Thought I'd start a thread, so anyone planning on buying it can post any offers they see. I'm holding out for Amazon Black Friday as they had it on offer last year.

I'm in two minds still, if I should get it for dd11. She is completely obsessed with Pokemon, particularly Eevee. She has a Nintendo 2DSXL already. I did tell her it was too expensive and maybe if I found an offer I could get it but she'd get nothing else, or I could get her a few 2DS games and other presents, and she chose the second option. I wouldn't really just get her the one present though. I'm thinking of getting it anyway, and a few other smaller presents. I could ask family to buy her the 2DS games she wants. It's just so expensive, compared to presents I usually buy... my budget is usually around £200-250 for main presents and £70 on stocking.

Im playing DC Marvel Super Villains, the new Lego ones, at the moment with my 11 and 9y old. Its very therapeutic smashing all the street furniture up I must say 😁

Imustbemad00 · 29/10/2018 19:07

For a younger child (nearly 6) is it easy to use?
And do people find it’s used more as a tv console or a handheld. I’d worry about letting such a young child use it as a handheld in case it got dropped. He’s used to having an indestructible fire tablet.

Imustbemad00 · 29/10/2018 19:09

Wondering if I’d be better buying a PS4 (cheaper) and my older child would also like one, although isn’t too fussed. But I think the switch games are better for my youngest, who is the one that is actually interested in games.
My oldest just wants to be able to tell people at school she’s played fortnite I think 🙄
Is PS4 rubbish for younger kids?

calpop · 29/10/2018 20:19

You can play Fortnite on the Switch - free download like on the PS4

Has anyone seen a switch for sale in Sainsburys? Their nectar double up on points is coming soon, we have almost £220 worth & potentially could make a big saving by trading £100 worth of points for £200 worth of vouchers. If not, there should be some stores with games that you could double up on points for. Beware though, from what I've read, if you have to travel to a large superstore you need to have already shopped there in the last 6 months or something. So if anyone wants to try this, be sure to shop & swipe there before the vouchers start!

Alakazam8 · 30/10/2018 00:12

It sounds like the switch is possibly better- does it have games like the sport/dance type ones that encourage physical activity whilst playing like the wii?

calpop · 30/10/2018 03:18

Yes, many of the games are quite physical like Arms and Just Dance. I dont think yiu can buy Wiis anymore.

ALemonyPea · 30/10/2018 08:56

123 switch is a good physical game. You can also get just dance for it.

Alakazam8 · 30/10/2018 09:43

Really thinking the switch might be better. I’ll be looking for a good deal too so this thread has been really helpful.
Thanks op

Bumbumtaloo · 30/10/2018 11:30

Alakazam8 We actually got the newest Just Dance as our ‘free’ game in the bundle. Looks quite good.

incywincybitofa · 30/10/2018 22:20

Is 279 the best console price?
Also does anyone know which shops are offering just dance or 1 2 switch as bundles
Thanks

ALemonyPea · 31/10/2018 08:58

There are no bundles for those games Incy.

Costco had switches in, think they were £250ish. No game though.

NoWordForFluffy · 31/10/2018 09:45

@buckeejit, you can convert online for a few days which gets round that problem.

I converted mine the other day.

HauntedPencil · 31/10/2018 21:42

Very have an offer that you can get one on but now pay later and they credit 10% off

incywincybitofa · 01/11/2018 10:37

Smyths toys are running bundles with Labo I am quite tempted to go for the Robot bundle for DS who is 10.

BertieBotts · 01/11/2018 10:52

There's a couple of active games included with the Mario party game too. DH and I have really had fun with the dancing one on that. We haven't tried out the river rapids game yet.

HauntedPencil · 01/11/2018 12:40

I don't know whether to get the Very offer which works out around £290 with the console & FIFA or hang on

Almondio · 01/11/2018 12:44

DS 12 saved up all of his birthday and pocket money towards a Switch for a year and we have him the extra as a 'well done' for working hard at school. It's a fantastic console, he absolutely loves it, especially being a huge Zelda fan. It links to the X-box too so he can play with his brother (don't ask me how, no ideaSmile)

Lovemusic33 · 01/11/2018 14:28

I’m not sure what bundle to go for for dd, she wants the switch for the new Pokemon game which comes out next year, she has all the other Pokemon games but on her 3DS but this game will only be available on the switch (hense why she wants a switch). I can’t really buy it without a game as then she will have nothing to play Christmas Day. She’s not into fortnite of mario cart, prefers platform games. She’s 14 so doesn’t want any of the younger games. I don’t know wether to go for super smash bro, Pokemon go eve (which apparently isn’t that great) or maybe Zelda?

I went to smyths today and they have some good bundle deals but mostly with mario games or fortnite.

youngestisapsycho · 01/11/2018 14:39

Sister bought Switch direct from Nintendo. It was £279, comes with Fortnite and some Fortnite currency? Also 2 yr guarantee...

store.nintendo.co.uk/nintendo-switch-console/nintendo-switch-limited-edition-fortnite-bundle-incl.-1000-v-bucks-double-helix-bundle/11886459.html

incywincybitofa · 01/11/2018 18:09

Ds really wants zelda or Splatoon 2 which I think he's going to get.
I've found on other consoles Fifa drops in price after Black Friday
I went to Costco and currently they have console only @£269 from what I've seen cheapest console price but not the best deal. That said they may do a better Black Friday offer as an American company

HauntedPencil · 01/11/2018 21:55

I ordered the very deal, panicked and tried to cancel it but they are sending it anyway

It's worked out at £289 for the console & FIFA and £3.99 postage.

I might keep it for a week or so in the packaging to see if any other deals come up.

MnerXX · 01/11/2018 23:16

What time do the Black Friday deals start? Is it a 12.01 am kind of thing? We’ve not actually bought anything via Black Friday before!

incywincybitofa · 01/11/2018 23:25

It varies MNer some start at 00;00 others have a lead up of deals or start their deals early.
Just having BF has back fired a bit in the UK, no one likes the bun fightm and so is less common than the USA. There is also Cyber Monday the following Monday which may have deals
Argos seems to do a week of deals.
