Morning!

New thread for our 'bonus' day today.

It's the anniversary of our gran dying today; she was a brilliant lady. Very young at heart. ❤️❤️ Very knowledgeable too.

It's windy today, isn't it? We have a Spanish-named storm coming across.

I think corona is concerning in the sense that any potential pandemic is concerning generally. And, as I said, I'm not that keen on being quarantined for a fortnight or more!

I also don't trust our government to act in our best interests over the whole thing.

Anyway, kids' party with DS today. Wooooo!

Those two look like they're living the dream, Neros. Can't believe that it's frosty, though.

Christmas film sounds a good idea, Crazy. I think at the moment, everyone needs to really take care of themselves. It might only be a slight cough, but it'll mean your immune system is down Flowers

Bless you, MrsM, I'm sure she'll really appreciate it. I'm in the spare room, which is now less mancave-y, but not exactly 'cosy' due to clutter. It's actually my clutter, but it's only there because I couldn't get past DH's crap to put it away!!

Thanks for the emails, PJ. Hope you're feeling better soon!

This morning DS has had 'free play' (which included building a robot to spy on R-Cat, who has been trying to get away with sleeping in the bed), nature and biology (digging worms on the allotment to put in the wormery he got last week for his birthday, discussing why they're different colours, and why he shouldn't put other worm-eating creatures in there), maths (adding and subtracting the worms every time they escaped after he knocked the wormery over), snack time and reading (I got DH to pick him some books up from school), and then I ditched him with DH to hide upstairs and MN do some work. Think DH is doing 'proper' science - some sort of experiment, but they're writing hypotheses out first HmmGrin

FireflyGirl · 18/03/2020 12:14

That picture will definitely cheer her up, MrsM Grin

I daren't post a photo of my hovel study... Blush

PJMasksGhekko · 18/03/2020 12:58

I'm off back to bed, hopefully some of the links will be useful Firefly.

I didn't know him mrs, his poor family Sad

CrazyBaubles · 18/03/2020 13:02

Neros I was thinking of a Christmas Carol but not possibly trying a different version (I only ever watch the Muppets one).

MrsMad well done on the study!
I'm ok. DH is worried though because he will have to self isolate too and staff from his school are dropping to the point they're struggling to stay open so he really wanted to stay in.

Thank you Firefly. My immune system is generally rubbish anyway - I lose my voice around every other month and pick up lots of little bugs all the time. Doesn't usually amount to anything though.

Love your creativity with your DS's day and how educational you can make a wormery accident 😂

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 13:20

All schools in Wales to close by Friday just announced

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 13:26

Crazy you need to both stay home if you can Smile
Fire & Crazy Thank you re the 'office' for DD2 Grin

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 14:02

I am now officially bald.
NDN/Hairdresser didn't take off 2" (a trim) as i asked for, she stole about 8" (a restyle - "it gives you more body" I don't want bloody "body" ShockAngry) and it barely ties back.
DH watched her do it and didn't bloody stop her. I may need to do some work to the patio.
She wanted to know Confused"when the plague was on, didn't people go abroad?"
...erm, no...the Airbus A380 hadn't been invented then...Hmm

Luckily I have (some) alcohol and a woolly hat to compensate for the lack of hair.
I have had a little cry
or two.

FireflyGirl · 18/03/2020 14:08

Oh, boots, you poor thing!

The plague came from abroad!!

I was hoping I may have won the euromillions last night, so I could buy an island somewhere hot for us all to quarantine on, but no such luck. Oh well.

Crazy it was desperation rather than creativity Grin

EmrysAtticus · 18/03/2020 14:14

Congrats fire!

School today is so odd, just finishing things up and then we are gone. Feels crazy that we could potentially not be back until September.

TheWoollybacksWife · 18/03/2020 14:20

Flipping heck boots that's rotten. I'll be your alibi.

Congratulations Firefly. I'm not sure about crocheting bog roll but I can definitely make you a prank blanket or some hats later in the year.

We are all in isolation. DD1 and DS have got coughs, as have I. I had a cold last week and they both suffer with hay fever so usually get coughs at this time of year. DD1 has mild (usually well controlled) asthma so is isolating for that reason. As long as their temperature stays normal I'm not panicking but the sudden change has hit me like a ton of bricks. I admit I got into bed and had a little weep last night. Poor DD2 is having to adjust a fair bit. She's just started a teaching placement and can't go back next week although that may be a moot point if the schools close anyway. Her uni shut on Monday but she can't go to her PT job. All the plans for her 21st next month are being postponed and she has a girls holiday booked that will probably get cancelled. Still, if that's the worst thing that happens it will be okay.

Hope everyone else is coping and is well.

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 14:20

Firefly I did try to explain the fleas on rats on boats thing...it didn't work...nor did the people didn't leave their village Hmm pointless.
Isn't there an experiment with a mint and fizzy drink? - it explodes like a rocket - would be fun for them both Grin, but you'll have to google it might also be a waste of pop

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 14:31

Woolly I'm thinking of knitting myself a wig Grin I've got a pattern for a viking helmet with plaits so I might have a go at that - but I've only got navy or purple yarn in the stash...it'll be different anyway Grin especially with the horns!
I think crocheted loo roll might be a bit, erm, lumpy? not v gentle on the nethers...Shock
Sorry you're all stuck in. I think the combo of knowing we won't be going out for months and being a little less hairy than I'd like set me off Smile
We all need a little sob, weep or cry now and then and some swearing Blush
big for your DD, that's a lot of upheaval in a short space for her.

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 14:40

BBC reporting schools will be shut "by friday"
(england and wales)

Gavin Williamson giving a statement at either 5 or 5.30 (the banner on BBC has disappeared when I refreshed the page)

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 14:56

from BBC website

14:02
UK education secretary to make statement at 17:00GMT
The UK government's Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson - responsible for the system in England - will make a statement in the House of Commons at 17:00GMT.

In the past hour the governments in both Wales and Scotland have both said their schools would be closing by the end of the week.

WreckTangled · 18/03/2020 15:36

My manager said I can work from home (wouldn't have anything to do) but I said I'll stay in the office. If schools close I'll work from home. It's a pain because I'll lose my mileage and I know that's a lot less that some people are using but it's about £15-£20 a day which is a lot to me!

Oh no boots I really feel for you. At least no one will be seeing you for a few weeks...

Hope you're ok crazy

I know someone who's husband has it and he's very unwell Sad

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 15:41

Woolly you poor thing, take care and look after yourselves Flowers
Boot I think we need a pic, where has your Dh left the charger Flowers
Dh has been foraging in the garage and found a massive Swarfega 4l in the garage so we have all the hand wash we need so that is another thing we can leave on the shelves Grin

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 18/03/2020 15:50

Ah boots bless you I have been on the receiving end of a tear inducing hair cut before now. Sending growing vibes.

My daughter's work has closed for the foreseeable future so may see if she fancies doing the ironing for cash reward.

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 15:52

Ahh Wreck just saw your update . I hope your friends Dh recovers Flowers
I know it's a lot of money, after tax it's about 60 quid a week less . Looks like the schools ARE closing in England . I think it is just another thing we are just going to have to suck up , l realise it is no good for you with a young family as well Flowers I am sorry love .

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 16:06

Why if she decides to take the bait job of Ironer Grin then grab it with both hands hate ironing so boring Grin

pussycatinboots · 18/03/2020 16:07

I'm considering dunking my head in a bucket of shit to get my hair to grow faster...thoughts?? Grin

It's not the first shitty short cut i've had. Why don't they bloody listen!?!?!

It will be the last.

why why are you ironing? I haven't for years - admittedly I look like I've been sleeping in a skip sometimes Blush

WreckTangled · 18/03/2020 16:13

Boots it might work Grin worth a try. Please film it!

Mrs it's tax free! But I know I'm extremely lucky I'll be paid in full if I'm off work with the dc because their school is closed and it won't be forever.

WreckTangled · 18/03/2020 16:15

I will save money on fuel though so swings and roundabouts Grin

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 16:16

Boot , if we could see it we could reassure you it wasn't that bad , can you post a pic of it, l bet it is lovely Smile Flowers
My DD2 has got to cut my DD1 hair and she is going to cut too much off it l know and DD1 is going to kill Dd2 Grin
In other news l am freezing , have cranked the boiler on much to Dh dismay Grin, if your hair is as short as you say, l think you may need a hat to keep warm Smile

Mrsmadevans · 18/03/2020 16:19

Wreck don't you have to pay tax on your expenses love , l always had to pay it and complete a tax form P11D , I hated it Grin
Also would you have to pay childcare so perhaps it is a blessing in disguise Smile
