Argghhhh, I’m so sorry, I hope I haven’t lost you all! I was keeping a beady eye then got distracted trying to work out how to forward plan a Zoom call for work and invite someone, which should only take a few minutes but I’m incompetent and it took me far too long Blush .

@CarrotVan I hope it was the former!

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Name of link

Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

Fantastic, thanks @Arthien
@Lockdownlumpy Dd and I read it over lockdown and enjoyed it. It’s a page turner so a great choice for a reluctant reader as well. It’s basically a fairytale and not remotely like Harry Potter.
I had to supervise the dc closely around it as there was some vile trolling on Twitter at the time.
I’d say it’s quite suitable for a seven year old.
I would definitely agree that is more of a fairy tale. Similar to traditional (and Disney adaptations) there is a death of a parent quite early on, which upset my 7 year old a little bit. (I wouldn't class this as a spoiler as it is in the first couple of chapters and used to set up the story and certain personalities of key characters) Once we got over that he loved the rest of the story and although we did finish it online I have bought the book as he wants to re-read it. I received it about ten minutes ago and it is a really lovely edition - feels like a nice gift.

starlight36 · 10/11/2020 13:49

I'd also add that The Ickabog has much shorter chapters than Harry Potter books Not only easier for younger readers but also good for tired parents reading bedtime stories!

thelegohooverer · 10/11/2020 14:03

I’m holding out for a good bargain on space masks if anyone spots one? Has to be the real ones.

Also can anyone recommend slippers that you don’t shuffle in? Can’t afford mahabis - they’re for me, not a gift, so as cheap as possible.

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/11/2020 14:14

Thanks @SlipASomethingUnderThe for the offer of the river island discount, if anyone else is in a similar position RIBOOST20 gets 20% off for new customers (or old customers with sneaky new email addresses also work Wink ) I think the minimum spend might be over £60 but I spent £90 so got £18 off! That’s me done and dusted

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/11/2020 14:16

The ickabog just arrived, it looks lovely and really clear large words which is fab.

@XmasLockdown

£5.50 from tomorrow
Thanks! Just updated my order 😊
Lockdownlumpy · 10/11/2020 14:18

Thanks all, I think I will order. Now to find a good deal...

Lockdownlumpy · 10/11/2020 14:20

I am doing so badly. I have 2 B+m stockings and 2 sacks thanks to a super kind mumsnetter who found me the elusive H. But I have virtually nothing to actually put in them!
And more of an issue is that my OH has bis birthday well before Xmas and I've nothing for that either, and no ideas. Can't browse the shops thanks to covid so will have to be online purchases only.

myhobbyisouting · 10/11/2020 14:26

My Ickabog just arrived too and I came to say the same thing. DS is going to love it

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/11/2020 14:29

Thank you so much to everyone for the whisky recommendations!! Waiting on DP now to let me know what type of whisky the recipient would prefer...

Really hoping Sapling Vodka do another offer soon too, I missed the last one as DP was adamant that his DSis liked gin, not vodka. Guess what?! Yes, she can't stand gin and would love vodka Hmm I might hold out till Black Friday if they don't do any offers beforehand, as my budget is again around £25 so it's just out of my reach.

@Lockdownlumpy maybe a magazine subscription? (Reminds me I'm still waiting for my GH magazine...!)

For anyone who's looking for jewellery, Buckley London have a £10 Tuesday offer on today, link is here - some lovely stuff again which I may have to order for me friends and family!

MrsDoctorDear · 10/11/2020 14:32

@InDreamland the new GHDs are nowhere near as good as the originals. My trusty old ones needed replacing in 2014. The new GHDs were crap so I ended up returning them and buying Cloud Nines.

It seems the GHD founder had left and set up Cloud Nine. Mine are still going strong after 6 years.

Gurufloof · 10/11/2020 14:34

Has anyone ever ordered from an online butcher type thing and can recommend
Pipers farm. Its quality meat. But you pay for it. They do offers if you sign up to emails. Last offer was 15% off everything.
Comes well packaged, all the packaging can be recycled or composted or returned to them. I've used them several times , I'm just doing a different thing this year.

Gurufloof · 10/11/2020 14:41

@BigBadBox

Those floors, I have to have some. Anglo Saxon blend??? Victorian blend, viking blend, Roman blend. All sounds fabulous. Thanks

PinkJam · 10/11/2020 14:41

Can anyone remember if the Nintendo Switch reduced in price in the Boxing Day or January sales last year?

Would you expect it to this year? Smile

How about making her some Christmas pudding vodka? I just finished the last of the batch I made in November ‘18!
Amazonmulu · 10/11/2020 14:48

Does anyone have a baker Ross code by any chance? My DD (4) has just been told her whole school year has to self isolate due to a positive case in the bubble 🙈 So trying to find stuff to occupy her while I work full time 🤦🏻‍♀️😭🍷🍷🍷🍷

Wiifitmama · 10/11/2020 14:54

Another thanks for the a typo heads up. Just bought loads of stocking fillers!

EwDavid · 10/11/2020 14:56

Can anyone recommend any really amazing marmalade? It's one of DH's favourite things in life so I'd love to get him some he hasn't tried before. Thanks!

tentative3 · 10/11/2020 14:59

@Lockdownlumpy don't panic, there is still time! Can we help with lists or suggestions or just by offering a place to write out what ideas you do have?

mummyof2boys30 · 10/11/2020 15:01

Before i buy 2 hooded blankets from new look does anyone know of primark or anywhere has more boyish looking ones. Don't want an oodie, just normal fleece blanket with with hood

bookish83 · 10/11/2020 15:07

@InDreamland

I've asked DH for some new GHD hair straighteners for Christmas as my current ones are 14/15 years now and need replacing. Looking on the John Lewis website and wondering if they might be in the black Friday sales. Does anyone know if they're likely to be reduced or should I get them now whilst in stock?
I got mine using an asos 20% off code

I believe Cloud 9 to be better (and essentially what the old GHDs were) but I have wide plate new GHDs and really like them. I'm not a hardcore hair straightener but really happy with them.

My old ones lasted about 11 years!

If you do buy now from John Lewis and they go down in price within 28 days on their site (eg on Black Friday) then you can claim the difference back. Its part of their Never Knowingly Undersold promise. I bought a large electrical item a couple of years ago a week before BF as it was reduced and didn't think it would go down further, but it was reduced further on BF so I called John Lewis and they directed me to a form on their website which I filled in and got £200 back! I was really pleased as it actually went out of stock on BF so I wouldn't have been able to order it. Info here on their website. There is of course a risk that they won't be reduced but if you were considering getting them anyway then I'd get them now rather than wait.
WisestIsShe · 10/11/2020 15:12

@ewdavid have you considered making some yourself? It's pretty simple and very delicious.

Thanks @PerditaNitt and @ClaraLane for the full suggestions. I'll have a look.

Littlemissindecisiveagain · 10/11/2020 15:23

Does anyone have an Argos code that they don’t need by any chance please?
