Am I the only one who prefers the warm white Xmas lights. Why have we gone cold white in the uk. Am in the Netherlands now and it is all warm white. I think so much more classy. And don’t get me started on blue lights. Simply awful no?

Warm white all the way.. I actually put up some cool white ones and had to take them straight down as they were too harsh.. threw them in the bin..

Ohffs66 · 22/12/2019 08:20

Someone down the road has their house all done out in red and yellow tube style lights. It looks like a cross between a car showroom and a coca cola advert.

Warm white all the way here (or copper glow this year which is a bit more pinky). I don't mind cold white ones too much, but blue is a massive no for me, there is nothing Christmassy about them at all. Reminds me of when restaurants put those pink or blue neon tubes in recesses near the ceiling in an attempt to look modern, just looks awful!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 22/12/2019 08:28

Warm white, I think looks more elegant.

TowerRingInferno · 22/12/2019 08:33

Warm white

Dh bought some cold white lights. We had them up for 2 days then I took them down. They made my eyes hurt and were depressing to look at.

TowerRingInferno · 22/12/2019 08:35

And yes blue awful. Can’t understand why anyone would buy them

BeyondMyWits · 22/12/2019 08:37

Warm white, looks like candlelight, can't get more "retro" than that.

FairfaxAikman · 22/12/2019 08:54

Warm white all the way - looks like candlelight.

I actually think flashing blue ones should be banned - especially outdoors - as they look far too much like emergency lights.
Living in the country you get a right start of you round a corner and see a whole load of blue flashing lights on a pitch black road.

Expo · 22/12/2019 15:57

On my way back to the UK to my cosy warm white lights! Shame I will have to endure a blue light emergency ambulance at the end of my road as I approach Xmas Grin

Warm white.
For years I wouldn't touch coloured lights but now really like them.
I think it's because the white lights have become so commonplace.
I really don't like blue lights.

CountFosco · 22/12/2019 23:35

OK, having gone for a walk to chevk out tge lights I have a new colour to hate. Red is nice and Christmassy isn't it? Ha, some neighbours have covered their tree in red lights. It looks like the Christmas Tree of Horror. Not at all Christmassy. Shudder.

user137473 · 22/12/2019 23:59

Yes. I rant about this every year to DH several times, and he just looks at me like Hmm.

My favourite used to be warm white, and DH and I would take turns choosing the tree lights because he preferred coloured lights. Then I found a cheap hardware store that sold the retro soft coloured bulb lights., and they were even better than warm white. They don't last though. And the hardware store closed down, and I've often had trouble sourcing them. This year I got some from Amazon, they look great, but we have already had one bulb blow, and that was a pain the fix. I'm worried they won't last the rest of the year now. I'm interested to see the pastel LED ones.

My order is:
warm, bulb coloured lights.
Warm white
Red (a neighbour has plain red on the tree every year and it's odd but sort of nostalgic...and better than blue)
Bright white
...
...
Led multi colour
Blue

Warm vs Cold white Christmas lights
CrowleysBentley · 23/12/2019 01:44

Warm white here, nice and cosy, cold white gives me a headache. Plus our place can get a bit cold, definitely don't need cold lighting making it feel colder!

RhythimIsRhythim · 23/12/2019 07:15

Absolutely warm white. It reminds me of candlelight. So welcoming and inviting, dispels the winter cold.

70sWitch · 23/12/2019 10:28

Always preferred warm or rather "clear bulbs" as they match candlelight much better than warm leds and give a softer light. Same with the coloured bulbs. You can still get them in sets up to 400 .
Hate the new led coloured lights. Just way too harsh.

Noma still do their pickwick and Canterbury Belles lights with shades eBay and Amazon have them
They do (and always did) have blue bulbs but it's a nice, almost turquoise, blue. I have 2 sets of vintage Canterbury Belles and one new set and you can't tell the difference.

I don't mind cool white in the right place. But I've never liked blue leds
And blue flashers are an abomination.

I have a small set of red lights on my wreath but never on a whole tree. That's too much.

CountFosco · 23/12/2019 12:07

Red lights on a wreath is lovely, we saw a red star on our walk last night and that was nice and we actually have a set of red lights that we put in the fireplace in our bedroom but a red tree? Too much.

spiderlight · 23/12/2019 15:34

We have old-style coloured incandescent bulb lights on the tree and warm white lights on our very festive yucca plants in the front garden. Warm white is so much nicer - I really do not like eye-bleedingly bright cold white, and whoever decided blue lights were Christmassy was insane - they're just harsh and horrible.

Oldraver · 23/12/2019 16:32

Neither, multi-coloured all the way.

Our close had mostly white lights or blue and white

We've got some icicle white and multi-coloured outside

One of our neighbour has red lights

labazsisgoingmad · 23/12/2019 17:43

our tree has warm white and some coloured ones too sounds odd but is a nice mix

timeforawine · 23/12/2019 18:18

Warm white here too, inside, cosier. My outside tree had cool lights

marvelousways · 23/12/2019 19:09

warm all the way! I am very proud of my warm white STATIC tree lights, warm white outdoor fairy lights, warm white icicle lights and warm white reindeer. The neighbours have blue outdor lights Shock

Expo · 24/12/2019 07:53

Am just hoping blue lights go out of fashion. Lots of people saying warm white inside and cold white outside but I still love warm white outside too. Cold white just makes the outside look....cold and harsh. That’s why from my original post I think the Netherlands looks so much nicer all in warm white.

Panicovereveryone · 24/12/2019 07:56

Warm white outside
Cool white inside

Blue is an abomination.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 24/12/2019 08:17

No sign of blue lights going out of fashion here, there seem to be more each year, I love them. Also some lovely non-traditional
combinations, I saw a tree outside a shop with pink, purple and blue yesterday, absolutely gorgeous.

MissPepper8 · 24/12/2019 13:42

We have blue lights in our street.. Three lots next to me and across from me on the house, it's those icicle lights you see. I don't like them tbh, if you have them make them more a warm gold colour.

It's like Blackpool next me, you can see the lights come through my blinds and curtains when I go to bed it's so bright.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 24/12/2019 13:50

Warm white lights look diseased to me.
