Just that really, which day are you going to brave it on?

I already have some non perishables in the cupboard and Sainsbury’s are bringing the rest on Friday evening.

apostropheuse · 20/12/2017 15:06

Charity bag packers at Christmas! What kind of hell is this?

Xmas Shock
Taffeta · 20/12/2017 15:14

Ocado deliveries 22nd & 23rd

22nd delivery for massive party on 23rd
23rd delivery for Xmas stuff

BeyondAssignation · 20/12/2017 16:02

Vit, I got a chicken in Asda with a long enough date on it

mateysmum · 20/12/2017 16:17

Got most things yesterday as had to go into town for other things. Cream etc all well in date.
I'll go on Friday early to get the salady bits/coleslaw/herbs etc that are always short dated, but if the supermarkets burned down today, I'd still be able to do Christmas Day lunch. Sausages, bacon, sausagemeat etc all in the freezer.

BiddyPop · 20/12/2017 16:48

apostropheuse the large supermarket always has some group on bag packing, but our Scout Troupe has done NYE a few times and got offered 23rd this year. But we have strict instructions to offer to pack bags, but immediately step back if the shopper doesn't want it done. So you don't have to have it done.

torthecatlady · 20/12/2017 17:10

Went to M&s yesterday (gift card in hand) planning to get everything, but they only had about 5 chickens there and none of them had a long enough date or would even have been big enough.

So I bought everything except the chicken, then chanced it and went to Tesco to get the chicken which was huge and had a date of 28th on it. Free range Tesco Finest, feeds up to 7 and was only £9.

In work today someone asked if I was ready for Christmas and I started to say no by default, then realised that I now have everything and don't have to worry about anything else. (I breathed a sigh of relief)

Thedietstartsnow · 20/12/2017 17:19

My Tesco shop arrived today...with 11 substitutes ffs,we are vegan and they sent lamb......anyway none of the substitutes were any good..so thank god I didn't have this delivered Xmas eve,as I've chance to get the stuff I need.but it's very frustrating..bloody Tesco

torthecatlady · 20/12/2017 17:21

@Thedietstartsnow what item did they substitute for lamb?!

Lovemusic33 · 20/12/2017 17:22

I’m pleased I didn’t do mine online, have heard many horror stories of people getting things that go out of date tomorrow and things being substituted. Most of these people will now have to go to a supermarket to find the things they are missing. I think going early in the morning or late at night is the best option. Luckily dd2 is a early walker so we can go early or I will go late after work on Friday.

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/12/2017 17:26

I am going on Friday but most stuff is organised. All non perishables are done and meat is ordered from the butcher to collect Sat.

So, it's just veg, milk and one or two other bits to get.

I refuse to stop after Friday due to the crowds! Luckily, I finish work at 12.15pm on Fri so it shouldn't be too bad.

BlackPeppercorn · 20/12/2017 17:27

Mine is always divided into several smaller shops during this last week. Little and often.
I often pop out at 9.30pm or something with a small specific list (eg soft drinks and crisps)or some other random time. Always by myself. My kindle and a bottle of water in bag ready for any queues although I haven't really experienced queuing since we moved out of London 4 yrs ago!
My last trip will be with DSis - I will stand in the line at M&S for the ordered turkey etc, she will dart around the food hall like a demented elf picking up any last minute/very perishables. We shall rendezvous by the lingerie and wave bottles of Prosecco at each other before mincing in a smug manner through the shopping centre to the car.

Thedietstartsnow · 20/12/2017 17:41

Vegan mince out of stock..mince lamb instead

Thedietstartsnow · 20/12/2017 17:43

A lot of it I needed for tomorrow as it's a birthday party tea.really pissed off I now have to go round our huge and jam packed Tesco.theres no point me doing it on line when so many things don't turn up,

iatethepies · 20/12/2017 17:44

Done ours today. I'm working the rest of the week so I wanted the bulk done and anything I've forgotten can be picked up on the way.

PurpleAlerts · 20/12/2017 17:48

Apart from the turkey and chipolatas and a few small bits which I will collect on Saturday, I got all of my food shopping on the way back from work today! Sorted!

Vitalogy · 20/12/2017 17:57

BeyondAssignation Thank you, glad you got one ok. Have a good Christmas. Xmas Grin

Vitalogy · 20/12/2017 18:03

Went in M&S today, not shopping for Christmas food but their egg noodles with beansprouts, use by date today, I asked for a discount, not until 4pm they say, meanies. Had to buy them anyway due to fussy eater in house.

PinkAvocado · 20/12/2017 18:06

Got it all done today and was surprised to. Was expecting to have to go back for the fresh stuff but everything had longer dates on that I thought they would.

RebootYourEngine · 20/12/2017 18:20

I did mine at the end of Nov. Will get fresh stuff ie bread, milk, veg probably saturday.

However a relative works in a supermarket and they have been having a moan and said that their shop hasnt been getting much deliveries so i am now panicking that i wont get what i need to last me from saturday to wednesday.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 20/12/2017 18:22

Booked my delivery 10pm last night just arrived with minimal substitutions got meat today, just party food and fresh food probably got friday

mimi14 · 20/12/2017 18:32

We went this morning... it was busy but not too bad! I forgot chocolate and anything for pudding so I'll pop out without the kids on Friday or Saturday. The sprouts I got today go out of date on the 23rd but I think they'll be fine.

Wishfulmakeupping · 20/12/2017 18:35

I think we'all go sat or xmas eve- I've tried to go in the middle of the night but had to go tescos Xmas eve one year forgot some urgent bits and it was weirdly quiet on Xmas eve so do it Xmas eve since then always ok:

PavlovaPlease · 20/12/2017 18:46

Ocado coming in T-5 mins and then tomorrow for everything we've forgotten. Aiming to not go anywhere near the shops over the weekend.

Fffion · 20/12/2017 18:58

Those who are getting their Christmas food now, where do you store it? I can’t imagine having a humongous turkey in my fridge for more than a day.
