What do you treat yourself to at Christmas that you don’t have any other time of the year?

Mine is my mums rocky road. She makes me a tray every year and it’s delicious Grin I also like a jar of cherries in kirsch for Christmas week - I have them on ice cream or chocolate cake.

Pickled walnuts..all to myself as I'm the only person I've ever met that likes them!

mamaandbabas · 19/11/2021 19:42

Tesco finest chocolate nut selection, mince pie with cream, honey coated jumbo cashew nuts, Baileys

troppibambini6 · 19/11/2021 19:42

@iloverainandrainbows of course Smile

It's just
A few handfuls of oats
Any nuts you like I do a mix pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds or whatever you like
Fresh cranberries and dried figs
Put it all in a bowl and mix with maple syrup til it's all wet about half a bottle
Then spread it on a baking tray and bake at 160 til it starts to go golden (about 15 mins) give it a mix and leave til goes golden again (about another 10)
Leave to cool and then but in an airtight container.
Make sure it's stone cold before it goes in the container or it goes soggy.

I need to have bread sauce on my roast potatoes at Christmas dinner, and not on any other roast dinner for the rest of the year.

I have cheese and buffet type nibbles on plenty of other occasions in the year, but hardly ever buy pate except at Christmas.

I’ve had a couple of tins of ambrosia Devon custards in the cupboard since last Christmas, so presumably they don’t get a lot of use at other times of year.

Im bereft. BEREFT. At the lack of bacon and maple syrup kettle chips this year.

Karmakamelion · 19/11/2021 20:14

Best veggie roast potatoes are made with flora gold!

Nicklebox · 19/11/2021 20:16

Xtraincome · 19/11/2021 20:18

-Full fat Dr Pepper and full sugar coke
-Kettle chips dipped in hummus (too fatty any other time of year, will demolish a massive bag and pot of hummus in one sitting)

  • cheese board wirh jarred antipasti- roasted peppers, cornichons, capers, gherkins, artichokes to go with goats cheese with rind, smelly blue cheese, Geetas Lime and Chilli Chutney
  • black truffle oil
  • Rafaello for DH
  • After eight sticks
Bearsbearsbears40 · 19/11/2021 20:24

We get all the usual treats in for Christmas but my personal favourite is a jar of Nutella. I only buy one a year in December. My DH doesn’t like it (LTB?) so I get it all to myself. There’s no way I can buy more than one per year as I eat it so quickly…

Lordamighty · 19/11/2021 20:24

Stollen bites
Cherries in kirsch
Peaches in brandy
Bendicks mint selection
Chocolate liqueurs
Lots of cheese & chutneys

I’m making myself hungry now.

@Notgoingonholiday

It sounds really sad but I have big bowls of 'not healthy' cereal every morning, like full fat muesli and Coco pops. The rest of the year I always have measured out portions of 'healthy cereal'. Also only drink Snowballs at Christmas, the first one is literally the start of Christmas officially.
I'm the same with the cereals @Notgoingonholiday 😀 I have to have Alpen and cinnamon cereals we don't usually eat! I need to check out the florentines in Aldi now. Love all the mince pies, Christmas cake etc. I saw Rudolph munch or something in M&S - might try that this year...
TrudyRuby · 19/11/2021 20:28

Madjool dates from a local Middle Eastern shop
Turkish delight from the nearby Turkish cafe

PomRuns · 19/11/2021 22:19

Stollen
Cheese
Amaretto - even though I don't really like marzipan.
Lindt balls
Florentines.

Holothane · 19/11/2021 22:23

Twiglets I love them and if I can get them this year marzipan fruits. Cheeselets as well if I can get them.

TheBestSpoon · 19/11/2021 22:27

M&S cherry liqueurs - love them, but like to keep them special and festive
Mince pies
Bread sauce - again, love it, but it wouldn't feel right any other time.

MamaWeasel · 19/11/2021 22:27

Clotted cream eaten off a spoon

HelloBunny · 19/11/2021 22:59

M&S Strawberry Crisp cereal
M&S Crumpets & butter
Tesco Finest Gouda Edam Cheese Thingies (snack crack!)
Nice fudge
Lidl Deluxe Macarons

HelloBunny · 19/11/2021 23:06

M&S did this chocolate cream tub last year, which is basically the stuff from their Profiterole Dessert pot. Getting it again if I see it. And Baileys Cream!

Got an M&S Salted Caramel jar, last year, that was amazing... Haven’t seen it, but got the Chocolate Truffle Sauce instead.

Always wanted the Salted Caramel Chocolate Pinecones box... Can anyone recommend them? (and tell me that I must buy them!)

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/11/2021 23:08

Pork pie and brown Sherry. Not veggie but generally don’t eat much meat. The meat isn’t really the issue with pork pies though, it’s all that lardy pastry. Heart attack in cellophane. It is delicious, though.

plominoagain · 19/11/2021 23:12

A kilo of truffled Baron Bigod and a box of fancy crackers , spread with raw butter from the same dairy that makes the cheese . My DH goes to the dairy to collect his work’s orders from there two or three times a week, so is on first name terms . They charge him the wholesale rate , which is handy . He bought me another kilo for my birthday too .

Totally a fromageophile , me .

AcrossthePond55 · 19/11/2021 23:15

Half n half in my coffee (normally I take it black), Amaretto, See's Peanut Brittle, Cadbury mini-snowballs, Bob's soft peppermints, Harry & David sweet pepper & onion relish. Really 'naice' port with dark chocolate to nibble.
