Back at work - in tray piled high, staffing issues, freezing office, ugh.

Christmas went well though. We started with DH and DD coming to meet me in town on Friday after we all broke up (DH slightly surprised at how little was needed as he thought we had loads of shopping to do!!). But we had a nice lunch and I brought home my bunch of flowers to make my Christmas centerpiece.

Other than organizing ourselves, I spent a lot of Saturday in the (VERY BIG) local supermarket, packing bags for Scouts (fundraising) and very glad I had done an internet shop! The store had asked the night before if there were Scouts available from 9am (normally 10.30 start) as the queues were so bad- so I did an early stint as well as my lunchtime slot, and managed to collect our own turkey in between as well. But that was the main reason my flower arranging got delayed.

Sunday, DD and I did the Christmas Eve swim, while DH stood on shore and held the towels! But it was good fun, raised money for a homeless charity, and because it was in the yacht club, there were hot showers and mulled wine afterwards (DD had hot chocolate).

Monday was relatively relaxing, DH had a cold so didn't go visiting, but DD and I went to my DAunt's house for an extended family gathering (wine and nibbles) after mass and before sitting down with bubbles and presents. The turkey was lovely, and we actually just had a lovely slow day. Visitors in on Boxing Day for our annual "at home" gathering and DD birthday - what is an "afternoon" thing, finished as we waved the last out the door at 11.45pm! We also went visiting my other DAunt and cousins before the cousins went back to the UK another afternoon, and had 3 days visiting DSIL and family (incl DMIL up visiting) and my DPs in 2 separate stops down the country over New Years.

The other thing we managed to do, apart from some actual down-time, was get a lot of organizing and decluttering done in the house. The recycling bin was full the week before Christmas, (well, all bins were), and again straight after Christmas it was absolutely stuffed. It got emptied on Thursday, and by Friday night, it was "normally" full already and we brought some bags straight to the recycling centre. But the cupboards are starting to look better, and the fridge and freezer, and spare bedroom too. We'll get there eventually.

The only thing I didn't touch was my paperwork. I have things I need to get done for scouts urgently tonight, and for my other committee urgently this week. But that too will happen Xmas Grin.

I have not really been shopping in the sales, except to buy 2 lovely Christmas books in a garden centre yesterday (50% off) which will make lovely presents. I must go looking for a new pan with a lid, and my smoothie blender was making strange noises last night. But I have enough paper for next Christmas (bought very long rolls on 3for2 deal in M&S), and I am hoping to make cards this year.

Now though, I'd better face the reality of the in-tray and the emails....I might go get a coffee first though....

Happy New Year, y'all, and happy planning and scheming ahead!! Xmas Grin

Ugh back to school and work! Picked up enough wrapping paper to last us a few years, 10p a roll at Clinton’s, I call that a productive lunch break! Just attempting to fit it all in the car before heading back to the office, meetings with clients all afternoon, don’t think there’s enough coffee in the world to keep me awake cor!
On the plus side, writing out lists for this year and a few things already bought!

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 08/01/2018 12:37

Are there any other volunteers for the thread baby or is the pressure all on me? ConfusedBear

WreckTangled · 08/01/2018 12:40

I have NOTHING to do at work. Have literally sat here twiddling my thumbs all morning. Blah.

No thread baby here! I wish dh said no

NoWordForFluffy · 08/01/2018 12:43

No pressure, Paddington! I'm sure someone else may want one. Not me though; I'm done! And knackered! πŸ˜‚

Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2018 16:28

Paddington, we didn't have a thread baby this year so don't worry we are not demanding you provide one but it would be wonderful if you could manage it . We are all keeping everything crossed for you my dear .
Biddy so pleased to hear you had such a lovely Christmas, you were so busy and still are oh my God how do you do it????
Wreck can't you come on MN and pretend to work darling?
Acey that paper was mega cheap! Great bargain am only slightly Xmas Envy
Hairspray great news on the house moving Good Luck my dear!
Had a busy day today , up elderly parents to clean the whole house change the beds and do the washing and attend a meeting for mum to have assessment for a shower room , she cannot get about much at all now and the bath is impossible.
Came home and out for a walk 3 miles round trip ,dropped off an old hoover for elderly NDN at the tip , the bin men refused to take it for him it wouldn't have hurt them to take it he is 88 poor thing Aldis for a lil shopping for Ma and Pa, then post office to return a shedload of clothes for the DD2 to that awful ASOS place lol, then DR's for hubbs prescription. Just returned home for a cuppa and a catch up here . Hope everyone is fine it is very cold here 2 degrees and very dull out. Never mind , no rain . Off to walk up the market in the morning and a good look round town to see if there is any 10p wrapping paper in our Clinton's lol , I won't hold my breath!

BiddyPop · 08/01/2018 16:28

Thread baby??

(If you mean, and pardon me for being stupid as I have a similar lack of coffee to Acey, a new baby for Christmas 2018 - not a hope! I got my mirena renewed in December as, while we love DD dearly, one is definitely enough!)

Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2018 16:32

Fluffy hope the day went well for you , it is soooo tiring when you wake and can't get back to sleep , am wondering what Christmas apron you picked nosy parker lol

Not Scandi, Mrs, though that was my preference.

It's the one attached. I'll buy a Scandi one if and when I find it!

Come one come all. It’s countdown to Christmas 2018!
VivaJen · 08/01/2018 17:37

Ooooh that's awesome Fluffy. I got a red and white Scandi one in Dobbies a few years back.

Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2018 17:40

Love the apron it's FUN and colourful, thank you for showing us Fluffy; I am sure you have better things to be doing than showing us your pinny lol but you knew it had to be done ! Cue lots of begging from us ME to see it if you hadn't l hinted enough ! Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 08/01/2018 18:05

I was waiting for a lesser spotted train and using the free WiFi so it wasn't too much hassle, Mrs!

We've got a Dobbies in walking distance of home. Think I'll have missed the Christmas sale though!

SideOrderofSprouts · 08/01/2018 18:07

Allo allo how is everyone?

Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2018 18:38

I love the Helga range ......

NoWordForFluffy · 08/01/2018 20:59

I got home at about 6.30, so not loads later than normal, just annoying really as it was a bloody long day with a bonus 2 mile walk to get from the centre of the city to work this morning. I may have eaten loads tonight. Never mind!

Also, I went to Tesco for fruit and veg earlier and bought some crackers. Down from Β£10.00 to Β£2.50. Not a bad deal really. I've hidden them from the kids!

Come one come all. It’s countdown to Christmas 2018!
Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2018 21:26

Crackers are gorgeous Fluffy ,very very classy love them and such a bargain. Glad you are home it has been so cold out today. We are watching the surgeons 'at the edge of life' programme on BBC 2. OMG the patients are so brave , my heart is in my mouth for them .

NoWordForFluffy · 08/01/2018 21:28

We're on Silent Witness on 1.

Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2018 21:55

Are we all back to normality now then? Long haul to this Christmas! Xmas Sad

HairsprayBabe · 09/01/2018 07:15

Yeah I am back to normal now, on a bit of Jan diet as I gained a half stone in the festivities!

Just planning on renting a room in a house chair, it is only for 6 months and I will be home friday afternoon and leave on monday morning. Then I can work from home 4 days a week and only travel into the office for meetings etc.

Everyone in my office knows now so it is a little weird at work...
