we have to think of others
and ours has been cancelled

OP posts:
MrsMariaReynolds · 13/11/2021 16:36

Yup. Just paid the rest of the balance on ours--a primary school staff dinner and drinks at a local gastro pub. Haven't had one for years and really hoping it won't be cancelled 🤞

InFiveMins · 13/11/2021 16:55

Yes we are and I'm really looking forward to it!

slavetothekittens · 13/11/2021 17:54

Staff and volunteers from our charity shop are having a meal out, paid for by ourselves. I think there will be about 6-7 of us altogether.

Babyroobs · 13/11/2021 18:19

I work in a team of four. We have been given £15 by management to put towards a meal but no-one really likes each other very much so I don't think we are doing anything.

Lalliella · 13/11/2021 18:24

Yes. Two. I’m not going to either because I’m miserable and boring! Plus we’re spending Christmas with 85 year old DM and I don’t want to risk giving her covid.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 13/11/2021 18:26

@ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast

Yes. And we aren’t doing Covid passports or any tests. I don’t know if I want to go but it’s bad form not to.
Is it though? I don't go to mine and husband has been to one. 20+ years ago. Just cannot care less if someone thinks ill of me/him for it. Still getting promotions, so it doesn't seem to be harming us in any way that matters at least!
ufucoffee · 13/11/2021 22:08

@HeyupitsChristmas

No. I wouldn't go anyway. My days of going to work parties were done and dusted the year I saw two colleagues shagging under a table, another lot sharing a spliff in the car park, and a fist fight between two two section managers.

Going into work a day or two later was cringingly embarrassing.

That sounds like a great party imo. I love stuff like that. As long as I'm not involved.
NewbieAlert · 14/11/2021 07:20

Yes we are. Our industry has been closed from January to May and affected by restrictions from May to August.
Last year we spent Christmas in lockdown.

You’re damn right we are having a Christmas party this year!

Bigoldhag · 14/11/2021 09:41

Not having one here. Our team is national, and I live the furthest away from the vast majority of them. They will likely have an informal meet up at that a central location to the majority a week before Christmas but I won’t be attending. Besides not wanting to travel so far during Christmas rush, I’m concerned about picking up Covid/having to isolate over Christmas and missing out on family celebrations!

TravellingSpoon · 14/11/2021 09:45

We will have socially distanced residents party (Care Home), we have a lot of space so its manageable. We usually have a choir from a local school come in and sing songs which I dont think will happen this year.

Myself and a colleague have new jobs so its going to double up as a leaving do.

fairisledog · 14/11/2021 09:51

Ours is a sit down meal then disco and drinking at a large venue where tables are taken by many different workplaces.

Totally optional so I've opted out. I might have socialised with just my work colleagues but it seems odd to be encouraging unnecessary mixing with others. Apparently I'm being a kill-joy as "the numbers are falling", "we're coming out of the third wave nicely" etc etc. Yes, it does look that way but I want to spend Christmas with older/more vulnerable family members without worrying that I've come into contact with C19 at the Xmas do and might pass it on to them.

SleafordSods · 14/11/2021 09:52

Yes but it's in a small room with just us abs we all work together all day anyway.

Don't think they're doing Covid passports or LFTs either. They management haven't asked anybody so far if they're vaccinated 🙄

Peanutmnm · 14/11/2021 09:53

YES! Can't wait. I work with great people and have never had the opportunity to meet with some still due to remote working, and it will be great to have the chance to get to know them all better.

Rufus27 · 14/11/2021 10:06

I hope not. We currently have more cases of Covid among staff than we’ve had throughout the whole epidemic (high school). We can have no more than three in shared staff areas at present and people are generally tired (loads of covering for staff) and worried. In my children’s primary school, both of their teachers and one of their TAs have been off for the past two weeks with Covid. Most classes have at least a few children isolating. To meet indoors socially would be bonkers.

RampantIvy · 14/11/2021 10:11

Yes, but the outfit I have bought can be worn for other things as well. I didn't want to splash money out on something that I would only wear to a Christmas do in case it gets cancelled.

Wizzbangfizz · 14/11/2021 10:14

Yes and I'd rather poke my own eyes out that attend anything virtual.

languagelover96 · 14/11/2021 10:15

Yes a pub meal

BluebellsGreenbells · 14/11/2021 10:20

To meet indoors socially would be bonkers.

Why if most staff have had it and most are vaccinated then the party should be safe.

We are having a staff party - no restrictions same as we always have done.

Wizzbangfizz · 14/11/2021 10:26

Why would meeting indoors be madness?! Surely you are all indoors in an office?

BruiserWoods · 14/11/2021 10:27

We are, it's on the 10th December and it's outside, so I'll be wearing a north face coat with a wool jumper underneath. Better get fingerless gloves.

A friend of mine is a lawyer, specialised in HR. She said the number of. Christmas party related cases in January is astonishing.

She is still amazed that parties are still a thing, especially the ones with free bar.

Hellohah · 14/11/2021 10:34

Yes, there are only 5 of us in our office team, and it will be the first time we have all been together since March 2020.

Handsnotwands · 14/11/2021 10:48

Hell yes! We’ve worked like demons. We’re going out for dinner / drinks / dancing but we’re a close team who genuinely enjoy one another’s company. It’s not an official organised by the company thing. Very relaxed, come if you want to affair. I can’t wait

RampantIvy · 14/11/2021 10:54

but we’re a close team who genuinely enjoy one another’s company.

This pretty much describes the people I work with as well. Unlike what feels like most mumsnetters who seem to really dislike their colleagues.

We are workmates rather than just colleagues.

ufucoffee · 14/11/2021 11:11

'To meet indoors socially would be bonkers'

No, it wouldn't be bonkers at all
