please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

anyone got anything beyond student codes for asos/know what they're usually like vis a vis black friday? not sure if i should get dp's trainers now or wait..

Graphista · 20/11/2020 00:30

@Lovemusic33 re dds building gifts I’m thinking Meccano etc but also train sets (a friend is into this and she has a whole setup in her loft that she’s constantly adding to) or working model cars (another friend started this as a kid and she now makes a very good living building custom built motorcycles) just my thoughts

Graphista · 20/11/2020 00:38

The radio times thing - who is that through and does it come just as the magazine or is it poly wrapped? The person I’m thinking of would need it wrapped

Graphista · 20/11/2020 00:39

Actually same goes for radio times as for general older women’s magazines - my weekly and similar as that would do them too.

@fuckingfucksake

older couple one with Alzheimer’s hamper ideas

I have (I used to work in elderly care) beyond the usual “naice” tea/coffee/biscuits/chocolate/cake are:

Large print puzzle books - include good fine writing “marker” style pens, propelling pencils and highlighter pens (they’re easier for word searches)

Deck of cards

Set of Dominos

Dice

Connect 4 level difficulty or very familiar games in travel sizes, magnetic can be especially useful if either has any shakiness, or if you think they’d take in the spirit of fun games like Jenga or buckaroo - buckaroo was VERY popular one place I worked we ended up stocking up when a local shop had a sale!

Quiz questions (you can get wee books also sets of cards) set in their “era” of when they were teens/twenties - often the memory of this stage goes last and they remember very well news and current events from then including dates often better than a person of the same age without Alzheimer’s playing against them! It can give them a wee confidence boost to “beat” a competitor on this

Comic books of the comic strips they’d have grown up with - I’m in Scotland and “broons” and “oor Wullie” books Fit the bill for this.

Also if they still have a vcr (my parents do in bedroom) or DVD player (parents in living room) then you might also be able to get them films and tv shows of their “era” - again comedy tends to go down best!

Laughter is good for ALL of us medically at the moment - boosts immune system, reduces stress hormones and gives the lungs a healthy “workout”, in Alzheimer’s patient’s sense of humour can be first thing to deteriorate but has also in some studies been found to slow its progress (much more research needed)

I’m housebound with mh issues and a physical disability and I have asthma too - 1st thing I did in response to covid? Started watching more stand up comedy! Try and watch at least one show every couple of days for the lung and chest muscles and immunity benefits!

Apologies for not being able to work out links. Sorry !

Graphista · 20/11/2020 01:54

Graphista · 20/11/2020 02:00

@EvilHerbivore Tesco have that pack for just £4.25

Graphista · 20/11/2020 02:25

funky pigeon 25% off all cards with code CARD25

I got my photo calendar sorted but unfortunately the companies recommended were awful sites to use! Kept crashing and wouldn’t accept my “low quality” photos (which really weren’t! I know about photos and they were being unnecessarily fussy) and it was very hard to edit the calendars.

Due to bank cashback I was going to use funky pigeon for cards anyway, downloaded the app and could do my calendar on there really easily! Now I don’t know yet what the quality will be like I’ll ask the recipient when they see it and report back.

I’ve also just seen they do lovely looking engraved notebooks and other personalised gifts which I wish I'd realised earlier. Trying not to "twitch" here!

windsorblue · 20/11/2020 02:44

Just seen the price drop on this spear and jackson garden tool set - £16.99 which is the lowest since last black Friday.
Looks like there's deals on a lot of the spear and jackson stuff.
I should say I'm only a rookie gardener so no idea if the brand is a 'good' one.

Sorry for long link...
