Hope you all find me ok

@EightToSixer clearly knows something I don’t about neom boxes 🤣.

If you’re posting anything specifically for me please do @ me or I may not spot it. It’s helpful if when sharing bargain info you bold it to make it easy for people to differentiate between chat and bargain links.

Oh, I was looking forward to reading The Christmas Pig but it doesn't sound like my 2 will enjoy it. I think I'll go back to good old Tom Fletcher instead.

Junobug · 21/11/2021 07:05

Thank you for the Ooni reviews. I'm sold. For those that are looking, Harts of Stur have £75 off the Karu which is the best price I have seen so far.

Changingagain · 21/11/2021 07:06

@slithytoveisascientist sorry it's very off topic, but do you mind telling me how old your ds was when you read the Harry Potter series.
My ds is 6 and has absolutely loved the first 3, read by me as a bedtime book. Most online guides say they should be much older for the rest so we've stopped. He's desperate to carry on though and had no issue with anything in the first 3, I think the fantasy theme makes all the issues a bit easier to deal with. I'd prefer not to read ahead without him as I know discovering what happens together is part of the fun for him.

@LastStarFighter

I’m also looking for men’s snoopy pyjamas (not in fleece) which seem impossible to find anywhere.

I know Primark had womens ones (because I bought some and now DH is jealous), but does anyone know if they have mens ones?

Nearest Primark is a 70 mile round trip, so would be good to know before I go. Or any other ideas?

Asda have snoopy pjs

Pebble child toys make beautiful ethical baby toys. They have 40% off for Black Friday with code BLACK40 and it applies to sale stuff too

My DD was 4-5 when I first read the full 7 HP books aloud to her, then we've done it again age 6-7. Have also watched the films. We've since moved onto my reading the full Hobbit book to get and now on the Narnia series.. I do a lot of reading aloud!! She doesn't seem to get upset quite the opposite. The darkest HP are her favourites oddly enough.

Have bought the Xmas pig but not looked at it yet, it's with a pile of packages I need to start sorting.

Howmanysleepsnow · 21/11/2021 07:22

My DS9 has just finished the Christmas Pig and absolutely loved it! He was that impressed he says he’s lending it to me to read next as he thinks I’ll love it too.

LyraSilvertongueBelacqua · 21/11/2021 07:23

@Junobug can highly recommend the Winston Christmas books by Alex T. Smith if you're looking for something new.

What a shame about The Christmas Pig, I love JK Rowling but I'll be giving that a miss. I know she likes to write to encompass a lot of various issues but that sounds a lot in one book!

Re: Emma Bridgewater, someone has put a referral on the referrals thread. Or DM me for one. HTH

@Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting

Oh I was thinking of getting the Christmas pig but it sounds hard work!

I've finally got the last bits from my WHSmith order. All in all it was a bargain!

DS now wants a heroes advent calendar instead of a Minecraft one. Happy days as it's only a fiver at tesco.

Barbie bargain at Amazon. Pic attached

To add, this is a good size box so certainly makes a decent gift! Comes with both the dolls shown as well.

Probably doesn't find them upsetting because she doesn't really understand what's happening. I think ideas such as e.g. committing an unspeakable act to split ones soul into pieces and achieve eternal life, but at the cost of your humanity, is too complex for a 6 year old.
SpamIAm · 21/11/2021 07:34

Personally I'll be trying to put off Harry Potter until they're old enough to appreciate how bloody brilliant they are Grin DH thinks I'm mean because I've banned the films until they've read the books 😂

Jacopone · 21/11/2021 07:34

I missed the John Lewis drama as yesterday went to JL in personSmile. My god, they always make an effort for Christmas but this year they have surpassed themselves - the whole display such a feast for the eyes. I only bought wrapping paper, cards, kids xmas jumpers (hurray! as not many sizes left online) and a bag for myself. A very different experience at Croydon Ikea - out of 13 items on my list they had only 1- stripy red and white napkins. No Xmas aprons, no tablerunners, no xmas wrapping paper, no star lights, no shoe horns and no mirrors (not even one out of my 3 options of floor mirrors).

I'm exactly the same! I was about 8 or 9 when I started reading them but only 3 were out at the time so I read them as they were released. I won't allow the films because I want them to have the experience I did reading them and my husband thinks I'm crazy.
Logoplanter · 21/11/2021 07:43

Just want to agree with the pp about the Christmas Pig. It's pretty miserable at the moment. Off the top of my head we've had parents arguing, divorce, moving away from friends, dad (probably?) moving abroad and think we are only up to chapter 4 and there are only a few pages a chapter! We borrowed it from our library which I'm pleased about as I can't see us ever reading it again.

The picture on the front and the name of the book made me think it'd be magical and fun filled. I'm currently feeling cheated!

TinyTroubleMaker · 21/11/2021 07:43

Dock absolutely. She giggles at things like Malfoy being turned into a ferret, and Ron being told to get up but going back to sleep. I'd like to think she will re read and uncover layers of deeper meaning for herself later...

NoWordForFluffy · 21/11/2021 07:43

Thanks for the Christmas Pig heads up. I'm not sure DD will enjoy that (she's 8 and stopped reading HP about halfway through the fifth book as it got a bit much for her). She's got a whole stack of other books, so it won't be missed, thankfully.

TinyTroubleMaker · 21/11/2021 07:44

Oh dear this doesn't sound promising for Christmas Pig

NoWordForFluffy · 21/11/2021 07:45

I already own it, so JKR won't miss out on my money! I'll just put it on a bookcase for DD to find later.

I'll be doing the same, it seems a waste to read them when they're young and not have the surprises when they're older. And the films are a definite no until they've read the books (half the films wouldn't even make sense on their own). I may be over invested though Blush
