Christmas Villages - do you have one?

Can I see your Christmas village please? I love Christmas villages but only have space for a small scene. Mine is Christmas Carol themed as my houses have the names Scrooge and Marley, Cratchit, Butcher and Candles above their doors. I also have Scrooge and Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim figures. The billboard carrier is advertising a showing of A Christmas Carol.

That's lovely (and not particularly small). I would show you mine but you'd need to wait another fortnight. Mine is an all in one piece and is a village square scene.

Nanalisa60 · 02/12/2018 09:56

I think it’s very nice and if your happy that all that counts but I’m afraid a Christmas village is not for me!! Would be a boring world if we all liked to same thing!! Enjoy your Christmas

Puddelchen · 02/12/2018 11:07

I think Christmas villages must be quite popular judging by the price second hand figures and buildings go for on eBay. It’s a piece of escapism I guess.

You should see the size of some of the ones in the US! I guess they have more room in their bigger homes.

Oh I would love one of those!

I remember when I was a child I used to have a lot of farmyard toys - farmhouse, barn, animals etc. One year with my sisters help we turned it in to a nice Christmas scene with cotton wool snow and an upturned jam jar lid to make a frozen pond.

Where do you get your village? Is it bought as a set or do you collect individual pieces?

I bought the houses second hand on eBay. The figures are by Lemax. Lemax do houses too but very expensive. I got my 4 houses for half the price of one new Lemax one.

I'm not sure it counts but I have some bits from the Lego Winter Village range. Haven't built it yet this year so I don't have a photo. It's not a traditional Christmas village but I love it. I'd love a proper one too, maybe one day!

Puddelchen · 03/12/2018 07:06

The Lego village definitely counts. Sounds like fun.

I want one but I fell in love with this company and their prices are eye watering

I collectedd the nativity set over the years so I always promise myself to start on the village. Maybe in 20 years I have one.

My sister has just started collecting the lemax Christmas Village range. There is a garden centre close to us that sell alot of them, definitely cheaper online though. Love going to see them all put together in village set ups.

Puddelchen · 03/12/2018 11:08

Reluctantbrit I have a confession to make, I have a second village from the Erzgebirge in Germany, see my photo, and yes, it cost an arm and a leg.

I love your German village Puddelchen! Your house must look so festive with all those villages set up.

WheelchairWoes · 03/12/2018 23:32

I only have one house in my village so it's more a forest but I hope to find and buy some village houses and people soon! I'm trying to find some nice village houses that I like. There is a really nice wind mill one that I really want

Musttryharder that Lego one is brilliant and you get the joy of building it every year if you want to, or leaving it intact. What fun!

I have been obsessed with Xmas villages for so long, it's a standing joke with my family. My obsession stems from childhood christmases in Germany where so many homes had lichthaus displays. I cannot believe how popular they've become over here now, I'm giddy with excitement going into garden centres at this time of year.
I collect the German ceramic lichthauser which I've only been able to get from German markets before but I've noticed some of the Christmas markets over here have started to do them too. I will post my display next week once I've been to a Christmas market in Belgium at the weekend (and will hopefully be adding to my collection).

This is ours. DH loves it, it's his task to build it each year. These 3 photos are from 2015, 2016 and 2017. You can see how it's increased in size every year.
