out “his corner”, looking for a specific cable. Came back from walking the dog to find the lounge in a right state.
I know it will be sorted, but why today?

@SingToTheSleigh

Mine is that I have labyrinthitis. So every time I so much as move my head the room spins. Merry Christmas indeed Hmm

DD1 also broke her wrist on Saturday so we aren’t terribly festive here!

Sorry to hear this, labyrinthitis is horrendous, you have probably already tried this but do you have any car sickness tablets? I found they helped when I had the same. I couldn’t even bend over to put shoes on without nearly falling over or puking.
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/12/2021 11:16

Hope you're all having better Christmases than you expected to.
Our started with a swing - MIL phoned and refused to come over because DH's shite brother threw a massive mantrum when he found out she was coming here (she comes here every single year on Christmas Day) and told him that "he's not welcome". (He's not, many reasons).
So she didn't come at all. Didn't see her grandkids because of her giant manbaby who threw a strop (he's single, no kids and nearly 50)

MiniPumpkin · 25/12/2021 11:22

Been up with baby since 5am, first world and totally ungrateful problems but unwrapping the kids presents took so long, dd even gave up 🤣 spent so long trying to clear the war zone, mother in law says it’s a ‘riot’.. indeed!

Madcats · 25/12/2021 11:29

Update: after a calm and pleasant breakfast DH is now disgorging the contents of the tarsus-like cupboard under the stairs in the hunt for some picture wire.

And the first thing Alexa chose to play me in the kitchen was "Last Christmas".

AsTreesWalking · 25/12/2021 12:05

Arrgh. Stood up under the lintel of the cupboard under the stairs, saw stars. Not Christmassy ones...

SingToTheSleigh · 25/12/2021 12:09

Merry Christmas all!
Thank you @FayKnights I have been prescribed some anti sickness stuff. Not sure they’ve made a difference yet but I’m hopeful! Fell over last night and again this morning but very glad I’m not being sick with it as I really panic about puke😳

On the plus side my lovely friend picked us up a pack of Christmas crackers yesterday so we have enough for lunch today!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/12/2021 13:27

I decided I would channel Nigella and make brandy snaps for a buffet tomorrow to impress DM even though that has never happened yet. It was only when they were on the tray ready to go in the oven, and I thought I'll have some lemon in my tonic that I realised the recipe included lemon juice.... Cue me scraping the mix off a silicon baking sheet, and adding said lemon. They taste nice now they're cooked, but look very err....hangover day at Kipling cakes maybe Xmas Grin. Meh. Next year they get bought Xmas Grin

dementedma · 25/12/2021 14:10

Still waiting for dh to get in from work so we can do presents! Doesnt feel remotely like Christmas yet.

G123454321 · 25/12/2021 14:58

Sat at home bored in isolation. No presents as they’re all at my parents where we were meant to be.

Xmas dinner being left on the doorstep by parents who are also on their own as sister won’t go near them where they’ve been in contact with us picking up our Xmas presents yesterday.

Hubby on his laptop and I’m debating cleaning the fridge for some effing festive fun. FFS 😡

velvetvixen · 25/12/2021 15:15

I got mint sauce in my eye.

VanillaAndOrange · 25/12/2021 15:54

Just a small moan and I have a lot to be thankful for, but...

When you're not religious, don't drink all that much and there are no young children in the family, let's face it, one of the most interesting things about Christmas Day is opening your presents. There's just me, DH and (adult) DC1 here today, (adult) DC2 is working away. DH went out for an early run (nothing wrong with that in itself) and I said "when you come back let's wake up DC1 and we can open our presents together." He came back, faffed on the internet for a good 15 minutes and then said he would go and have a shower next, but then spent about half an hour "moving washing around". Meanwhile I woke up DC1 (who is a night owl) with coffee and a croissant and said I thought we would be ready in about 15 minutes. I went and sat in the sitting room and put the Christmas tree lights on and it's like herding bloody cats! One or other of them would stick their head round the door, see that the other one wasn't there and then bugger off again, so we finally sat down at about 12. And I couldn't really say anything because it looks materialistic, but to me it wasn't about the value of the presents, it was about the fun of the surprises.

They were actually quite nice presents when the faffing stopped, lunch turned out well, and it's even looking less rainy right now so I might get to go out for a walk. But the one thing that ought to be fun to do together, it seems nobody else but me can be bothered with.

MrsBaublesDylan · 25/12/2021 19:54

I've just had the kind of Christmas I dreamed of as a child.

And it was a bit boring.

Fmesanta · 25/12/2021 20:50

@MrsBaublesDylan

And it was a bit boring.

What kind is that
Benjispruce5 · 25/12/2021 22:46

Absolute exhausted. Guests just left. Dinner was best yet and low stress due to lots of prep yesterday and MIL making a pud. I just find being ‘on’ and hosting for 10 hrs straight, absolutely draining. Looking forward to my bed.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 26/12/2021 09:28

First year of my youngest not believing. She burst into tears this morning and said yesterday wasn't christmassy enough. Feeling a bit sad now.

Benjispruce5 · 26/12/2021 16:03

Ah @SpookyScarySkeletons it’s horrible when the magic goes for them. Next year will be best hopefully as she’ll have more realistic expectations. Christmas is too hyped these days.
