Morning!

New thread for our 'bonus' day today.

It's the anniversary of our gran dying today; she was a brilliant lady. Very young at heart. ❤️❤️ Very knowledgeable too.

It's windy today, isn't it? We have a Spanish-named storm coming across.

I think corona is concerning in the sense that any potential pandemic is concerning generally. And, as I said, I'm not that keen on being quarantined for a fortnight or more!

I also don't trust our government to act in our best interests over the whole thing.

Anyway, kids' party with DS today. Wooooo!

No my mileage is tax free. No childcare fees thankfully!

EmrysAtticus · 18/03/2020 16:43

If we are shut until the summer I just picked DS up from his last ever day at nursery Shock

CrazyBaubles · 18/03/2020 17:08

MrsMad DH text me to let me know about the schools.

boots 😱 about your hair. Is this your usual hairdresser?
Let me know when you're dealing with DH. I have no problems being your alibi Grin

Your poor DD woolly. It's so frustrating isn't it?
My tickets for the Cursed Child are the beginning of May and I don't know what to do about them.

I've been sent eleventy billion links to the crochet loo roll 😂 Won't be making any - but I have had a genuine request from MIL for a stuffed animal so I'll get on that ASAP.

Wreck That's a lot of £ to lose but it could be so much worse.

I'm banking on the extra money I spend heating our freezing house is offset by the fuel savings.

We're lucky that our company has confirmed everyone will get paid if they have to self isolate - my friends daughter works in a civil service job and has been told she must either take annual or unpaid leave.

I'm a bit worried about how DH and I will cope in isolation though!

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 17:10

Neros
Schools shut up your way Grin from TODAY!

PJMasksGhekko · 18/03/2020 17:19

puss we need evidence of shoving your head in shit Grin

Schools closing on Friday.

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 17:19

OK update on the "hair" situation.
It was between bra strap/waist (but i'm a porker so my waist is high)
It's now 7 or 8 inches shorter.
I could happily kill the bitch.
It's also wonky and longer on one side.

Luckily it will tie back, so I will keep it like that for another year (after the last shitty haircut 2 yrs ago took me 18 months to recover from)

Hair is a problem for me.
My mum used it to punish me with scissors as a kid, so I often looked like a boy despite wanting long hair.
She still bullied me in my 40s to get my hair cut.
Sorry, will be back tomorrow.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/03/2020 17:28

Yep, schools are closed from Friday (other than key workers' and vulnerable kids).

I'm WFH from tomorrow. I'm not sure the two are compatible!

Sorry, I've not replied to anyone. I've been manic this afternoon and not had a chance to go through. Sorry!

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 17:44

Dd2 has been manic there today. Hardly anyone came in to work. Her boss went home early and she has just left. Sposed to finish at 5 . She's going in half day tomorrow to finish off everything and coming home after to work from home . They will be home for two weeks then review it.
I can see her doing more work at home than she does in the office tbh. She doesn't mind she said she would be bored to tears.

FireflyGirl · 18/03/2020 21:17

That's awful, boots. I can understand why it's such a sensitive issue for you!

Tell her she needs to take it easy, MrsM. Her immune system will be down anyway, no point making herself more susceptible.

My friend has mentioned in our group chat that she's stayed home from work today, as she has a sore throat, cough and a temperature. She said she'll see how she feels tomorrow. I said she'd better be feeling like she's in quarantine! She lives alone, so it's only 7 days. I bet B&Q will be doing a roaring trade as people try to find something to do while they're quarantined!

DS's school have offered (from their own funds) £15 per child supermarket vouchers to those entitled to free school meals, to see them through this.

WreckTangled · 18/03/2020 21:34

My brother is a teacher and was delivering lunches to children who were off today that usually have FSM.

Boots I'm so sorry to read that Sad

I feel this whole thing is very surreal I can't believe it's happening really. I feel like I need to write off the whole year and I'm worrying about things of privilege and then get cross with myself for being so selfish.

Ds is having bad dreams tonight, lots of shouting going on. Can't be a coincidence.

NerosFiddle · 18/03/2020 22:00

Boots I'm sorry to hear what you've been through.

Wreck I can't remember the age of your DS but CBeebies has a thing that explains CV in a way they understand without frightening them.

Mrs hope your dd is starting to feel better.

Dh is essential services so can't isolate. He said 90% of people are being great and understanding but there's 10% that's making this thing far worse.

PJMasksGhekko · 18/03/2020 22:05

Wreck, that's very good of your brother!!

I said to Dh earlier that it feels like we are in a movie yet we obviously don't know the ending.

Still getting messages from staff bank at this time of the night too, they normally stop at 9pm.

Morning!

Life feels rather odd right now, doesn't it? Especially now schools are closing.

I feel rather 'meh' about it all, it has to be said. I'm going to need to look after my mental health during all of this. We should try to support each other where we can. ❤️

Morning.

I'm going to make sure I start exercising again. I'm going to do it in the morning just twenty minutes each day whilst the dc have breakfast. They will have to have breakfast at the table then get dressed during the week, like they do on a school day then I'll have a shower and we will all go for a walk. Hoping to start each day like that if the weather allows. I think routine will be important.

pussycatinboots · 19/03/2020 06:54

Morning
Thanks for your kindness last night. I just had to have a little sulk. It'll grow back and there's more important stuff to worry about than hair.
Looks like those of us with green fingers might get a decent weekend to potter in the garden/allotment Smile

Mrsmadevans · 19/03/2020 07:28

Morning everyone 😀
I slept till half 6 which is a great improvement 🤗
Fire l am not ashamed to say that the school giving money to the DC and Wrecks DB has made me cry this morning. Fluffy is right we all need to support each other through this.
I know l have been very anxious myself . Am here for everyone if you want to chat or text or pm me 😊
Boot l didn't know what to say to you re your hair tbh . It bought back some unpleasant memories of my own childhood. My Mum neglected my hair , it was very long thick and frizzy. She never washed it . I would have it done once in a blue moon. When she did it the pain was excruciating. She was so rough with my hair . It was full of tangles . She used to brush the outer hair and put it all in an elastic band from the post office. My Dad was a postman there were never any pretty ribbons or clips. Just brown elastic bands. Mum just couldn't be bothered . I wish l had my hair cut short tbh. I took over washing/combing my hair when l was about 10.

Mrsmadevans · 19/03/2020 07:32

Nero thank you re my Dd2 , she is feeling a bit better but still not well even though she had Penicillin on Tuesday. She will be fine though I know 🤗

pussycatinboots · 19/03/2020 07:37

Mrs that's why mine was short (although it was/is fairly straight and not difficult to brush) she CBA with it.

Mrsmadevans · 19/03/2020 07:51

Hugs right back at you Boot ❤️😘
Scroll on everyone. l am remembering stuff now got to put it to rights 🙄🥺🤗
It's so ironic that l am the total opposite to the rest of my family. I am so glad though . I think it's because I read and read from when l was tiny , books like Enid Blyton and Charles Dickens and my favourite books when young were Shadow the sheepdog, Show Jumping Summer & the twins at St Clare's and the cousins at Cherry tree farm . The 5 find outers were hilarious and l think that is what led me to read Agatha Christie. Oliver Twist etc. Books saved me to be honest 🤗

pussycatinboots · 19/03/2020 07:59

I had Cherry Tree Farm, there was Willow Farm too.

Mrsmadevans · 19/03/2020 08:12

Was Willow tree farm the other cousins farm?
I remember crying, l was about 6 or 7 when l read the one book . The horrible mother made the little boy send his collie dog puppy back to the other farm because she was such a snob and didn't want the smell/mess. Show jumping Summer was just brilliant. I read it time and time again 😀
Better shift off to Mum's take care everyone 💐😘

pussycatinboots · 19/03/2020 08:19

I think so. I can't really remember the plot Blush

DH has asked "what are we doing today?"
erm...you've got months of this ahead, mate - fence panels (again)?
I'm on MN and trying to grow my hair Grin both v important things.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 19/03/2020 08:22

Morning 😊

Mrs she said she would do some ironing. I am busy building up the pile for her (not quite true but there is quite alot)

I changed my work laptop password and now it has locked me out because it does not like it although it works on my phone. Bloomin typical. Hoping to sort it before night shift tonight.

Mrsmadevans · 19/03/2020 08:29

Why that is so good of her 🤗Yay!
Boot my DH is finally going to uproot an old bush and plant a Laurel hedge in the front 😀
Must go Mum's am going to get the Cheryl tree farm books 😀
