Am I the only one who prefers the warm white Xmas lights. Why have we gone cold white in the uk. Am in the Netherlands now and it is all warm white. I think so much more classy. And don’t get me started on blue lights. Simply awful no?

Warm, replaced all my lights with warm this year. I think they look lovely and cosey Xmas Smile

FruityWidow · 21/12/2019 22:37

Depends where they are going. Cold white for outdoors like ice/snow and warm white indoors like candlelight.

QueenAnneBoleyn · 21/12/2019 22:37

I like warm lights. DH likes cold lights.
Compromise is warm lights inside the house and in the back garden. Cold lights out the front of the house.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 21/12/2019 22:40

I loathe blue lights.

We bought new lights a couple of years ago, 2 sets as we have a reasonable size tree, unfortunately though the boxes were the same the lights were not! So we have warm and cold white lights on the tree all mixed together and also red ones too, 800 in all!

NightsOfCabiria · 21/12/2019 22:42

It’s not just you OP.

I’ll leave this here:

Xmas Grin

When you see blue flashing lights, you know to expect the worst.
It's the colour of anti-heroin train station toilets.

shiningstar2 · 21/12/2019 22:44

Confused Xmas Confused have just bought a new tree with lights from John Lewis. Have no clue whether they are cold or warm white. Definitely not blue thought Xmas Smile

MamaWeasel · 21/12/2019 22:49

I absolutely love rather like blue lights Bear

whatswithtodaytoday · 21/12/2019 22:52

Warm white all the way. Cold white are unfriendly and blue make my eyes hurt, I don't understand why people like them.

Expo · 21/12/2019 22:54

@NightsOfCabiria that article is so true. Blue is not Christmassy.

Can the blue lovers explain what they like about them? I literally cannot think why on earth anyone would like them, they just so utterly hideous in every way.

Celebelly · 21/12/2019 23:00

Warm white for sure! Looks much cosier and festive. This year we got lights that can be both warm white and multicoloured. I've always had white lights on my tree but now DD is here I thought coloured might be nice for her. And actually I'm really getting to like the multicoloured lights too! There's something really cheerful about them.

LegArmpits · 21/12/2019 23:02

Poundstretcher do non-LED ones with the old colours.

NightsOfCabiria · 21/12/2019 23:08

Anyone remember Melania Trump’s red xmas trees from last year? Xmas Shock

hiphiphoorayback · 21/12/2019 23:10

The pastel colours are so much nicer than the usual LED colours!

Yes they are lovely aren't they

NightsOfCabiria · 21/12/2019 23:11

Xmas Shock They look like massive traffic cones.

Warm vs Cold white Christmas lights
wellthatwasthat · 21/12/2019 23:13

Definitely prefer warm white.

Lucindainthesky · 21/12/2019 23:14

Warm white.

For retro style ones, you can actually colour in plain LEDs with sharpies. It's really effective. I have a set on our tree which has red, pink, orange, pale blue, pale green. So much nicer than the standard bright red/blue/green LEDs.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/12/2019 23:17

Cold white here as our living room has a cold colour scheme. It works really well.

MiniMum97 · 21/12/2019 23:22

I prefer cold white in the tree. We usually have cold white static, cold white twinkling and red berry. Looks lovely. Although the last red berry set we got were LEDs and not as nice. Perhaps cold white LEDs would probably be too harsh I think.

I like blue lights too but only outside.

We have done lovely warm lights in hessian stars on our window cill.

I think I am a fan of all lights!

CountFosco · 21/12/2019 23:37

We've got warm white on the main tree in the front room with the explosion of colourful decorations (about 50% made by the kids) but blue white on the little tree in the back room. My tasteful glass decorations are all silver, gold and blue so it all looks beautiful. Can't say it was deliberate though, it was only when I switched the lights on together that I realised there was a colour difference.

Blue is my favourite colour and I loved the secularness of blue lights when they first came out. Now they are ubiquitous and tacky, just like coloured lights were considered to be in the 90s. Changes in fashion isn't it, nothing more or less.

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 21/12/2019 23:47

The whole point of lighting is ambience and mood and low lighting.

These new led lights from cars lamps glaring you down to bright harsh mini strip lights on trees are ruining it!!

MadisonAvenue · 21/12/2019 23:47

The trees in the living rooms have warm white and I wanted to put multi-coloured lights on the tree outside but one of the living room trees can be seen from there too and I didn’t want a mix so I used another set of warm white out there.

We’ve put icicle lights over the garage, which can’t be seen from the front of the house so no mix of light colours, and they’re cold white. Warm white icicles just seemed wrong.

I can’t stand blue lights.

Hushabyelullaby · 21/12/2019 23:56

Warm white, it makes things feel homely and welcoming. On the flip side I loathe blue as it makes things look cold an unwelcoming.

BestIsWest · 22/12/2019 08:11

We have coloured AND bright white on the same tree. Only because we have a massive new tree and didn’t have enough lights and couldn’t get a new set of warm white anywhere. Ended up chucking everything we have at it. And they all flash at different rates.
I secretly like it.

BestIsWest · 22/12/2019 08:12

Colouring in with sharpies? Genius. That’s my afternoon sorted.
