70s Christmas

Hi.
DH and I are doing a 70s themed Christmas this year. We're ridiculously excited about it actually. Grin.

Now, I've been getting the decorations in bit by bit. No problems with vintage fairy lights, baubles, foil garlands, daft looking fairies etc. But I cannot seem to find a silver tinsel tree ANYWHERE.

And I really want one.

Am I too early in the year? Does anyone have any idea where I might find what I'm after? All I've been able to find is tiny 2ft ones. I want 5ft at LEAST.

Te the hedgehog, it probably doesn't matter what you use, pick whatever the size you want is, I think a potato might be more difficult to put cocktail sticks, and 1970s cocktail sticks used to be plastic and shaped like swords.

We also ,ade some tree decs by wrapping matchboxes in foil and then putting ribbon round like little parcels.

Just have to say I am absolutely loving this thread! And the little Babycham reindeer danglies are so cute!

Aqua Manda was the first perfume I ever bought. I was about 14 and had a Saturday job, God knows how much I paid for it or what I'd think of the smell now.

When I was about 17 I switched to Babe, made by Faberge and advertised by the late Margaux Hemingway.

70switch can't help with an RT but for Xmas Day running order check out BBC Genome. It has listings for radio and tv from 1923.

Aqua Manda was what an aunt liked as a Christmas Present. I have no idea what it smells like but it still reminds me of her.

I got it confused with a pomander. Push lots of cloves into an orange until the whole thing is covered in cloves. Then put it in the airing cupboard to dry out. It's for putting in your drawers. As in chest of drawers please people !

MissDew · 15/08/2019 11:33

See if you can buy a, 'Top of the pops' compilation L.P. they produced one every year in the seventies. Probably in previous and future decades too.

Find some of those old, 'Ronco' adverts. It will make today's nicer dicer etc etc etc utensils seem sophisticated.

Then see if you can find the comedy piss take of the adverts with someone complaining that they can't see the back of their own head. So, Ronco have produced this long narrow tube, about two feet long that goes over the back of your head. It's has mirrors inside it so you can see the back of your head.

70sWitch · 15/08/2019 11:33

Have saved the page Starbucks. Thanks Smile

That cat scared me more than the things they were warning us about.

TheBigBallOfOil · 15/08/2019 18:42

What about the smash adverts with the contemptuously chortling robots??

NoWordForFluffy · 15/08/2019 19:25

I'm pretty sure our hedgehog was a spud!

70sWitch · 15/08/2019 23:30

That Smash ad is a favourite of DH. Smile.

The one thing I KNOW I'm getting, however (whether I like it or not) is a Wombling Merry Christmas.

Man loves his Wombles. Xmas Hmm

You should pop round here to borrow stuff. I have some cocktail sticks that are little swords, and a record player. And some glasses with green stems.

iklboo · 17/08/2019 22:29

You need one of these for your sideboard.

And a hostess trolley.
