I work in hospitality. We are fully booked throughout December -bar the odd day- for Christmas parties. 200 to 300 each night for food, bar and disco.

I'm dreading it.

We don't have enough staff, deliveries are still flaky and I'm sure the team will be hit with covid throughout Confused.

RedHot22 · 13/11/2021 10:06

Lots of people saying ‘I’m double jabbed’

I’ve come to the conclusion that being double jabbed makes fuck all difference tbh.

user1487194234 · 13/11/2021 10:09

Yes we are
People seem really up for it wI think it will be a huge celebration of getting back to a more normal life
Most of our staff have worked right through

The few who are not coming are the ones who never join in

I expect its a double edged sword though isn't it, the bookings for many venues are much needed money wise.

On a work call yesterday I heard the words......

"I'm triple jabbed".

SickAndTiredAgain · 13/11/2021 10:11

Yep, a big one.
But I’m not going because I’m suffering badly with morning sickness at the moment so don’t want to confirm and then drop out if still unwell (which seems likely).

SpookyScarySkeletons · 13/11/2021 10:13

Yes, meal, drinks and dancing in a bit outdoor teepee! Should be fun!

I had decided not to go initially as I use a wheelchair and didn't want to have to ask people to push me up and down slopes when I don't really know them all that well. Plus scared of covid.

Changed my mind this week as a lovely family member is joining the same company so she will "look after me" and I caught covid last week so should have enough antibodies to be relatively safe in 2 weeks time!

I'm double jabbed.... caught covid last week! But wasn't as ill as I was expecting.
Dollywilde · 13/11/2021 10:15

Yes, a firm wide dinner (all paid for by the company so no personal cost). We’re almost all mixing in the office anyway so may as well. We’ve had a few more declines than normal but that’s entirely the decision of people if they don’t feel comfortable attending - there’s no judgment at all.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/11/2021 10:15

an outdoor teepee sounds a great idea

@Ricetwisty

Yes definitely. The company I work for are very pleased we have such high bookings.... but they are not the ones that have to deal with operationally.

Anyway, so not to derail the thread, we are not having a Christmas party Wink

RumHoney · 13/11/2021 10:16

We were asked to vote for lunch in the office, an evening event or a hamper. The hamper won.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 13/11/2021 10:19

No, but my employer is giving us the allowance in shopping vouchers instead - they did this last year as well.

TheNemesisOfLame · 13/11/2021 10:21

Yes. About 14 of us, lunch in a local restaurant.
We had on online thing last year - and I thought it was pointless.

ufucoffee · 13/11/2021 10:21

Not a work one, public sector so we never have one. I am going to other ones though and can't wait, looking forward to them.

Lottie4 · 13/11/2021 10:21

I have two jobs.

We don't go out for one, but work put on a buffet, as well as a small gift, names drawn for larger presents. Last year no buffet, they've asked staff to vote for either buffet, or wine/chocolates instead.

I doubt we'll do anything for my second job as there's a high level of covid.

Taswama · 13/11/2021 10:26

We are going for a team lunch in a pub - about 20 of us. We're not allowed to hold an onsite meeting with that many people as we're still doing 1m distancing but a pub lunch is fine apparently.
Paid for entirely by staff themselves.

RedHot22 · 13/11/2021 10:28

Ours is outside

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 13/11/2021 10:31

No, thank goodness. But one department is getting the bus to a nearby town, doing lunch and a few drinks, then last bus (6pm) back. I’ve cadged an invite. I don’t drink much these days, but it should be nice.

amsadandconfused · 13/11/2021 10:45

No because I work in a care home and the owners have refused to contribute a penny towards the meal . We worked our bollocks off last Christmas and we all got Covid over Christmas and New Year and this is how much appreciated we are !! So no …staff really are not in the Christmas spirit and feeling very undervalued!

Redwinestillfine · 13/11/2021 10:46

Yes but I won't be going. It's a free bar the week before Christmas for the whole (very large) office. Recipe for disaster. No way am I jepordising my Christmas to go out with colleagues.

reluctantbrit · 13/11/2021 11:17

Yes. We did a poll to all staff between an exclusive to us venue and a low key event in the office. After lots of going back. and forth it's the office now.

We normally have 85% attendance, I think we may have 45-50% this year. We get a meal delivered from a restaurant around the corner and order drinks and snacks.

It's a shame as our parties are normally great.

As a team (5 of us) we go. for an early dinner one evening.

I don't blame you! Ours is 2 weeks before Christmas so not as risky for the big day itself
EnidFrighten · 13/11/2021 12:06

Ours is cancelled. I look forward to Xmas work parties about as much as I look forward to being ill anyway
