Morning!

New thread for our 'bonus' day today.

It's the anniversary of our gran dying today; she was a brilliant lady. Very young at heart. ❤️❤️ Very knowledgeable too.

It's windy today, isn't it? We have a Spanish-named storm coming across.

I think corona is concerning in the sense that any potential pandemic is concerning generally. And, as I said, I'm not that keen on being quarantined for a fortnight or more!

I also don't trust our government to act in our best interests over the whole thing.

Anyway, kids' party with DS today. Wooooo!

Happy birthday boots! Cake

All a bit up on the air long term fluffy will have to see what happens over the next couple of months.

Mrsmadevans · 12/03/2020 09:25

PJ hope you are much better very soon 💐
Those headphones sound amazing 👌 😊 he will love them l am sure.
I have a bit of a dilemma , my Mum's friends want to visit . She has Bob and us to socialise with and my Mum's NDN who is amazing. I don't want to expose her to the virus and think they should all be thinking the same way as me but I realise they are all very stubborn and I can't see any of them liking it 🙄

Mrsmadevans · 12/03/2020 09:27

It's a lot of ppl by the way about 12 , all elderly 🥺
All stubborn and tetchy 🙄

pussycatinboots · 12/03/2020 10:48

Mrs Your poor DD. That's the problem at the mo, it's still cold/flu/bugly season and how do you know what you've got? Very wise for your Mum and Bob to keep their distance from others.
I've seen the water fountains, then need filters too. Not sure our 2 would take to them and Tilly likes washing her paws in her water bowl or siting under the tap in the sink
DH has kindly bought me some growbags Hmm for my Birthday. Isn't that lovely of him...hang on, I paid for them! Shock

NerosFiddle · 12/03/2020 11:54

Happy birthday boots.

So the Republic of Ireland is now on lock down, but us in the north aren't. I live a mile from the border 🤷‍♀️.

I went to the drs this morning to get bloods done. It was deserted. They're only doing consultations over the phone.

NerosFiddle · 12/03/2020 11:55

Mrs your poor dd. Is it tonsillitis?

FireflyGirl · 12/03/2020 13:38

Your poor DD, MrsM. Here's hoping she feels better soon.

Your mum is a grown up, so it's ultimately up to her to decide what to do, but I would point out that RoI is in lockdown, the government is in crisis talks again and the entire country is talking contingency plans for school/workplace closures. It's an unnecessary risk, not just for her but for all of them. And Bob! They could talk on the phone and meet up in a couple of weeks!

Happy birthday/anniversary, boots. I'd quite like growbags for my birthday #saddo Grin

T-Cat used to have one of those water fountains before he came to us (adopted from friends who emigrated). We didn't have a suitable outlet, so he gets a dish here Wink

More contingency meetings going on at work. They're now asking admin staff to consider working outside of core office hours, as they anticipate childcare issues due to school closures.

I am deep cleaning everything at home - I'm turning into Mrs Hinch! Grin Although I had to clean the bath as I had washed all my plant pots in it and it had a proper tide line - I think that would probably have given her a heart attack Wink

FireflyGirl · 12/03/2020 13:40

Dr's advice on protecting elderly relatives

FireflyGirl · 12/03/2020 13:42

So, if they do insist on meeting up MrsM, they all need to wash their hands properly on arriving, after coughing or sneezing, and before eating.

CrazyBaubles · 12/03/2020 16:10

Congratulations Emrys 🥳

Happy Birthday & Anniversary puss 🎈 🎂

Work are making me 🙄 with the contingency plans they're scrabbling together. I can't do most of my work from home so I do the bulk in the office and just the admin side at home. They've taken my laptop back to give to someone else who is more 'business critical' than me (ie answers the phones to customers) which is fine but now they're worried about what to do with me and my team if we have to isolate.

It feels to me like the world is going mad although DH is half hoping for school closures so he gets an extended holiday
I'm not considering self isolation as an option but monitoring the guidelines for now.

I hope everyone who was feeling rubbish is starting to feel better.

Oh and good news - I finally finished the sky on my cross stitch! Feels like I was working on it forever..

It's a Leap Year, so we've an extra day to wait until Christmas! Countdown to Christmas 2020, thread 3!
EmrysAtticus · 12/03/2020 17:24

It's looking great Crazy!

We have a cat fountain but don't use the filters, just clean it regularly :)

Weirdly DH got a promotion today!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 12/03/2020 18:56

Hi folks. Happy birthday boots and happy anniversary.

I am nearly out of energy. Still five days off once I finish at lunchtime tomorrow.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/03/2020 19:08

Happy Birthday boots Xmas Grin

Tomorrow is my Non Working Day , DH is WFH, DS isn't a University and DD has had exams so off tomorrow .

So I can have a lie in 'cos I don't need to drive various people to various places..

I can catch up with Eastenders .

It is blardy Baltic here . Could be the threat of snow .

I went to see my elderly parents last week Mrs and they were scarily unaware about the Coronovirus . But at the time there was a single case ( they're in Scotland) now I think there's 16 ?
I am trying not to think about my lovely cruise hat is looking more likely to be cancelled < sigh> World's Tiniest Violin Emoji

WreckTangled · 12/03/2020 19:23

Hope you've enjoyed your day boots!

Dd had her grade 1 piano today and for a distinction with a score of 91%!

I've got a food delivery booked for tomorrow but it's £25 over budget and I'm still not done. Not sure what I can do though, are they putting prices up or am I being greedy?! The cauliflower is £1.85!

Sorry I haven't caught up much haven't had a minute spare today

NerosFiddle · 12/03/2020 20:53

70 enjoy your lie in.

Wreck well done to your dd.
The prices seem to be really going up for essentials. And that's if you can even get them. The shelves are half empty.

Mrs I got some books tonight on the book people. Dd loves frozen 2 so I got a couple there. Only £2 each.

I think I need to start stockpiling crisps and wine Grin

FireflyGirl · 12/03/2020 21:16

Got to get the essentials in, Neros Grin

£1.85 for a cauliflower is extortionate, Wreck, where are you ordering your shopping from?!?

Work have asked us to come up with a rota in our teams to wfh two days a week. They're offering full pay for anyone who has to be off, either ill or for childcare issues.

So, DH has spent the evening clearing out the man cave spare room so that we can both actually get in there work in there if needed.

WreckTangled · 12/03/2020 21:23

Tesco!

PJMasksGhekko · 12/03/2020 21:38

Why, enjoy your 5 days off!!

Morning!

It's bright and breezy here today and it's Friday! Hurrah!!

Mrs, it sounds like your mum may have listened to you, thankfully! I hope your DD2 is feeling better soon too. Any word on a completion date for her house?

Wreck, I wouldn't pay £1.85 for a cauli! It's coming to the end of the season, so that's why it's dearer. I certainly wouldn't buy one online for £1.85 as it'll be the size of a cricket ball too!

Em, yay re both promotions! What a lovely week you're having!

Why, only half a day to go. You can do this! I hope this afternoon goes well.

PJ, the headphones sound good! At least there's cash back. Are you feeling better today?

We have loads of colouring supplies, thankfully. I got them both a Melissa and Doug one for Christmas which they're enjoying. They spend more time on Lego though really.

Your work sound good, Firefly. I wish ours was a bit better. We'll be allowed to work from home as a desperate measure only, which is daft. Especially as most of us travel in on the train, so likely to be exposed to all sorts of grimness and germs!

70, I envy you your lie in!

Neros, definitely stockpile the essentials. Grin

Well done to your DD, Wreck!

Crazy, your cross stitch looks great! Your work could probably do better though (like mine!).

We're allowed to finish at 3.30 today, which is nice. I've got a conference with a Barrister at 3, so we're going to have a proper drink afterwards. He said he'd keep me for a coffee, then when I said we were finishing early he upgraded it to alcohol! 😂

I'm still feeling a bit iffy. It's all concentrated on my head really and I've no temp. I only cough when subjected to change of air temp really, so no need to self isolate!

Boots, sorry, I forgot your anniversary yesterday. Happy anniversary! I hope you get joy from your grow bags! Grin Did you have an alcoholic beverage last night?!

Sorry if I missed anyone. So much catching up to do! Blush

Sorry Mrs, I've been typing for 15 minutes! Grin

In gardening news I have 9 cucumber seedlings already as well as a cucamelon and maybe some leeks! The lemongrass hasn't been as quick as last year though, so I hope it comes up (the ones which were doing well in the poly were trashed when it disintegrated in the high winds Sad).

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 13/03/2020 07:23

Morning everyone. Hoorah for Friday.

Thanks for the end of training/days off wishes I am so ready for them now. I felt sorry for the trainers yesterday it was obvious we were worn out and fidgety and not really up for it.

It is sunny and rainy here this morning. Going to look out for a rainbow on the way to drop my daughter off then onto work.

Mrsmadevans · 13/03/2020 07:32

Fluffy just waved Dd2 off to work complete with instructions, lozenges , throat spray , gargle with warm salty water, drink plenty, take soup , hand gel, tissues, paracetamol, cold flu & sure throat capsules. I think I have it sorted 😁
So glad you are doing ok 💐🤗
Why not long now hope you find your pot of gold 🤗🌈🏳️‍🌈🌈
Better shift bath awaits 🤗
