Every Christmas I fall into the panettone trap

Does anyone ever actually eat it?

Every year I fall for the pretty box and every year it gets left.

Panettone is right up there with sugared almonds.

So-called Christmas treats that are actually nasty.

Gretaburley · 24/12/2021 06:03

My dh loves panettone.
Sometimes I make an orange sauce and pour it over warm panettone.

Dillydollydingdong · 24/12/2021 06:05

Bread and butter pudding? Grin

Tayegete · 24/12/2021 06:12

Ooh really helpful thread! I’ve just been given some as a present and wasn’t sure what to do with it. Toasted sounds great.

Tillyvonpantsalo · 24/12/2021 06:13

I love the marks chocolate one. Toast it, make bread and butter pudding, put it in a trifle, dunk it in coffee. Delicious!

dundydee · 24/12/2021 06:14

I love the box & the idea but dislike it so have stopped buying it. Don't get the love for it!

borntobequiet · 24/12/2021 06:17

I really like it. It’s particularly nice with a cup of black Earl Grey tea. I don’t understand eating it with any additions or making it into a pudding. I buy two, one for Christmas and one to be kept for Easter.

ProperVexed · 24/12/2021 06:17

Food of the Gods! I love it!

Pennybubbly · 24/12/2021 06:17

I fucking love panettone.
Currently have a huge chocolate one, as well as a traditional one and a mini chocolate & orange one.
Cake. Chocolate. What's not to love?

Food of the Gods! I love it!

I read that in Italy there’s a panettone sold for every member of the population!
Our family total so far is 0. So somebody else has been pigging out on three extra panettoni…
But I do think of it as a lighter version of our Christmas cake. You have the spices, the candied peel and the dried fruit. It’s just more bready and goes stale faster.
I once set a microwave on fire when I left some slices of panettone under the grill. There’s a lot of butter in the dough. I turned my back and next thing I knew there were flames coming out of the sides!
Shock

Wishing I'd bought a panettone this year so I could make this. It looks delicious and I have lemons that need using:

I love it! Not as desert though - we usually have some as a snacky breakfast or snack. DD is obsessed with it.

dundydee · 24/12/2021 06:28

I also hate christmas cake, christmas pudding & mince pies. Bad time of year for me deserts wise!

Jumpingintochristmas · 24/12/2021 06:31

Genuinely my favourite festive treat!

ChubbyNinja · 24/12/2021 06:33

toasted with mascarpone

Winter2020 · 24/12/2021 06:36

I ate mine for breakfast with butter and jam

dundydee · 24/12/2021 06:36

desserts obvs! 😆

Wrongkindofovercoat · 24/12/2021 06:39

Like Nigel's idea of using it to make a lemony trifle, think I might have some limoncello at the back of the cupboard, to make it boozy.

IcedAbstinente · 24/12/2021 06:43

I saw Jamie Oliver yesterday (he was on the tv not inside my house sadly) make a banana chocolate pudding with one. It looked so amazing it has tempted me to buy one.

Beautiful3 · 24/12/2021 06:52

I feel better about not buying one this year, it always gets left, until January.

CherryMaple · 24/12/2021 06:54

Love Panettone. We have been eating it since November, and I bought two more yesterday - limoncello and fruits of the forest. Never tried those before. The kids eat it plain in wedges for breakfast - they prefer chocolate chip. I will be eating it for breakfast tomorrow spread with mascarpone them topped with grated dark chocolate. I look forward to panettone all year 😁

Lulu1919 · 24/12/2021 06:55

Toast it

Havehope21 · 24/12/2021 07:05

it is delicious in bread and butter pudding or dipped in hot chocolate

BatshitCrazyWoman · 24/12/2021 07:09

I absolutely love it! Don't spoil it with cream, though 🤢
