Back at work - in tray piled high, staffing issues, freezing office, ugh.
Christmas went well though. We started with DH and DD coming to meet me in town on Friday after we all broke up (DH slightly surprised at how little was needed as he thought we had loads of shopping to do!!). But we had a nice lunch and I brought home my bunch of flowers to make my Christmas centerpiece.
Other than organizing ourselves, I spent a lot of Saturday in the (VERY BIG) local supermarket, packing bags for Scouts (fundraising) and very glad I had done an internet shop! The store had asked the night before if there were Scouts available from 9am (normally 10.30 start) as the queues were so bad- so I did an early stint as well as my lunchtime slot, and managed to collect our own turkey in between as well. But that was the main reason my flower arranging got delayed.
Sunday, DD and I did the Christmas Eve swim, while DH stood on shore and held the towels! But it was good fun, raised money for a homeless charity, and because it was in the yacht club, there were hot showers and mulled wine afterwards (DD had hot chocolate).
Monday was relatively relaxing, DH had a cold so didn't go visiting, but DD and I went to my DAunt's house for an extended family gathering (wine and nibbles) after mass and before sitting down with bubbles and presents. The turkey was lovely, and we actually just had a lovely slow day. Visitors in on Boxing Day for our annual "at home" gathering and DD birthday - what is an "afternoon" thing, finished as we waved the last out the door at 11.45pm! We also went visiting my other DAunt and cousins before the cousins went back to the UK another afternoon, and had 3 days visiting DSIL and family (incl DMIL up visiting) and my DPs in 2 separate stops down the country over New Years.
The other thing we managed to do, apart from some actual down-time, was get a lot of organizing and decluttering done in the house. The recycling bin was full the week before Christmas, (well, all bins were), and again straight after Christmas it was absolutely stuffed. It got emptied on Thursday, and by Friday night, it was "normally" full already and we brought some bags straight to the recycling centre. But the cupboards are starting to look better, and the fridge and freezer, and spare bedroom too. We'll get there eventually.
The only thing I didn't touch was my paperwork. I have things I need to get done for scouts urgently tonight, and for my other committee urgently this week. But that too will happen
.
I have not really been shopping in the sales, except to buy 2 lovely Christmas books in a garden centre yesterday (50% off) which will make lovely presents. I must go looking for a new pan with a lid, and my smoothie blender was making strange noises last night. But I have enough paper for next Christmas (bought very long rolls on 3for2 deal in M&S), and I am hoping to make cards this year.
Now though, I'd better face the reality of the in-tray and the emails....I might go get a coffee first though....
Happy New Year, y'all, and happy planning and scheming ahead!!
