Morning all! I'm knackered before even starting today. It's bloody windy so kept me awake some of the night. As did DS when he came in with us just before 4!

We are heading to our first Rudolph day next week. I feel like I need to do something for it. Not sure what though! Xmas Grin

HairsprayBabe · 17/01/2018 07:12

Maybe make a list of 10 things you want to get done on the other rudolph days this year, then watch a christmas film πŸ˜‚

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/01/2018 07:24

It's not a cross country train is it. Ours takes about 3 hours and I now refuse to get on them. Work have to hire me a car of I have to go to our other office. Which is why I've only been once in 10 years Grin

Mrsmadevans · 17/01/2018 09:10

Frugal great work m'dear that has worked out splendidly for you ! It is a cross country train and goes from Abergavenny to Manchester not calling at too many places but just dire takes so long and soooooo boring.Don't start me on the toilets please!
Hairspray I think that isn't a bad idea actually lol, I think I will be shopping for pressies whether online or RL, I am trying not to do the huge present thing this year but it is difficult when you are presented with amazing bargains !! Yest they had cat mugs in Wilkos that were only 50p filled with cat treats and they were lovely, bought 2 .I have loads of mugs but the dishwasher has gone through a bit of a Chipping Sodbury time and we have lost about 6 over Christmas. It could have been the way we filled it under the influence of alcohol lol!!!
The cat treats were bits of dried jellified ham horrible and here came DH walking through the house with an open pkt , 'where did you get these from they are nice' mwahhahaahahahha. He does like raw bacon and sausages so there is no accounting for taste and I didn't worry too much because he has a cast iron stomach!!!
Fluffy hope you get through the day , lots of coffee is the way to go imho, hope you get a great sleep tonight .
No snow today here but damn cold. Have a funeral to attend am taking very elderly parents to see a friend off. I did not know the person but they are determind to attend . So that is my day !!!
Hope everyone is ok
Take care in this ice and cold.

BiddyPop · 17/01/2018 11:08

Morning all,

Did many people get a covering of white fluffy stuff making them think it was all lovely and Christmassy?!! We had a couple of big snowshowers yesterday but the ground was soaking wet from heavy rain and it wasn't utterly freezing, so while some stuck, it's all slushy and horrible.

Welcome Mary, I remember the year DD was 2 and we packed the builders out the door on 23rd December (plan had been 1st Dec!) having had an autumn where we had no back wall for about 6 weeks, no boiler for 10 weeks, and our kitchen was the sink (which moved slightly on a daily basis), the fridge and the cooker - not even a table! We were sooooo glad to see them go!!

Oh dear Mrs, I hate when the dishwasher gets ideas above its station like that - although it can be a good excuse for new mugs, as long as the ones that got chipped were the "not so favourite" old ones. Sorry to hear you have a funeral to go to, it's nice that your DPs can get there under your steam.

Today I have a meeting on risk management for most of the workday (the joys!!), and then I have to bring DD to coder dojo tonight (first time in a new DoJo so it should be interesting). I left the house in a bit of a state this morning as I slept late (much needed) but I did manage to get dinner into the oven on the timer so that is sorted. (Although, when defrosted, 2 very similar looking portions of leftover pasta/sauce to make pasta bake turned out being 1 with prawns and 1 with ham - so it will be an interesting dinner!)

January Rudolph Day plans, hmmm.... Well, I have already rolled over my spreadsheet, but literally just that, so a bit of thinking about people and what to get them would be good. I'd like to get a bit of organizing done on my crafting list, and decide what to do this year for this Christmas (presents hopefully, and I have a few things in mind for the house). And I might, as DH is away that night, watch a Christmas movie I have recorded on the Sky box (from True movies or one of those channels, so true Christmas schmaltz!!). I think I have 2 kept that I didn't have time to watch over the holidays.

Have a lovely day everyone!

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/01/2018 13:23

Afternoon all!

Sorry I’ve been mia. Work has been seriously busy and I think my thyroid Meds need upping again as I’m sleeping pretty much straight after the kids

Add to that middle sprout has scarlet fever and I’m done in.

How is everyone’s snow! As usual it’s just gale force winds and rain here

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 17/01/2018 13:26

No snow here 😭

HairsprayBabe · 17/01/2018 13:32

we had approx 17 flakes Xmas Grin

Mrsmadevans · 17/01/2018 15:24

Funeral went as well as could be expected, took the old folk shopping to Aldi's afterwards and did my elderly NDN shopping too.
When I buy stuff for myself I buy a few in hand but the old fogies seem to just buy one of everything, at least the ones I know do lol . Anyway did a good shop in case of snow so they will be fine.
No snow at all here but bitterly cold wind , been a lovely sunny day tbf.
Biddy , your past Christmas when you had the builders in sounds as if it was lovely because you had the place to yourself at last. What a huge relief for you all, l bet it was one of the best Christmas you ever spent.
I am sure your tea will taste delicious. Christmas films sound lovely for Rudolph day too.Must watch Scrooged again !
Sprout hope you feel better soon it's a tricky business these thyroid meds, I am on 150mcgs a day now and am fine on this much. Poor middle Sprout..... hope Sproutling is much better soon too.
Am just finishing off a bowl of museli and a cuppa tea, where does the time go ? We were supposed to be having a lovely walk today and here it is quarter past 3!!! Was supposed to be cleaning up parents tomoz but think l will go Friday now. Will do a nice walk instead.
Have just had a bottle of perfume delivered for my mum's birthday from Amazon, she thinks it is called 'last waltz' it is actually Davidoff Cool Water with scrawly writing on it that looks like last waltz but says cool water lol bless!
Right better go do something , hope all better soon.

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/01/2018 18:01

I’m on 75mg but only been diagnosed a year so still trying to find the right dose

Mines caused by hashimotos which doesn’t help

OP posts:
Mrsmadevans · 17/01/2018 18:43

Sprout not got that but the hypothyroidism is enough to contend with my dear let alone the Hashimotos you poor thing no wonder you are shattered . I think it is a real surprise how such a little gland is so important to the way we feel. It's unbelieveable. I do take a bit better care of myself these days though . I take vit d, and a multivit as well as my normal tablet on prescription. I walk a lot and try to keep the weight off but tbh it is really hard !

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/01/2018 19:32

I’m not even trying to lose weight at the moment. It doesn’t help im busy lol. Scouts, three kids, Work 30 hours a week and dh works shifts. It’s all fun πŸ˜‚

OP posts:
SideOrderofSprouts · 17/01/2018 19:33

And yes I never realized that little gland was so important before

NoWordForFluffy · 17/01/2018 21:03

Glad the funeral went as well as it could have done, Mrs.

Sorry you're feeling so rubbish, Sprouts. It's no fun being ill. Hopefully you can get your medication sorted. I assume you have to have regular blood tests to keep an eye on it?

We've started amassing our Nectar points for Christmas already. We took out life and home insurance with Sainsbury's and got our bonus points today. I think this year's food will be from there!

Come one come all. It’s countdown to Christmas 2018!
Mrsmadevans · 17/01/2018 22:17

Sprout you are so busy lovely I think someone with a normal thyroid would be feeling like you do !
Thank you Fluffy for the heads up re the points from Sainsbury's, to think they are worth all that much already!! Great work!

NoWordForFluffy · 18/01/2018 06:35

Thank god it's almost the weekend! I'm utterly knackered (no health issues though, thankfully).

Bloody windy overnight again, though it's calm now. There were many, many recycling bins on the floor on my way to the station. It's carnage out there with papers and bottles everywhere! Thankfully ours remained upright.

We were a bit studenty last night: next door are away, but the people who go in to look after their cats always put their bins out for them too. We're still catching up from the Christmas recycling, so DH filled their bin with our stuff! πŸ˜‚ They wouldn't mind if they knew as we get on well with them, it just feels a bit wrong!

HairsprayBabe · 18/01/2018 08:05

We are having neighbour problems atm, next door (single lady 50ish one dog) form about half 7 there is random intermittent loud banging, can't work out what it is but has been going on for a few weeks and last night didn't stop till 10ish!

Doesn't sound like shagging or DIY it is too random and stop start.... very weird, thinking of sending DP over, will start with "we heard a big bang is everything ok?"

Even weirder is the terrace is v quiet usually we have neighbours on both sides and we never ever hear them! Worried we are the loud ones

VivaJen · 18/01/2018 14:04

Afternoon All! We have had loads of snow (yay for me - I love the stuff) with more on the way. I was looking after my nephew yesterday (almost 2) and we had a great cosy day at home and he's clearly going to be as mad about Christmas as I am - he kept saying "tree.gone" and then he went and put his little Duplo Christmas tree in the corner where mine was.

According to my Rudolph Day list I've got January scheduled for sorting out the pressie shelf/cupboard and getting organised for birthdays throughout the year. I also had make sure that everything is put away properly but that's already been done.

@HairsprayBabe keep us updated! Maybe it's some form of weird keep-fit?

@Mrsmadevans your "last waltz" story made me laugh, years ago my Dad went shopping for a pressent for me and went round 3 record shops in Glasgow asking for "Beauty and the Goldfish" CDs before someone asked if he meant "Hootie and the Blowfish" Grin

Mrsmadevans · 18/01/2018 17:21

Good for you Fluffy 'waste not want not' utilise the bin space ! Hope you get a bit of shut eye and catch up over the weekend the commuting is very tiring for you my dear.
Jen .I know it is hilarious the things they come out with I laughed at your Goldfish too hehehehe.
Hairspray is it her boiler? I only ask because of the times it is happening. She may be turning the heating off at night and it coming on again in the morning and ours has been doing the exact same thing. I even asked DH and he said the same, our boiler is fine just making loud noises lol.
Have put some things bought for presents away in the cupboard upstairs I am not having the terrible mess in the dining room like l did this year. I have restrained myself from buying more Emma bridgewater mugs but had to sit on my hands and smack myself to stop me buying them self harm not a good thing normally.
I may just go and get a couple for the dds for next christmas ......

NoWordForFluffy · 18/01/2018 17:34

I'd definitely send your DP round, Hairspray! It needs to be done! It would be driving me mad, so I don't envy you at all.

The EB mugs are pretty, but tea cools down way too quick in them. Perfect for my before-work tea, as I've not got time to dilly dally, but not great otherwise! Not when you have small kids around to distract you from getting it drunk quickly anyway!

My second lot of stocking fillers have been dispatched now. I really need to think about birthday presents soon. DD wants a trampoline, but there aren't any in the sales. Hopefully there will be at some point though.

WreckTangled · 18/01/2018 17:42

So glad that working week is over! I keep looking at holidays but we really can't afford it.

Mrsmadevans · 18/01/2018 17:49

Fluffy I have decided against buying them I want to but I know it is not really very sensible considering the mugs I bought for 20p and 50p the other day. I am under control again!
Trampolines..... hmm you would think they would be cheaper to buy now being out of season. They have some on George but they are only 20 quid off and still a lot of money . I bet they will come down in price very soon.
Just off to sort out my DM new fire tablet, hope I get it going for her. We shall see !

Mrsmadevans · 18/01/2018 17:54

Wreck, on Hotukdeals , there are loads of discounted hols they had a cracking offer on Disneyland Paris too.

SideOrderofSprouts · 18/01/2018 18:00

Please send healthy vibes!!

Oh God Sprout you are having a bad time of it , I hope the children are better very soon. It seems there are so many poorly at the moment , just been watching the news this flu bug is really taking it's toll on the NHS. My dh just said to me he wouldn't go to a GP surgery unless he really had to because they must be absolutely chock a block with infections.
Hope they are ok take care.
