Mines got to be Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Frank Sinatra, but the modern versions (Buble, Sam Smith Et al) are also grand.

This song just instantly puts me in the Christmas mood. Hot chocolates, stockings hanging from the fireplace, cosy jumpers, frost on the windows, love and laughter Smile

The others I love are It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas, Merry Christmas Everyone. and Silent Night (ok that's a carol, but same thing).

OP posts:

I forgot "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" to the tune of The House of the Rising Sun. Also by Bob Rivers.

It's taken me until a few minutes ago to figure out that the Christmassy tune I hear in the background of ads and trailers for Christmas specials is Carol of the Bells. Love it.

Great thread, I'll make myself a new Christmas playlist tomorrow!

kittenkipper · 22/11/2021 20:49

Carols are my favourite. Silent night will play at my funeral come Sun or Snow. Torches is another.
Songs- driving home for Christmas

"When we're together" from Olaf's Frozen Adventure

I can totally leave Frozen. But that song is the Christmas nail on the head for me. Rarely can I sing it with DC without crying.

elp30 · 22/11/2021 20:51

Definitely José Feliciano's, "Feliz Navidad"

OddBoots · 22/11/2021 20:52

Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)

Must Be Santa - Bob Dylan
Sleigh Ride - Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Completely agree with your number one, OP, and also your others!

I'm genuinely surprised that nobody has said I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas yet. I had never jeardof until 6 years ago on this website on a thread just like this one, it's the first song I seek out every year and my little boy loves it too. This is a lovely thread :)

lollipoprainbow · 22/11/2021 21:10

Fairy tale of New York
Last Christmas
Driving home for Christmas
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
In dulci jubilo Mike oldfield
Do they know it's Christmas
In the bleak midwinter
John Rutter Carols are lovely too

MattDillonsEyebrows · 22/11/2021 21:15

Oooh so many! I've had to do a top ten, in no particular order:

Christmas in Hollis - Run DMC
Merry, Merry Christmas - NKOTB
Oh Holy Night - Il Divo
Happy Xmas War is over -John & Yoko
Silver Bells - Michael Bublé
Christmastime - Bryan Adams
The most wonderful time of the year - Andy Williams
2000 Miles - Pretenders
Happy New year - Abba
Last Christmas - Wham

My favourite Band Aid is actually Band Aid 2 of Stock, Aiken & Waterman fame. I can't find it on any streaming platform except YouTube, but Matt Goss and Jason Donovan absolutely nail 'Bono' s line'.

I have just realised I am a huge ball of cheese! Grin

squashyhat · 22/11/2021 21:17

Ring Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull, In Dulce Jubilo by Mike Oldfield and Gaudete by Steelye Span.

Carols - The Sussex Carol and the Coventry Carol. Completely different but both really capture the season for me.

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/11/2021 21:18

At the moment Wrapped in Red by Kelly Clarkson.

However, last year I bought The Piano man at Christmas by Jamie Cullam and it is a wonderful Christmas album

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/11/2021 21:21

When the angelus is ringing
Silver bells
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
White Christmas

Anything old by the Rat Pack.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/11/2021 21:22
