Morning!

New thread for our 'bonus' day today.

It's the anniversary of our gran dying today; she was a brilliant lady. Very young at heart. ❤️❤️ Very knowledgeable too.

It's windy today, isn't it? We have a Spanish-named storm coming across.

I think corona is concerning in the sense that any potential pandemic is concerning generally. And, as I said, I'm not that keen on being quarantined for a fortnight or more!

I also don't trust our government to act in our best interests over the whole thing.

Anyway, kids' party with DS today. Wooooo!

I know you have concerns re: smart motorways - BBC are reporting that Highways England have confirmed that not all SM CCTV cameras are continuously monitored. 38 deaths in 5 yrs Shock the "dynamic" ones are "too complicated" to use. 17mins to be noticed that you've has to stop in a "live" lane and another 17mins to be "rescued".
See if it makes it to their website - figures were from an FOI request.

Doing some more planting later Grin we bought a couple of pieris from the local tiny garden centre yesterday.

NerosFiddle · 09/03/2020 09:17

Boots I saw that this morning too. They showed a video of a van nearly crashing into a car that had stopped. Shocking!

Dh forgot his wallet this morning so he's in a while panic. He's working 2 hours away so I can't drive it up to him.

It's that fine rain that soaks you through here Grin. I was hoping to paint our house sign today but no point now.

pussycatinboots · 09/03/2020 10:06

Neros has he got some lunch? train fare/petrol to get home? if yes, then he'll survive.
I'd take a rain-check on the painting too, a drippy sign won't look great.
Lazy rain is as bad as lazy wind Grin
I won't use the M6 or 56 any more. I think the 53 is safe at the mo, but a lot is only 2 lanes and you can't easily widen it.
It's a scandal that it has taken so many deaths to prove what a dangerous waste of money the whole project has been - and they're still working on new sections Shock

NerosFiddle · 09/03/2020 11:59

Boots no lunch but he was able to put petrol in his car through Apple Pay. So no big deal. It's a small village he had to go to so it's 50/50 if he can use his phone to buy lunch. Either way I'm sure he'll be fine.

EmrysAtticus · 09/03/2020 12:12

Welcome back Nero!

Coronavirus has hit Newport now.

pussycatinboots · 09/03/2020 13:08

He won't starve Grin but he might be hangry when he gets home.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/03/2020 17:20

Boots, those 'smart' motorways are just lethal. We went along the M6 on Friday where it's 'smart'. I was glad to get off for that reason too!

Neros, I hope your DH isn't too hungry! He'll learn his lesson, I'd think. 😂

It's chucking it down here now. Grim. I've told DH I need collecting from the station with my two packs of loo roll!

Well you don't want to get them wet! Grin

Work have sent a questionnaire around today asking what work we can do from home, how long can we manage without admin support/printing things off. I reckon they're going to look at either getting us to work from home, or telling the secretaries not to come in as they're in a communal area and those of us with our own offices can effectively isolate ourselves in there.

DS is currently reading his book in his bedroom doorway by the landing light. I used to do it myself when I was younger, so I'd feel like a hypocrite telling him off...

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 09/03/2020 19:36

Good evening. Another training day down with four to go. The chairs are so uncomfortable I am going to take the cushion I have brought for the office to sit on tomorrow.

Today was filled with weird deep breathing exercises to relax and team building exercises where the person leading the team had a strop and gave up leading.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/03/2020 19:38

Firefly, DD reads for ages in bed; she's been known to read about half a book (stuff like The Faraway Tree-type length). It's funny!

Printing is a funny one for me as some clients don't have email addresses. Most do though. Trial bundles would be impossible, however (my next Trial is end of April).

Why I hate team building things.

HR have messed up stuff at work so I've been trying to sort that today.

Our neighbour our has a son (10) who has a complete meltdown every night from about 7 often until gone 11. He swears, slams doors, kicks things, shouts and screams. I know it must be awful for his (lovely) parents but we had absolutely had enough of it. It's been going on for years. It stops the dc from getting to sleep, wakes me up and winds DH up so much when he's trying to relax in the evening. There's obviously nothing we can do and my neighbour does message to apologise but sometimes I just want to go round and tell him to shut the f up Angry

I can print stuff from home to my old office and it'll just come out of the printer because it's on a separate network to the trusts but all other printers require you to log on with a code before it prints. I can't do anything from home though because unless I've been out to see children I have no notes to write up.

Mrsmadevans · 09/03/2020 20:09

Evening everyone Smile
EM Crazy this Coronavirus is getting a bit near us my liking Shock
Have stocked up on loo rolls today . No hand gel to be found so it's hand washing for me Hmm
Fluffy those 'smart' motorways are lethal. I can't believe they are still allowed !

Mrsmadevans · 09/03/2020 20:14

Why l hate team building exercises too they are so cringeworthy.
Wreck that is awful for you all does he have Autism or ADHD?
Firefly Girl that is so sweet , of course you can't tell him off bless him Smile
Nero poor Dh hope he managed to get some luch after Smile

WreckTangled · 09/03/2020 20:20

Mrs no diagnosis and nothing that would jump out at me apart from anger issues (not that I'm dismissing anger issues).

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 09/03/2020 20:35

This week's exercise was that we were in the Antarctic and had to build a shelter. The team leader had frost bite and could not use their hands. Four were blinded by snow and four could not speak for unknown reasons.

I was wearing a blindfold and someone kept bellowing at me to stick things down when I could not see a thing. That got boring quickly.

I actually got my work laptop to work out the office today Wreck which is a first.

Mrsmadevans · 09/03/2020 21:12

Why what a load of rubbish , l hate things like that Hmm
We had to talk to a stranger for 2 mins and then repeat what they told us Hmm which is ok if you are both nice happy chatty ppl but it you are with a stuck up Ahole its not much fun. In fact the team building went so badly l moved my chair to another team and no one said a word to me Grin
Wreck have they tried a reward chart with stickers Grin. No l am joking they need to try to get to the bottom of it , he can't be happy behaving like that .

Morning!

It's back to wild outside today! Because we've not had enough wind. 🙄

Why, I hate exercises like that. I'm sure that in corporate land somebody thinks they're useful. Nobody in the real world agrees, however!

I can send work to a printer when I'm at home, so if it's only me isolating, somebody could get it in the post for me. If the whole office was out there'd be more of an issue!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 10/03/2020 06:43

Morning. Mrs and Fluffy I hate them as well. I preferred the building a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows that we did last week.

I have my cushion ready for today. The chairs are horrendous. I just want the service to open now. Not that I think it will be easy sailing but so we can see what our jobs are 😂

WreckTangled · 10/03/2020 07:11

I've woken up with a headache Angry have got a really busy day too. My own fault for eating crap yesterday, I've been so bad recently I just can't stop! 🐷

NoWordForFluffy · 10/03/2020 07:13

I've got a headache too, Wreck. I woke too early so it's a tiredness one for me!

We have some training at lunch time so I'm not getting a break (I am being fed though). I'm less than impressed that they've forgotten that we're entitled to a break. I might just take one afterwards!

Mrsmadevans · 10/03/2020 07:55

Morning everyone 😀
Seems like team building exercises may work as they make the ppl who have to do them universally hate them 🤣
Hope your headaches are better soon , Wreck & Fluffy
Dd2 has a sore throat but no fever or cough, no aching or headache so she has a cold l think , she's gone to work anyway 🙄🤞😁
Am worrying about the Coronavirus now, it seems like there is nothing anyone can really do about it and no one knows how it is going to affect ppl. I get the impression that we are all going to get it that we don't get immunity from it once we do have it and recovered .

Have l got that right?
Looks ok out quite warm but rained all night and eleven flood warnings in place ! Hey ho better get the canoe out 😀

FireflyGirl · 10/03/2020 13:08

I coughed and pulled a muscle in my stomach so woke myself and DH up at 3.30 this morning, then obviously couldn't get back over. I am exhausted... 😴

We're getting more emails about Coronavirus at work - a co-worker's friend's co-worker has just tested positive, and she saw the friend over the weekend, so she's self-isolating. Work are supplying antibacterial wipes and spray in communal areas, and we're being asked to take our laptops home with us every evening now, just in case.

I think they are expecting most people to get it, MrsM, but it won't be serious for most of them. If DD2 doesn't have a fever or a cough, it's likely to just be a cold 🤞

Your mum and Bob, and your elderly neighbour, would be at risk of being very poorly if they caught it though, because of their age and health issues. If it were me, I would be telling DD2 not to visit your mum and suggesting to your mum (and the others, if it's appropriate) that she stay indoors and not go to knit and natter/dance class (does she still go? I can't remember you mentioning it recently) for a couple of weeks until it's clearer how this is going to pan out.

How's your training, Fluffy? On a day like today, it's probably better to be inside and fed!

It's DS's birthday on Friday, and the first two years the weather was nice enough that we had a party at home with the kids in the garden! Party is currently booked for 2 weeks on Saturday, we'll see how that goes 😷

pussycatinboots · 10/03/2020 18:44

Firefly It's my birthday (and Wedding anniversary) on Thursday Smile I picked the date so DH only had one to forget HmmGrin he has history for that, but so did my parents

I like being a day dreamy pisces Smile even though I really should have spent more time at school trying to learn my times tables Blush
Been shopping this morning. Saw a sign about 5 bags of pasta per customer at Tesco (they only had half a dozen left). They've no soap/anti-bac handwash. Everything else (inc loo rolls) seems fine including alcohol even if they have put Whiskas up by £1 per big box since the weekendAngry

WreckTangled · 10/03/2020 19:13

I can't get the cat food we usually get from amazon and our hand gel order went missing at work Angry we have none.

My old manager has recommended me for a functional skills course in maths as I didn't quite get a C (couldn't find my calculator for the calculator test, I was never going to pass it without one!) so I'm going to try and get on it.
