I love cheese - it’s a real indulgence at Christmas. I like to get a few different sorts in and always try something new. What are your favourites and recommendations that I can look out for this year?

Redsquirrel5 · 02/12/2021 23:39

PS. Buy some Peter’s Yard sourdough biscuits mmmmmm!
Enjoy.
I can manage a little sheep’s cheese.

Stinking Bishop
Brie de Meaux
Stilton
St Giles (from the High Weald Dairy in Sussex)
Epoisses
Lime and Chilli Cheddar from The Great British Cheese Company
Gorgonzola dolce
Ardrahan
Emmental
Gruyere

I like cheese.

Neufchatel, delicious balance between creamy, mushroomy, chalky middle, then gets more ripe and less chalky the longer it's left

ISpyCobraKai · 03/12/2021 00:03

Yes.
Crackers/biscuits, sure, I just buy a selection.
Mainly cheese though.
I can't even choose a favourite.

Fen Farm Dairy's Baron Bigod . Even better is the truffled version .

DH bought me a kilo of it as a Christmas present last year . It didn't last till January ... Grin

As mild as possible so mozzarella or Edam. I'm also partial to a bit a lot Of Wensleydale with stem ginger or Wensleydale with cranberries.

Christmas1988 · 03/12/2021 09:36

Stilton with apricots
Wensleydale with cranberries

I do like Brie best of all if it’s on a panini

santaclawzz · 03/12/2021 09:48

Red Leicester has my heart

ThinWomansBrain · 03/12/2021 10:21

Initiating sex with cheese [Grin]
If you're not in to Stinking Bishops, just have a shower first.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/12/2021 10:25

Epoisses - it's devine

It's around all year now, but used to be just a Christmas thing - Wensleydale with Cranberries in.
Now that it's in the shops all year round, I probably have it less.

Had a baked camenbert that was a starter in a Tesco meal deal last week - with Chunky Chips - amazing.

LindaEllen · 03/12/2021 10:42

I'm the most boring person in the world. I hate strong cheese, but I could eat Edam on Tuc crackers all day.

canihaveacoffeeplease · 03/12/2021 10:45

I am surprised no one has mentioned Vacherin...so utterly gooey and perfect and stinky matured in it's wooden box that it has to be scooped out with a spoon...I don't live in the UK anymore but buying the first Vacherin of the year from V&C in Edinburgh for Christmas is such a bloody happy memory. Almost as good as the eating Grin. Haven't been able to get a proper Vacherin since moving abroad, but hey, there's huge advantages living here too! And great cheese too...

Lemonlemon88 · 03/12/2021 10:48

Maasdam
A good blue
A runny brie

waterlego · 03/12/2021 10:49

Port Salut. Roquefort. St Agur. And goats’ cheese!

Also, you really can’t go wrong with a super strong cheddar, so strong it’s got those crystals in it. Like Colliers Welsh cheddar.

All of the above served with cornichons. There must always be cornichons.

cultkid · 03/12/2021 10:54

Mimolette

Aged Jarlsberg

Pave daffinois

cultkid · 03/12/2021 10:57

Oh yes Vacherin too

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/12/2021 11:05

Whatever happened to the Dairylea Cocktail selection?

Six different flavoured, heavily processed 'cheese' triangles, wrapped in tin foil that was virtually impossible to remove completely?

We used to get it at Christmas, we thought we were quite posh!

Rainbowshit · 03/12/2021 11:44

a ginger and mango cheese that Booths sell.

St Agur

Epoisses

have never had Vacherin, but it soudns right up my street, so will need to try and get hold of some!

dottiedodah · 03/12/2021 13:28
