Morning!

New thread for our 'bonus' day today.

It's the anniversary of our gran dying today; she was a brilliant lady. Very young at heart. ❤️❤️ Very knowledgeable too.

It's windy today, isn't it? We have a Spanish-named storm coming across.

I think corona is concerning in the sense that any potential pandemic is concerning generally. And, as I said, I'm not that keen on being quarantined for a fortnight or more!

I also don't trust our government to act in our best interests over the whole thing.

Anyway, kids' party with DS today. Wooooo!

fluffy may I pick your brains?
How long does a will made "in anticipation of marriage" stay valid after marriage IYSWIM? We made ours (mirror) 15yrs ago, but it's our 8th WA next week (on my birthday) so do we need to do new ones or are they ok?
The solicitor I saw about probate for mum said something about enduring power of attorney but I must admit I had DH ill (hospital) at the time and didn't give it head space.

PJ I hate football!

Mrs I think they should live in sin GrinShock or get married and leave their wills alone (that should suitably piss off your evil siblings Wink)
My cats don't talk, they complain, they demand, they chat, they talk in their sleep and they luffs me when there's a tin of tuna in one hand an a tin opener in the other GrinGrin

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 13:09

PJ I've changed my mind, I quite like football now Football

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 13:24

Ahh thank you everyone Smile
Mum is content with things as they are, so we will have to see what happens but it is lovely for her and things are not insurmountable even with family disagreements . End of, they are both of sound mind, it is their money, their lives . I don't have a problem with it at all. Mum has been so unhappy this has given her a new lease fo life Smile
Off the back of you all cleaning and cooking Grin l have cleaned the bathroom and dusted and hoovered the bedrooms Grin so thank you for shifting me lol.
Fluffy they will sort the legal side if they did happen to wed , l don't know if they will , we will have to see. I agree with you re the legal side of things being sorted though it really needs to be done before they marry. If they do. We shall see . I know one thing there will be a huge fallout over this with my sister and brother if they do marry Grin .
70 nothing is arranged, she hasn't even said yes Grin I wish they could tbh it would be lovely for them both. I do worry about one of them dying and leaving the other but you can't live your life like that .
Wreck well done on the food prep , you are a better woman than me!
Dd2 gone to Cardiff for the rugby and the beer Grin, l gave her hand gel to use just in case , well you never know .
I am wondering how bad this Coronavirus is tbh . I am not worried but all the furore is making me think & wonder what the real situation is Confused

EmrysAtticus · 07/03/2020 13:26

We managed to removed one boot full (estate car with back seats down so a big boot) of rubbish from the allotment so happy with that progress for today :)

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 13:32

Pussy why the change of heart over the footie?
The cats don't need to talk they already have us by the short & curlies Grin
Am off to knit and nat now, have a good afternoon everyone Grin

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 13:35

Mrs we were 1-0 down, but Salah and Mane scored so I'm happy again Grin

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 13:36

Em Dh took 5 green grass bags full of connifer cuttings and grass cuttings after cleaning up after the conifers were cut and mowing the lawn . He took it to the tip this morning. I think he is knackered now , he mumbled something about 'getting old and grumble, grumble , feeling exhausted now' Grin
Better shift to knit n nat speak ltr Grin

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 13:37

Ahhh l understand now lol Grin

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 13:40

Dd1 sent me this, skip the ads Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/03/2020 14:39

Ahh though i think my cats would pretend to fall asleep to stop me playing any music Psst roll over and snore and the old bat will stop

My female cat walks over my arm when I'm online , sits on my arm (the memory of the feeling of the cat's bum on my skin would need to be erased by fire) . Then she does the bitey-skin-lift-thing

FireflyGirl · 07/03/2020 15:09

T-Cat hates everyone, apart from when he's hungry (and sometimes even then).

R-Cat is an attention whore, and will get it wherever he can. He has been known to lay on the books DS and I are reading, and trample across our games. He's currently out probably getting it from her down the road.

MrsM I think the expectation is that most of the population will get it at some point. Some will be asymptomatic, most won't be any more ill than with normal cold/flu, and the main risk is to elderly people and/or those with pre-existing conditions. The precautions the government are considering are to try and delay the peak of cases until the summer when the NHS isn't already overloaded with the usual winter illnesses.

WreckTangled · 07/03/2020 15:16

I think with Coronavirus a lot of it is because it's new and really we don't know what we're dealing with. It's great that it doesn't seem to be badly affecting children but they've already got a 3.4% mortality rate compared to 0.1% for flu. Yes more people die from flu each year blah blah blah (I'm fed up of hearing that) but percentage wise it's much worse it just hasn't managed to infect the same amount of people yet. Also it's the fact that the NHS won't be able to cope with all these ill people there's simply not enough beds so how are they going to get around that? I'll be OK because I have loo roll Grin I'm concerned for my grandparents and mum though.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/03/2020 15:21

Boots, if your Will doesn't have the explicit wording of 'in anticipation of marriage' then it becomes void on marriage which is usually fine if you're leaving it to your spouse anyway (depending on the estate value), but not so fine if you're not.

If you're concerned about them not being valid and you have specific wishes other than what would happen if you died intestate then you should seek legal advice.

I don't know enough beyond the above really, so if you're concerned you should speak to a solicitor who specialises in such things!

Maybe living in sin would be the best bet really though, in your mum's situation. See how it goes and not get legally tricky!

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 16:37

Fluffy It def says "in anticipation of marriage", I've dug them out and checked after I posted. We'll leave everything to each other anyway, but I'll get them updated.

Firefly "attention whore" yep, gotcha, mine will sit on the coffee table or the laptop or a half finished jigsaw Hmm occasionally in front of the TV springwatch has a lot to answer for the other stakes out the ensuite, so has to be fed dreamies while I have a pee Blush

Do any of you move your foot as your cat approaches to make them jump in the air? or is it just me Wink

Wreck DH has decided he isn't going "out" from now on, other than a walk, to reduce his risk. He's happy to send me for bread etc...Hmm maybe I am expendable then?

WreckTangled · 07/03/2020 16:47

Our cat wouldn't even notice if you moved your foot Grin or if he did he wouldn't care one bit. I'm not going to avoid going out but I won't be going to any crowded events any time soon (not that I had any planned...)

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 17:01

It's too easy to spook ours, especially when it's dark - they spring into the air then walk nothing to see here Grin
I think the "underlying/pre-existing health conditions" line got to DH. I think he's a bit worried.

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 17:45

Crazy & Mrs I'm guessing you are watching the rugby from behind the sofa.
Crazy did you ask about shade loving plants yesterday I forgot to reply ? I think salad stuff will cope with shade - little gem lettuce, red chard etc. that and a few herbs would be a good starter project.

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 18:23

Not watching the rugger @Pussy Grin
Just watched project runway series 18 episode 12 Grin
I don't watch the rugger , it has been ruined for me by my sister. She and her Dh used to come to ours every match, for about 15 years, we were never invited to their house to watch it . Sometimes it was 2 matches and then they would stay all day , he is English and if Wales won he was awful, sulked and showed off and if Wales lost he was arsy arrogant and boasting and we just weren't like that with him or anyone else. She used to say 'shush' to me all the time . I remember her pouring scorn on me and l actually felt frightened of her , it was as if she had hit me l used to mentally flinch she was so horrible. Hence l don't watch it now at all . She has ruined it for me . Dd2 has free tickets for the matches and she gives them to her friends because l can't bear going to see them with Dh Hmm. It has awfully negative conotations for me . I would almost say l have been traumatised by her at these matches in my own home . She used to ridicule me and pour scorn on everything l said. So l never watch it now Sad

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 18:25

My Dh is the opposite Pussy he thinks it's all hype re the virus , there isn't anything else to put on the news Hmm

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 18:33

Sorry Mrs Flowers
That bloody sister of yours, she's done a right job on you.

WreckTangled · 07/03/2020 18:37

Mrs that's horrible Sad

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 18:43

Ahhh thank you Pussy Smile
I repeated what l wrote to my Dh just now and he said every word was the truth. he's a real piece of work Sad
Let's not dwell though nor on this damn Coronavirus , there isn't much we can do except take precautions and be sensible. The vast majority of us will be fine . My Dh reckons it's natures way of saving th eplanet Hmm , l don't know why he is saying that because with his Atrial Fib he will be a possible target too!

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 18:45

Thank you Wreck Smile

pussycatinboots · 07/03/2020 19:07

Next yr - because I can't see the 6 Nations being concluded for a long time - you, DDs and DH should go to the game. Just to spite the cow.

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2020 20:33

Ahh thank you Pussy that is so kind of you Flowers
