Warm vs Cold white Christmas lights

Am I the only one who prefers the warm white Xmas lights. Why have we gone cold white in the uk. Am in the Netherlands now and it is all warm white. I think so much more classy. And don’t get me started on blue lights. Simply awful no?

Warm white all the way here. It just seems nicer to me!

anxioussue · 21/12/2019 20:29

Warm white, our neighbours have blue ones outside and through frosted glass it's like an ambulance is parked outside.

Mistletoeandgrime · 21/12/2019 20:29

Yep all about the warm white here. I always think the cool white look blue anyway

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 21/12/2019 20:31

I'm absolutely with you on this!

Dcs and I have a very clear order of acceptable lights - warm white is top. Blue is bottom.

We also disagree with people mixing lights (eg. cold white on one tree, and coloured lights on another), unless they have gone to the effort of doing the whole house with Sat as and trains etc.

And yesterday, DS2 spotted a house with a tree inside with blue lights. Madness.

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 21/12/2019 20:32

Santa, not Sat as Hmm

Twittlebee · 21/12/2019 20:33

Warm all the way too!

I actually also love multicolored string lights, ones with the reds and yellows as well as the blues and greens.

I'm in a little sort of cul-de-sac and 80% of the houses have those blue and white flashing lights outside, all in the same style around their bay window and across their porch.

I was really tempted to put up warm lights in our Bush and maybe even a few, non flashy, multicolored string lights here and there too but I'm sure the neighbours would be displeased at me for ruining the cold white look of the cul-de-sac

Oh warm white mixed with cold white is the worst. They have done that in Sloane Square ffs.

Warm here too

BentNeckLady · 21/12/2019 20:36

Christmas like hierarchy:

Soft multi coloured lights ( not leds)
Warm white
White white

Blue.

Expo · 21/12/2019 20:36

@Twittlebee fully agree on the multicoloured lights too. Like those. Indeed that is my order. Warm white, multicoloured....then a big gap with cold white and blue at the bottom. But I have noticed too the recent fashion for cold white and blue flashing. Ha yes is like an ambulance.

I like warm white or coloured, never cold white.

TricksyLiesmith · 21/12/2019 20:37

Warm soft white all the way.

MissPepper8 · 21/12/2019 20:38

Odd one out, I like cool white and how they show up much brighter. I don't like mixed colours or blue.

I think I made the change from the warmer white about 2 years ago now.

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 21/12/2019 20:38

When I was a child, we had fairy lights which were multicoloured, but with no blue. They were pretty, but I can't find similar anywhere.

7Days · 21/12/2019 20:38

Where do you get the old fashioned coloured fairy lights. All I seem to find is the led coloured ones which are not nearly as nice.

IceniSky · 21/12/2019 20:38

I use to be warm white only but have switched to cool white outside, nothing they look more modern on modern houses.

Warm white only in the lounge. Colour lights on the tree in the hall for DD and kitchen. I too hate the mixing of lights in the same room etc.

hiphiphoorayback · 21/12/2019 20:38

Warm inside and cold outside. Smile

Expo · 21/12/2019 20:39

Maybe we should start a new British divide now leave and remain is done. Warm vs Cold white lights.

Dcs call out "boo for blue" when we are out Christmas light spotting.

ineedto · 21/12/2019 20:40

Warm white. Bright give me a sore head.

Aldi do a nice retro set. I have some on a real tree and they look lovely.

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 21/12/2019 20:41

@expo I'm up for that. I thought it was just my little family. Great to find kindred spirits Grin

MamehaSan · 21/12/2019 20:41

Definitely warm white!

I was walking home this afternoon and spotted a tree in someone's window that had a mixture of warm and cold white lights. Yes really, on the same tree Shock
