If COVID restrictions still permit outside visits from a max of 2 families and 6 people, if I did this would you come? I am in Scotland.

I have a large covered outside area
Lit with fairly lights
Electric blanket on the outdoor sofas to sit on
Heated throws or blankets to cover up
Hot water bottles
Hot chocolate or drink of choice, alcohol too.
Canapés
Chocolates
Chimnea and marsh mallow toasting.

It’s December......

We usually cater a lot at Christmas. I’ll miss it with every bit of me this year. I am trying to come up with ideas so that we can still see friends. December is really important to me. This isn’t a getting pissed type thing. It’s just an hour or two.

Any thoughts.

@WitchesSpelleas

How are you doing the electrics for the electric blankets etc.? Wires on damp grass would worry me.
Any caravan site will have plenty of wires on damp grass. If you use the right wires you'll be fine.

Yes, DH has said about the toilet. We have a loo next to the front door and before the hall into the living bit of the house. If guests use that we use the en-suite. Thank you all for your comments. It’s given me a lot to think about.

Sure when do you want me?

sarahC40 · 07/11/2020 17:58

What time? It’s a bit of a drive for me but sounds lovely

GameSetMatch · 07/11/2020 18:01

Yes, what time? Is it adults only or can I bring the children too?

DespairingHomeowner · 07/11/2020 18:02

Yes, sounds great.

I wouldn’t be very concerned about washing blankets that go on lap over clothes: in many Mediterranean countries they are provided at restaurants and I wouldn’t expect those to be washed every time, even less concerned if it’s people I know

spiderlight · 07/11/2020 18:03

I'm on my way!

Eddielzzard · 07/11/2020 18:10

I certainly would be there! Sounds lovely. Wish I could do similar.

Butchyrestingface · 07/11/2020 18:18

As long as you're prepared for some curtain-twitching neighbour calling the police and then posting all about it on your local FB neighbourhood group.

Hopeishere52 · 07/11/2020 18:22

It sounds a lovely idea, if I wrapped up warm and brought a water bottle. Patio heater would be good too.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 07/11/2020 18:27

How many people will you be having and can they socially distance on your sofas? It does sound very nice and you're obviously making an enormous effort.

The loo though, as PP has posted, would be an issue wouldn't it?

I don't know... do what you can do to keep safe but you still have to live otherwise what's the point of it all? I hope you have a lovely Christmas event. :)

EisQuiaPiusEs · 07/11/2020 18:41

Oh goodness. I'd come just for the canapés. It sounds absolutely lovely, OP.

The numbers would be in line with restrictions in place at the moment. 6 from no more than 2 families. Kids under 12 don’t count in Scotland at the moment.

I’m not putting any firm plans in place at the moment because things could change.

I'm in London but I accept your invitation Grin

I so want to toast marshmallows! I'll bring those big marshmallow kebab things!

MMM2 · 07/11/2020 18:47

sounds lovely, is there room for me please ?

TidyOmlette · 07/11/2020 18:48

Sounds amazing from a fellow Scot!

We are concerned over Christmas too. Normally 10-15 of us from 3/4 households (sister, parents etc) and so far we are planning as normal with some precautions.

MrsSpringfield · 07/11/2020 18:51

I would love to! But wouldn't stay long, probably. I get cold easily and entertaining the kids / stopping them from getting too close might be a nightmare.

So yes, definitely, so long as it's not too far a journey.

Milkshake7489 · 07/11/2020 18:52

I would definitely come provided I could use your loo!

It all sounds very cosy and festive Grin

napody · 07/11/2020 18:53

@Dozer

Doubt outdoor in private gardens but not indoors will be within guidelines, since in practice everyone will end up inside.

But no, I wouldn’t want to do that. Hate the cold! And would need the loo etc. So would either meet in a house or not go.

Sounds a lovely setup, but this. Here in wales we are coming out of lockdown but, unlike before when 30 could meet outdoors, no meeting in private gardens is now allowed. Guidance says it's because people will be too tempted to head indoors at this time of year.
Jenasaurus · 07/11/2020 18:54

I would worry about using the toilet as if I was drinking I would need it a lot.

rumandbiscuits · 07/11/2020 18:55

Yes please!!! I wish I had friends like you 😂

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 07/11/2020 19:04

So long as it's not pishing down it sounds lovely

Ericaequites · 07/11/2020 19:09

Cocoa with peppermint schnapps or eggnog with Fureball or other cinnamon whiskey is lovely. I would come, if I were your friend.

CompleteBarstool · 07/11/2020 19:09

Hell yes, I'd be there as it sounds lovely. Smile

I'd also bring my insulated travel mug so that I could keep my hot chocolate (with Baileys, Tia Maria or Amaretto in it) warm

CrazyBaubles · 07/11/2020 19:09

I would definitely come. Only suggestions from me would be to have some scarves / hats / gloves / warm socks on standby for the people who didn't know how cold they'd be (I feel the cold badly but if my head and feet are warm, I'm usually fine).
