I know we have the "Any Ponces Around?" thread but in honour of Fellatio Nelson here is the 2018 Poncetastic Thread.

OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

reindeer , it will be fine but probably lighter than usual

Last weekend we went up to see DS2 & his family and dils family. After eight vodka and homemade fudge went down very well. I made our after eight vodka yesterday and DH has hairy bikers christmas pudding rum (he prefers it to their vodka).

Tomorrow I;m making these www.nigella.com/recipes/edible-christmas-tree-decorations on wednesday we have DGS4 staying so we'll decorate them then, he's 20 months old so I'm expecting a mess

reindeermania It'll be very boozy!!!! but delicious, I used to do that deliberately for the cake AND pudding oh and mincemeat. It's a bit difficult if you're trying to cut down on alcohol intake!!!

Hope this counts as Poncetastic. Marzipan fruits, made every year. I always forget how long they take to make. Plenty more in reserve, this is just part of the hoard.

Tricky they are ADORABLE!! Very retro. Do you give them as gifts? We are going to make little truffles/Christmas puds sweets (nigella recipe)

I've marzipanned my (shop bought) cake and I'm waiting to decorate it. I'm planning to royal ice it, and make a few little penguins out of fondant to play on the snow at the top. But in Tesco's magazine they had this amazing white chocolate igloo cake (smear melted choc over a balloon to make a dome) so I'm wondering whether to try and integrate that too! We're all about the decoration here, I don't like having loads of cake left over because I just eat it (I know, that's what it's for, but I have no self control!) so I tend to buy a small shop one and go wild with the icing!

TrickyD · 18/12/2018 11:07

Thanks, Bear. Some go as gifts but most get devoured by family marzipan lovers. I had run out of Angelica, essential for strawberry stalks; asked in Tesco, "What's that? Never heard of it" . A wholefood shop had some so Christmas was saved. Xmas Grin

The white chocolate igloo failed, miserably. Two attempts and I gave up. But here's my finished cake!

Love the cake, that's fab!! Did you make the penguins bear? They look so professional, I'm in awe of anyone who can make stuff out of fondant as I am rubbish at it! It's fab.

I love, love, love the marzipan fruits as well! Result with the angelica, that reminds me of being a kid. Haven't seen
it for ages. I'm planning to make some little marzipan toadstools to decorate my Yule log, but I have got a very long to do list (as usual), so I may not get round to it!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/12/2018 19:27

Ah thanks private, yes we did make them. YouTube tutorials get me a long way!!

TrickyD · 19/12/2018 22:20

Bear, I love the way you have shaped the cake and the penguins are wonderful, especially the sliders! But they are so charming, will you have the heart to eat them?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/12/2018 22:31

Tricky I won't, because I don't like fondant, but the children will literally gouge each other's eyes for one (hence why there's so many, cuts out the arguments).

Thanks for all your lovely comments, I'm so pleased with how it's turned out.
