Morning!

New thread for our 'bonus' day today.

It's the anniversary of our gran dying today; she was a brilliant lady. Very young at heart. ❤️❤️ Very knowledgeable too.

It's windy today, isn't it? We have a Spanish-named storm coming across.

I think corona is concerning in the sense that any potential pandemic is concerning generally. And, as I said, I'm not that keen on being quarantined for a fortnight or more!

I also don't trust our government to act in our best interests over the whole thing.

Anyway, kids' party with DS today. Wooooo!

I will let you know on Friday Wreck but apparently it is quite a dry course so not expecting an easy time with it.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 04/03/2020 07:07

Wreck None my drawings ever looked like what I wanted them to so I feel your ds pain.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 07:12

That's the type of sulk we get here, Wreck! And there's no consoling / placating that works either.

We've been having merry hell with DD over World Book Day as she didn't know who she wanted to go as, then it was a bloody squid (yes, a 🦑). DH has managed to persuade her to re-use the Victorian Day outfit by bribing her with new books which match the outfit! So last night I gave her the Five Children and It series of books to read and she's going as Jane. Grin I refuse to pay money for this bloody thing.

Dd is going as Malala and ds Ronaldo. They have a theme of heroes and heroines. I always hate it when children go as footballers but tbh it's easy and ds is happy plus he has a Ronaldo book. I hate dress up days it's too stressful!

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 07:19

DS is always Batman (we have some books with him in!), so he's easy.

We're not given a theme; it's a free for all. Which is better in a way as you can tailor something you have to suit!

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 04/03/2020 07:22

Yes I agree. We have a theme every year. One year it was Julia Donaldson, one year Harry Potter etc I can't remember the others all I know is it gives me one more thing to stress about and get annoyed at DH about for leaving it all to me Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 07:25

Ah, I share the pain with DH (though he made last year's costume as he has more time for such things!). The year before I was sewing fun fur around DD's shoes late into the night to make a Peter Rabbit outfit. Such fun. Not.

Fancy dress / wear certain colours etc should all be banned. I've no idea whose benefit it's for, but it's just ridiculous!

Good morning everyone 😀
Wreck your Ds needs that book . Or at least a few quotes from it . Can you get it from the library for him ? I am not joking either l think it's very inspiring and Aimed at any age l feel, from young children to 90 l hope he feels happier this morning 🤗💐
'Why' l did a child neglect course and it was extremely heavy going. I was so upset l had to leave the room. I think it was quite common for this to happen so don't get hung up if you feel like l did 🤗

Mrsmadevans · 04/03/2020 07:35

World book day is a fantastic idea but the pressure of having to find and persuade the DC to wear a costume sometimes, really makes the whole thing a pita. Did any of you ever have parents/grandparents of some Dc make the best of everything . They would do everything from scratch, spend hours on it and get kudos from the head teacher and staff 🙄. I used to appreciate their work but it was OTT in my eyes, especially as the DC hadn't had anything to do with making the outfit 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 07:40

We didn't do it when I was a kid; I'm not sure when it started!

It's the anniversary of our nan dying today. I was 21 when she died and it's 22 years' ago, so she's been out of my life longer than she was in it. That's a weird feeling. I find it harder to remember her anniversary, which is bad, but gran's is rather more memorable!

DS's school has taken an eco view this year. Children can dress up but costumes should be made from clothes they already own or use recycled stuff. Otherwise come in uniform and the focus will be on books and reading. Thank God.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 07:48

I think all schools should be that sensible, Woolly. One of our friends is going to suggest something similar I think.

PJMasksGhekko · 04/03/2020 07:54

Morning, yes Fluffy I was thinking the same about nan, I do miss her, and I wish she could have met the kids, she would have loved them all!!

DD2 doesn' do dressing up in any way shape or form, so she'll wear a pj mask t shirt Grin I think she gets her stubbornness from Nan.

Wow why, sounds like it will be a tough course for you.

I need to start thinking about supplies if we do get coronavirus.

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/03/2020 08:03

I'm currently in Tesco car park I'm off to clear the shelves of anything remotely edible.

Actually I've come for some veg for tonight's dinner and DH fancies a bag of Monster Munch 🤣. I inherited my DM's squirrelling gene so we could manage on food I already have for a couple of weeks. I could maybe add some tinned fruit for variety but otherwise I think I'm good.

WreckTangled · 04/03/2020 08:08

I don't think we could even do a week with what we have in. Maybe three days? And that wouldn't be great meals either.

Mrs I've added it to my amazon basket.

Dd now having a meltdown over her hair being greasy. I told her to wash it last night and she didn't, not much I can do about it now, even the dry shampoo isn't helping.

Mrsmadevans · 04/03/2020 10:21

On our way to Cwmbran.
Mum was very nice to me this morning 🙄 full of woe re my sister and brother 🤯🙄. I have been on Stately homes and it's been a Godsend 👍
Wreck the Dds hair is she putting conditioner on the roots? My Dd's have stopped using it all over just using it on the ends now and it seems to be a lot less greasy 😬
Woolly l bought all my Easter eggs in there yesterday, they were 75p on offer . I bought about 12 🤣

Mrsmadevans · 04/03/2020 10:30

I am so sorry about the Anni of your Nan ,
Fluffy, Why, PJ
She sounds like an amazing lady ❤️💐

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 11:30

Morning (just)
spicy chicken and roasted med veg lasagne in the oven for lunch.
DH has repaired the fence, trimmed the edge of the lawn where it was hanging over the path and generally faffed in the garden Hmm.
WBD sounds like a pita. How many classes end up with a dozen supermen/batmen and a dozen disney princesses?
Flowers fluffy, why and PJ.
I hardly remember my Gran or Nan, and both Grandads died before I was born. That's the problems with older parents I suppose.
Mrs She's being nice to you from guilt. She knows she is in the wrong (and so is your sis and bro). Tell her not to mention either of them in you presence again or you will leave. Why should you be her sounding board for her own guilty conscience? It's not fair on you sweetie.
why That sounds like a difficult few days. Take a bit of time for yourself.
wreck I can only draw cats and horses Grin I gave up on people years ago.

BiddyPop · 04/03/2020 13:06

Afternoon all, I got stuck into some clearing out yesterday, (and stashing the stores items I had bought out of sight). Today is trying to clear off the old desk, before a day at the new one tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I should keep my planned day off on Friday or postpone it as DD is also off school - so there is no chance I would get the sewing machine out while she's around....

Hugs to all who need them, it sounds like there are a fair few difficulties to get over, but there is sunshine here so sending some good vibes to get through it.

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 13:13

Biddy You could have a lovely day with your DD Halo...or you can be practical, cancel the day off and have a lovely day with your sewing machine in a week or threeGrin

FireflyGirl · 04/03/2020 13:27

DS doesn't really do dressing up either. We've chatted about WBD.

I asked what he wanted to go as, and he decided the Gruffalo. He has some Gruffalo tops, so I'll just send him in one of those. I was going to send him in leggings and a cape as Supertato, but this is even less messing around! Grin

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 13:53

I'm still in awe of fluffy convincing her DD not to go as a squid Grin
Gruffalo sounds a lot less work.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 14:18

It was DH, not me!

FireflyGirl · 04/03/2020 14:28

You're stunting her creativity, Fluffy 🤨😂

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 16:54

I suppose you could have used stuffed tights for the legs?...
