Argghhhh, I’m so sorry, I hope I haven’t lost you all! I was keeping a beady eye then got distracted trying to work out how to forward plan a Zoom call for work and invite someone, which should only take a few minutes but I’m incompetent and it took me far too long Blush .

@CarrotVan I hope it was the former!

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Someone was asking about Bonsai trees earlier, wowcher have a grow your own kit for £9.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 10/11/2020 11:28

Thanks for the Typo sale shout. There's 60 pages of sale stuff including Christmas baubles, wireless chargers, 2021 diary's and metal water bottles. Love their sale!

Brashopper · 10/11/2020 11:33

Penhaligon’s have more Mystery Gift Sets on offer, two for “ him” and two for “her.”

They aren’t as bargainous as earlier sets but are still good value compared with usual Penhaligon’s prices.

PinkDaydreams · 10/11/2020 11:34

@noodledoodler I saw the wild turkey and was thinking that one as I liked the label on the bottle! I'm not a whisky drinker at all

25% off full priced items over £100 on H Samuel

@WisestIsShe

Can anyone suggest a nice quality baby doll for a 3 year old please? Not too expensive please because she isn't mine and I've already bought her present. Looking for nice quality rather than cheap.
Have a look at the Lanka Kade and Big Jigs ones.

I've asked DH for some new GHD hair straighteners for Christmas as my current ones are 14/15 years now and need replacing. Looking on the John Lewis website and wondering if they might be in the black Friday sales. Does anyone know if they're likely to be reduced or should I get them now whilst in stock?

I8toys · 10/11/2020 12:26

Thanks for the Typo offer. Got the teens noodle bowls, pickle rick ornament, christmas trees for their rooms and things for our secret santa dip in the sack game.

Arthien · 10/11/2020 12:34

I’m considering ordering our Christmas meat and getting it delivered this year as I’m working til the 23rd and I don’t fancy queuing outside supermarkets on Christmas Eve. Has anyone ever ordered from an online butcher type thing and can recommend?

BigBadBox · 10/11/2020 12:35

@Gurufloof Bakery Bits are great for anything bread making

Arthien · 10/11/2020 12:37

@InDreamland I think GHDs are likely to be in the Black Friday sales somewhere, I’m sure amazon did some offers last year, but no guarantee John Lewis will of course. Depends if you particularly want them from JL I suppose and whether you want the most recent version.

You need to find a local butcher. Many deliver at Christmas or you can just collect . We have 2 fab ones here and tend to split the order across them (1 has better turkey, 1 has better beef)
HoHoHolyMackerel · 10/11/2020 12:44

We have ordered our turkey and beef from our local farm shop @Arthien. It worked out £1.10 extra per kilo which for two (i have two very small children who won't eat much) it was a no brainer to avoid the chaos of the supermarkets.

Arthien · 10/11/2020 12:45

@WillSantaBeComingToTown that’s what I did the last couple of years, a local butcher I’d used before but both times the turkey arrived with only one wing! Confused

I had to prop it up with a lemon wedge so it didn’t burn on one side, so I’m wondering whether a more well-known name might be more reliable? Otherwise I’ll have to go into town on Christmas Eve just to get the turkey and that butcher also charges scary prices!

InDreamland · 10/11/2020 12:47

@Arthien thanks. I do want the most up-to-date ones. I'm just used to buying that kinda thing from JL. Will have to check that the seller on Amazon is not a dodgy marketplace seller as I'm a bit wary of potentially purchasing an unsafe fake.

Do you need a wing?

We are having a crown this year- less people

Lockdownlumpy · 10/11/2020 12:50

Can anyone give me a review of the JK Rowling book please? Online reviews have been trolled so much because of the trans thing that I can't actually get a sense of whether it is in fact a good book.
I'm thinking about it for a 7yr old boy if that makes a difference.

Lockdownlumpy · 10/11/2020 12:51

The ICKABOG book that should have said!

Redwinestillfine · 10/11/2020 12:56

I read the start of it to my 6 yo boy and 8 yo girl when she was publishing a chapter s week during the first lockdown. We didn't get to finish it because we were late to the party and the pdf's disappeared, but they absolutely loved the bit they heard.

mogtheexcellent · 10/11/2020 13:02

@Lockdownlumpy I would say the Ickabog would be very good for a 7 year old boy. I've bought it for my 6 year old DD who is an advanced reader.

thelegohooverer · 10/11/2020 13:03

@Lockdownlumpy Dd and I read it over lockdown and enjoyed it. It’s a page turner so a great choice for a reluctant reader as well. It’s basically a fairytale and not remotely like Harry Potter.
I had to supervise the dc closely around it as there was some vile trolling on Twitter at the time.
I’d say it’s quite suitable for a seven year old.

Arthien · 10/11/2020 13:20

@WillSantaBeComingToTown I do prefer the brown meat but it was more of an issue that it wouldn’t then sit flat in the tray so half would have cooked/burnt more quickly. I would rather use a local place if I can but I’d heard some people had good reviews of some of the online delivery type things. To be fair, I’ve got pigs in blankets and stuffing already and those are the best bits Grin

Arthien · 10/11/2020 13:23

@InDreamland keep an eye on other places like Boots and Superdrug or one of the online places like Feel unique or Look Fantastic. Or maybe curry’s or Argos?
