How much has your food shop come to?

I’ve been out this morning. Did my whole shop in Booths, which is rare as it can be over priced… but it was quiet, compared to Aldi down the road! So I paid for less stress.

For 4 of us, 2 adults 2 kids under 13 it has cost me £162 for at least 3 days worth of meals, puddings, snacks and drinks.

I was thinking I’d done quite well!! But not I see it written down 🙈🙈

How are you guys getting on?

16 adults and 4 children for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
I am so intruiged by the logistics, never had a big Christmas, I'm from just a small family! How big is your oven/how do you do all the food on Christmas DAY are you utilising slow cookers etc?
Are people helping by bringing some cooked dishes around each day?

Waitrose order about £150 more than normal but the order is also for 4 extra days
Butcher and greengrocer £100
Alcohol not included as we bought it in October 😂
This is for 3 adults and 1 child.

Not too bad, all in all.

AngelsEyeball · 23/12/2021 15:08

Turkey £5 (Lidl) all veg came to £1 (20p bags Asda) potatoes had in fridge already. Amazon stress shop £10 free for new shoppers so got chocolates etc for Xmas. Xmas crackers £5 Asda. Quality street £3.50
Sticky toffee pudding and cream for pudding £4.25
All done and dusted for around £20 for 2 adults and a preteen. Bloody brilliant.

onemouseplace · 23/12/2021 15:11

Today's Sainsbury's shop came to £170. Meat order was £140. Cheese £60. That was Christmas for 10, now Christmas for 5 but half the stuff was ordered already. More booze on top, and we're bought a few bits and pieces in the run up.

traintraveller · 23/12/2021 15:13

£130 in aldi
£75 in cheese shop
DH away to collect the butcher meat just now and I've decided we don't have enough wine so he'll get more on the way back.

NalPolishRemover · 23/12/2021 15:13

2 adults & 1 teen & we spent €233 In aldi & €35 In M&S

Some alcohol bought seperately too which isn't counted in that.

That will last us from now till about 28th..It's a lot really but we do have lots of lovely food & drink now

00100001 · 23/12/2021 15:13

For thrn3 days, around £60? 3 adults

Bohemond · 23/12/2021 15:16

£600 give or take. Family of three a week ago, but I don't intend to visit the shops other than the local greengrocer until well into the New Year. We always run the (three) freezers down in January Grin.

freetorunwild · 23/12/2021 15:17

Mine was just over £100 for 2 adults and 2 children but only because my partners job had 20% off for staff.

Hoppinggreen · 23/12/2021 15:21

Ocado coming tomorrow and it’s around £200 I think.
Not sure what’s in it though as we are going out for xmas dinner

CruellaDeVilla · 23/12/2021 15:24

£550 Ocado
£130 butcher
£300 Waitrose cellar booze

Adelais · 23/12/2021 15:26

£125 from Aldi. We are going to parents Christmas Day so that doesn’t include Christmas dinner but we are hosting Boxing Day for 9 adults and 2 kids.

alphabetsoup1980 · 23/12/2021 15:28

I hate it when that happens 😒

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 23/12/2021 15:31

About £200 for 3 of us (me, my dad and DD) spent between the butcher, Asda and Sainsbury’s.

Lots of chocolate, sweets, biscuits and savoury snacks.

Party food stuff for Boxing Day onwards.

Turkey, Black Pudding, Bacon and Pigs in Blankets from Butcher..

All other Christmas Day food, plus puddings, ice cream, custard...

Red wine, Baileys and crates of beer (we're not massive drinkers so will probably still be there in 6 months time Grin)

Plus 'adult' drinks for 6yo; J20, Appletiser, Sprite..
And soft drinks for us...

I've bought way too much for the 3 of us but it'll do for ages now!Xmas Grin

loudbatperson · 23/12/2021 15:35

Way too much!

Big fresh shop came too £260, which was only fresh food, not non perishables, alcohol, soft drinks or frozen bits.

I am not sure exactly how much in total, but certainly spent a few hundred on the non fresh food and drinks.

That covers 22nd, 24th & 26th. We are going out for dinner tonight and order a curry for Boxing Day.

It is an obscene amount really, however we do buy high welfare and from small suppliers for much of it, which ups the cost but it is worth it to us (and we are aware and appreciative of how fortunate we are to be able to make these choices, not that many years ago we were in a very different position).

LittleRoundRobin · 23/12/2021 15:38

Hard to say, as we shop in dribs and drabs. From 5 different shops: Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Iceland, and Asda. (Around a third from Morrisons, a third from Aldi, and the other third from the other 3 shops combined.)

But I reckon we have spent an extra £120 this month including booze. Only me and DH live at home though. And we have very few visitors. Prefer to meet people out (pub lunch/coffee etc..) We have a little buffet for our 2 adult DC and their partners, (circa 18-20 December,) and give snacks and nibbles to visitors. (Usually get 3 or 4 in late December pre covid.)

Iceskatequeen · 23/12/2021 15:39

£160 from Sainsbury's.

That doesn't include the Turkey and dhs booze.

There is a box of crackers and two bottles of cava and a few toiletries.

It's really only about 3 days worth of food.

MrsBerthaRochester · 23/12/2021 15:39

We were also very kindly gifted a £50 Aldi voucher from dcs school(we are a low income family) and a friend who had a bit of good fortune gave us £50.
Would usually spend £100 tops so feeling very spoiled this year.

FairyBrights · 23/12/2021 15:40

To any of the big spenders on cheese, I am very jealousfree on the 25th if you need help eating your cheese boards Xmas Grin

wanttomarryamillionaire · 23/12/2021 15:41

4 adults and a baby £340 from Waitrose and Tesco.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 23/12/2021 15:42

Oh and what is Booths? I've never heard of them!

DENMAN03 · 23/12/2021 15:46

I have just spent £370 in M&S on food and another £350 in Majestic on the booze. Have 11 over for Christmas.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 23/12/2021 15:47

I did a Booths shop which came to about £150. Booths is a northern fairly posh small chain of supermarkets. It is full of locally sourced products and the staff are really nice. Its a bit expensive for an every week shop, but if you need 'owt fancy, you can always get it at Booths.

MsWalterMitty · 23/12/2021 15:49

@Bagelsandbrie

I’m embarrassed about ours. There’s 4 of us and I’ve spent about £300 - no alcohol as we are tee total. Basically just a lot of very nice food and treat stuff. I have made a hefty donation to the local food bank as I actually feel quite guilty. Blush
I wouldn’t feel embarrassed. I’ve purposely gone for the naice stuff as it’s Christmas and wouldn’t usually
