Despite starting thinking about Christmas in August(!) this year, I'm still running behind on most things. So I thought I'd start a thread of what people have left to do maybe to act as a prompt for me to actually do these things!

On my list:

  1. Buy write and send cards
  2. Sort nursery / school / cleaner gifts
  3. Finish wrapping
  4. Buy something for a family friend I feel obliged to but is difficult to buy for so I put it off every year
  5. Tidy the whole house - or at least start hiding stuff in cupboards
  6. Meal plan and finalise online shop
  7. Food bank

... and finish stuff off at work!

I'm sure there is more stuff!

Anyone else feel like they are running out of time?

Yup me!
I need to:

  1. buy last few bits. At the moment MIL has nothing to open!
  2. marzipan and ice the christmas cake
  3. bake mince pies
  4. tidy up before DM arrives next week
  5. take box of biscuits to nursery
  6. wrap the rest of the presents (I'm about half way there)
  7. do the main food shop
  8. beautify self before Christmas do on Thursday
DollyPartBaked · 14/12/2021 19:28

Adding beautify self to the list!

I need to go to Aldi to get some brioche for my dads bread and butter pudding and I need to write cards for the neighbours. Other than that I’m pretty much done.

TuftyMarmoset · 14/12/2021 20:44

I’m currently writing cards having noticed the last posting date to Canada was yesterday 😬
I also haven’t wrapped anything or baked anything… I always have such intentions for poncing which always fall by the wayside. To be fair on the baking front I haven’t got a properly functioning oven atm, that’s coming in a few days!
Need to get Schloer as well 😋

GettingStuffed · 14/12/2021 20:51

Write cards
Marzipan and ice cake
Make mince pies
Make stollen
Wrap remaining presents
Finalise menu with DH and do our Tesco order
Get DS1 present. He already has some but needs another big present.
I think that's it, but I'm away this weekend and have to go and see my in-laws one day next week and we have a lidl shop planned for another (meeting up with relatives too)

Roystonv · 14/12/2021 20:58

Get local cards delivered, make and freeze breadsauce, make parmesan sables, salt almonds, put up tree, finish wrapping presents, do floral table decoration, finalise shopping delivery, final in person perishable shop. Will fit in ok but running later than expected

InTheCludgie · 14/12/2021 21:03

Got the last of my presents today!

Just have to wrap them, finish writing a few cards and post, persuade my nearly 7 year old to write more cards for her school friends, buy cheese and crackers plus dessert for Xmas day and I'm done.

blablablafoghorn · 14/12/2021 21:09

Sniff glue, try to not buy anything tacky according to mumsnet although I do every year !!🤣 make handmade cards, make shortbread & homemade sanitary towels. Buy everything from Waitrose &'tell everyone I buy everything from Waitrose 🤔

TheCreamCaker · 14/12/2021 21:18

I didn't do anything at all until a week ago. Got all the cards, posted some, got neighbours' to put through doors tomorrow. Everyone's presents bought and wrapped. Tree and decorations are up.

Just food to get, nearer the time. I don't bake or make anything - sod that, anyway, I'm recovering from a stroke, so nobody will expect it.

sociallydistained · 14/12/2021 21:27

Just did all my wrapping and I feel so glad! This year I’ve cut right back because I’m due on maternity leave soon and needed to really think about finances! I also have not written one card, not sending them this year.
Having Christmas dinner at my Nans so have bought a few bits for that but don’t need to do anything.

All I have to do is drop off some gifts to niece and nephew and parents which I’m doing on days next week.

I am pregnant with my first so I guess next year will be my first proper Christmas as an adult in charge of a child’s Christmas but again I’m not too worried about that until they understand a bit more 🙈

emmathedilemma · 14/12/2021 21:32

Most things!
I just need to get through the next couple of days of work and then I can think about Xmas!

CoffeeRunner · 14/12/2021 21:33

  1. Finish wrapping.
  2. Make a list for final food shop.
  3. Do final food shop.

Not bad for me actually Grin.

Quornflakegirl · 14/12/2021 21:39

I still need to wrap stocking fillers for my 2 dc and unpack the Christmas shop arriving on the 23rd. Pretty pleased with mused actually.

harveythehorse · 14/12/2021 21:39

Most presents are bought but there area few bits left to buy and I have to make labels for the homemade marmalade I've made to gift to friends. Also need to wrap everything, crawl to the end of term remembering the various Christmas gifts, outfit changes and as the Year Rep, I need to also organise the teacher gifts from the year. There are two parties to plan as well as a big post office run. Most food is ordered and I am awaiting two big deliveries (butcher and Ocado) but will need to do a top up shop and go to the farm shop for vegetables. Phew. Will be glad when it's Christmas Day and as my mother used to say "if we don't have it now then it's too late and we'll be quite happy without it!"

Unsure33 · 14/12/2021 21:41

Loads and now I am laid up sick .

And Saturday is visit care home day so only Sunday to do loads of stuff. Given up on cards
Tree to put.up
Wrap presents
Food shopping just missed a slot because I was ill so have to do that when better .

Way behind and feeling awful 😣

herestoyoucolinrobinson · 14/12/2021 21:44

Well I've bought the presents and have my delivery slot. So everything else 🙈.

WildStallyn · 14/12/2021 21:44

Write and post cards
Post gift to God children
Wrap last few things
Organise printing and framing of pic of DD for my parents
Finalise online grocery order for next week
Dye hair and persuade DH to trim it

I think that's it. We're away for Christmas so not too much to do.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 14/12/2021 21:46

Write and post cards.
Buy empty crackers to fill myself.
That’s all. I got organised early this year.

dudsville · 14/12/2021 21:46

Nothing! All being well we'll have a festive meal on Saturday to kick things off, and another thread on here reminded me of last year's first ever "left over pie". We had so much food because everytime got canceled, but this was a delicious treat so I will make it again!

mumontherun14 · 14/12/2021 21:58

Post cards tommorow, get vouchers and post to my neices, start the wrapping, then give presents out, got food all ordered but will need to collect on 23rd plus prob need a small fresh shop on xmas eve. Couple more small bits to buy for DS and DD stockings/christmas eve boxes but mainly done i think. Buy crackers and bits to take to Dsis house on xmas day x

MrsTimRiggins · 14/12/2021 22:26

Fucking everything 😂
Buy presents, put up decorations, the lot. Im blaming our newborn!!
Pray for me 😭

AdoraBell · 14/12/2021 22:34

Wrap presents and collect Christmas food from the store and send cards. I’m not making anything this year as we moved house last Thursday 🤦‍♀️

AdoraBell · 14/12/2021 22:37

Yeesh, a newborn just before Christmas, you have my sympathy and congratulations 💐

Midlifemission · 14/12/2021 22:45

Oh good I was a bit scared to read this in case it would make me panic !
I am still shopping but got most of it covered.
It's the wrapping I am in denial about - absolutely hate it !

Largethighsbadeyes · 14/12/2021 22:53
  1. Wrap everything
  2. Write and send cards
  3. Clean bathrooms (OH said he would do it last weekend but it looks like I will have to do it)
  4. Persuade OH to buy emergency Xmas Dinner supplies in case in laws are positive/isolating so we can't go to theirs as planned
  5. Buy a present for my new niece who had the audacity to be born a few days ago Grin
