I lie it has nothing to do with pears. It's apples to apples. Oops

Minster2012 · 20/08/2017 13:42

Just adults, one (hopefully asleep 1 yr old) we did cards against humanity 2 years ago on Boxing Day, I bought a game called something like 'f*ck cards• which is very good but again done, so ones like that good but my family won't like those kind of games. It's more kind of games like ones you make yourself or ones similar to apple bobbing or sorting coloured balls from opposite crates in fastest times maybe type games? Or someone said something recently about a game where you put teeth in?? Problem is my in laws do a games day once a year so do lots of games there ☹️

HolyShmoly · 20/08/2017 13:59

Ah, have you tried googling Minute to Win It games? Or buying the Cube game?

christmasunicorn · 20/08/2017 14:12

Could you do a supermarket sweep kinda game where you label x many items around your house with post it's (or just use coloured balls - red could be £1, green £2 etc) and time everyone to collect as many as possible, highest amount wins

christmasunicorn · 20/08/2017 14:15

Or a take on the crystal maze. Two teams, nominate a player each to compete in a challenge. Winner wins a crystal. Team with most crystals wins. Something like that

FireflyGirl · 20/08/2017 17:36

Oops! Sorry for starting Tinsel War and disappearing... Blush fwiw - I do tinsel and beads. It's not an either/or conundrum for me!

Wrt games, my parents do different games every year. They did one once where you have to hum a tune and the rest of your team have to guess what it is. That one was particularly hilarious as apparently half my family are tone deaf!

If you go on Pinterest, there are lots of ideas for Christmas Minute to Win It style games. You could use them for unicorn's Crystal Maze idea - only have something Christmas themed instead of Crystals - oooh! How about Christmas cracker hats? And everyone wearing one gets to take part in the last game to see who is the ultimate winner?

Disclaimer - I may be getting a little over invested Xmas Grin

I like my name as well. You either love me or hate me Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 20/08/2017 18:40

I can think of one Scrooge-like poster who keeps appearing on the Christmas board who'd hate your name, Sprouts! 😂

Annwithnoe · 20/08/2017 19:10

In my (Irish) family there's only one game for all occasions: 25

HolyShmoly · 20/08/2017 19:18

Ann I don't think I'll ever master 25, my father played it and so does my brother, but I'm taking my immigrant status to cover the fact that I have no idea of it! Or most other card games for that matter.

ScrappyMalloy · 20/08/2017 19:28

We don't play games at Christmas cos we are more a eat loads and slob in front of the telly family (although we rouse ourselves for dog walking), but some of your games sound fab. Might be converted this year though ...

Annwithnoe · 20/08/2017 19:32

Holy, I don't think you are the first or last to be driven out of the country for that reason. It's also an ancient tradition for Irish patriarchs and matriarchs to insist everyone retrieve their cards and replay a hand because some poor unfortunate, unfamiliar with the intricate nuances of the game, played a card in an illogical sequence. Grin

christmasunicorn · 20/08/2017 20:10

I've never heard of 25. Clearly my Irish family never cared to learn it. We are very much a newmarket family. Every sodding family get together

Minster2012 · 20/08/2017 20:31

Some great ideas for games, thanks, games is a favourite part, gets everyone smiling and laughing and interacting instead of lulling from food overload (pre dog walk!) and we often do pre dessert, but its pressure! I'm going to slink off with gin to Pinterest the hell out of Christmas games 🎄🎄Gin

Whatsername17 · 20/08/2017 20:35

Bears vs Babies is a great card game.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/08/2017 06:15

Morning!

Really not long until it's less than 100 days until Christmas. That is crazy talk!

And I'm still impatiently awaiting the M&S food offering! 😂

CbeebiesAddict · 21/08/2017 06:23

I went into M&S yesterday fluffy and asked but they had not a clue! Had to get up pre 6am today and it was still dark. DH said 'almost Christmas' and he isn't a Christmas but like me Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 21/08/2017 06:59

I get up at 5am most work days and it's been relatively dark at that time for a few weeks now. It's definitely autumnal at the very least!

We went blackberry picking at the weekend as they're finally ripening in the NW now! We got about 1.5kg of them, and I now have 16 jars of jam in the fridge. 😂

We've also had our first crumble of the autumn, so we are most definitely on the road to Christmas!

CbeebiesAddict · 21/08/2017 07:22

Ooh what a great haul 'fluffy'! I made an apple, pear and blackberry crumble last night so tasty! Pay day on Wednesday, can't wait to get DS' christmas present. We are going for the IKEA play kitchen and accessories Smile

Minster2012 · 21/08/2017 07:57

@nowordforfluffy dare I say I asked about the Christmas food catalogue and they said September

NoWordForFluffy · 21/08/2017 07:59

September is next week...I can just about cope with that (seeing as they didn't bother in July with everyone else, I'm just grateful it's finally coming now! 😂).

MrsBrew005 · 21/08/2017 08:02

Oohhh I'm posting to join in please!! Love Christmas put together my Christmas box yesterday, a few stocking fillers each week, nights are closing in it's nearly here!!!!

CbeebiesAddict · 21/08/2017 08:45

Ooh Minster that sounds promising!

ScrappyMalloy · 21/08/2017 08:46

Welcom Mrs Brew, you'll like everyone here. I'm new, and I do!

My Christmas cake is still disassembled in front of me on the kitchen table. Grrr, how hard can it be to soak some fruit for 12 hours? Very hard, it seems. I will put it together, and tomorrow, I bake!

It's very autumnal here in the south coast. We finally stirred off the sofa yesterday to walk the dogs, and the rain came down. Both dogs bolted back to their cosy places, so we put the fire on, lit the candles, broke out the cake and coffee, and settled back down on the sofa under the big winter blankets. Heaven.

Crumble sounds lovely. Sadly, super-fussy DH won't eat hedge pickings so it not worth bothering.

I have decided to insist on offer games on Christmas Day! I reckon my mum will love it, as will my grown up kids. I have Cards Against Humanity and Exploding Kittens on my wish list so far.
