Christmas Villages - do you have one?

Can I see your Christmas village please? I love Christmas villages but only have space for a small scene. Mine is Christmas Carol themed as my houses have the names Scrooge and Marley, Cratchit, Butcher and Candles above their doors. I also have Scrooge and Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim figures. The billboard carrier is advertising a showing of A Christmas Carol.

I did not know this was a thing until I watched that terrible film on Chanel 5 earlier!

Clutterfreeintraining - go shopping to a garden centre on dec 27th when all the sales start! That way it's still 2018 and you don't ruin your no spend 2019.

Clutterfreeintraining · 07/12/2018 21:02

Figment - thanks for the suggestion. And I suppose if I spend my Christmas money it wouldn't really count as a spend anyway would it Grin I just have to get over the trauma of going sales shopping!!

Just a suggestion for you all, look at cake decorations to add interest to your villages. In this photo the Merry Christmas road sign and the street lamps are both cake decorations by Anniversary House, available on eBay and Amazon.

Now that is a genius idea Puddel!

3luckystars · 08/12/2018 09:47

That is so lovely @Puddelchen.

I keep coming back to this thread. I love the villages, i really would like to start one now. I love the pictures here!!!

Please can anyone advise me where to start? I love the little lights and can build it up over a few years.
Did you all start with one and then just add to it?
I have seen a few brands mentioned here, are these out of my league expensive, would i be better off waiting until January?

Puddelchen · 08/12/2018 10:01

3lucky
I bought all the houses for my Christmas Carol village on eBay for £16 in total, delivered. So much cheaper than the Lemax ones. I think I struck lucky there. The people were second hand Lemax from eBay, still not cheap but better than buying new. Bottle brush trees are very cheap on eBay if you are happy to buy them from Chinese sellers, they take around a month to arrive .
As I said in a previous comment, the white runner was under £2 from eBay.

Bottle brush trees in various sizes are all available at hobbycraft. They also do little wooden houses if that’s your thing?

3luckystars · 08/12/2018 10:47

Brilliant. I will start so and hopefully will be able to post next year. Thsnks for the great thread.

Angelinthenight · 08/12/2018 10:50

Aww these are so cute, loved looking at everyones pic's. X

3luckystars · 08/12/2018 10:53

(Christmas 2019, I am imagining the whole kitchen table covered with a hugely elborate winter village scene with ice skaters and moving smurfs, with tiny lights and an operational cable car lifting skiers up the mountain) meanwhile we will all have to eat our dinner on lap trays because the table will be cordoned off and i will have remortgaged the house.

How about this one from Google 3luckystars?

For cross stitchers amongst you, this month’s Cross Stitcher magazine has charts and instructions to make a Christmas house. It looks beautiful. More charts can be found on Pinterest.

Just looked at the Hobbycraft wooden houses online, they come with led lights and just need staining or painting. They are only £3 each and get brill reviews. Wish I had room for yet another village!! It would be an alpine chalet village.

Picked up these in Tiger today after your fantastic suggestion of cake decorations ...which I think these are meant to be !

Wow hobbit, that’s just what your village needed to bring it to life. I’ve not seen that range of cake decorations, they are perfect. I’m glad you have taken some inspiration from all the lovely villages shown by the many posters. Your village will be unique, as all these villages are, just by putting your own stamp on it.

And at £2 each they were worth giving them a go although I am worried about the size of the reindeer in my village .....do you think the residents should be concerned as they are nearly as big as the houses !

Puddelchen · 08/12/2018 18:06

I wouldn’t worry too much about scale, my figures are much too big for my houses if you think about it too critically! It’s only meant to be a bit of Christmas fun.

My son (now 25 ) was bought this by my parents in Germany when he was about 6 - they are no longer with us so this has a special significance and comes out every year and he has looked after it so well. At the time the people they were travelling with were appalled that they were spending a lot of money on something for a child !

It all fits in the matchbox when put away

Hobbit, that's so cute!
Bobcat, I'm very envious of your mum's half timbered houses, they are gorgeous.

I went to my mum's house yesterday and spotted the Winter scene I swapped with her for her light-up ceramic tree. Oh, how I wished I still had that Winter scene. It looked so pretty! She did offer to swap back but I love the tree too HmmBlushGrin
