DH's work is having one but anyone who will be spending Christmas with elderly parents has sensibly declined. The daily numbers have gone stupidly high this week (Ireland) so I wouldn't be surprised if more people drop out.

sazzy5 · 13/11/2021 12:08

Yep massive do, but it is fairly spacious. I’m going, I’m of age but I worked so hard this year I want some fun. Totally understand why some won’t be going, I’m glad it has always been an event you can choose to attend or not.

lockdownalli · 13/11/2021 13:52

No, we are doing an online Christmas party (in work time) and will also get a luxury Christmas Hamper which is nice Smile

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 13/11/2021 13:52

There is an informal pub crawl in brighton. It's a bloody long way fir me to go although I wouldn't go if it was in the pub at the end of my road !
No management arranged shindig though.

julieca · 13/11/2021 13:58

This has just made me realise I haven't heard anything about a Christmas do, so I guess not.

LeuvenMan · 13/11/2021 14:07

Should have been my works 100th birthday party this Thursday.
Cancelled due to Covid
Sad but completely understandable

BananaDaiquiri · 13/11/2021 14:07

Nope, ours is cancelled

RestingStitchFace · 13/11/2021 14:11

Yep and I'm really looking forward to it 🙂

lovablequalities · 13/11/2021 14:13

Yes but just my department of nine in a restaurant.

I have zero desire to go.

I'm trying to think of an excuse.

72WayTooCool · 13/11/2021 14:15

Yes, meal out at a posh hotel. Food and drink paid for. Contribution to bring a partner. We're a small company, I like my colleagues, it's an excuse to put on a glitzy frock and I'm looking forward to it.

The last Christmas works do I went to was many years ago, I worked in a Supermarket, and about 12 of us women, from different sections of the store, went for a nice meal and drinks, at a lovely refined pub in the area where I lived..All quite nice, except some boring coversations at times.

I was living with a serious alcoholic at the time., and he used to frequent a small back street pub much further up the road from this nice pub. The pubs were about a quarter of a mile apart..

At some point during the evening, when we women had finished our meal, and were having another drink,, all of a sudden the door flew open, and in staggered my alkie partner, absolutely wasted. he tripped near our table, and toppled over, onto the table, sending glasses of wine flying, and as yet not collected dinner plates, and a couple of handbags, all went flying onto the wooden floor..

The pub manager rushed in, and ordered a taxi, for drunken partner to be taken home. I had to tell the manager he was my almost comatose partner.. The supermaket women knew about my home issues.

Partner eventually drunk himself to death, much later. !

Ours has just been cancelled because of bloody COVID. I'm pretty annoyed. They've no problem with us being in an office together, what's the problem with going out together? People can always not go if they don't want to.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/11/2021 14:39

My workplace is yes. In a hotel, meal etc. Also having a departmental meal in a pub.

Awalkintime · 13/11/2021 14:40

Nope we don't do one because half of our team are wasp suckers so they complain about anything we organise and put down those who try to do anything positive.

Those of us without mouths like a cat's arse will likely go to the pub for a few drinks!

SquishMonsta · 13/11/2021 14:43

After work drinks the week before Christmas. Free bar. I’ll be avoiding like the plague.

Rrrob · 13/11/2021 14:51

Yes. 50 of us in a room together. I have been forced onto the organising committee but won’t be going. It’s a week before Christmas and I am not risking missing family xmas.

Polmuggle · 13/11/2021 14:51

Yes, and I can't wait! It will be great.

Hillary17 · 13/11/2021 15:06

Absolutely! It’s suggested people take a LF beforehand. Can’t wait to all be back together after two years of zoom!

Mantlemoose · 13/11/2021 15:06

@PhilCornwall1
triple vaccine is actually a thing! DS is triple vaccinated due to CEV and will get a booster in due course.

HeyupitsChristmas · 13/11/2021 15:06

No. I wouldn't go anyway. My days of going to work parties were done and dusted the year I saw two colleagues shagging under a table, another lot sharing a spliff in the car park, and a fist fight between two two section managers.

Going into work a day or two later was cringingly embarrassing.

midsomermurderess · 13/11/2021 15:08

Thankfully no. We are only a very small team but 2 are still quite anxious about contracting COVID, and that messing up family plans. I have always found the office Christmas do a bit painful.

Thefuturestory · 13/11/2021 15:10

Yes whole office do. Coaches organised. Band/DJ. Food and a drink included. Got my party dress and a cheap hotel room nearby.

I’ve been working throughout. I’m blinking going.

Aimee1987 · 13/11/2021 15:11

Were doing a low key team lunch in a local pub.

Thefuturestory · 13/11/2021 15:11

Oh gosh the walk of shame into the office must have been huge after that event!
DriftingBlue · 13/11/2021 16:06

No Christmas do. Our office is still technically closed, though people can go in to work if they want, they just can’t be required to come to the office.
