My 6 year old wants a hatchimal. They are only be released so theres no reviews but the ads are on tv 10 times an hour. Are they going to be a big thing this year? I cam discern much from the little there us online. Are they just a big tomigotchi (sp?).

Interested to hear is anyone else considering them. It would be the big pressie this year as they are getting a trampoline berween thwm

DS has asked for one of these but the reviews on Amazon suggest they're rubbish. Sad 3 stars isn't a lot for £60 of present but better than the 1 star for the zero gravity car set

Has anyone hatched theirs yet, for a birthday present rather than Christmas. I'm not sure they're worth the money.

strawberrypenguin · 21/10/2016 14:21

Rediculous isn't it. They expected them to be popular so they should provide the stock. Pretty sure they are doing it on purpose actually. Anyway I'm using this stock tracker website here not had any luck yet but hoping too soon!

Dancergirl · 21/10/2016 14:29

I like the look of them, they look cute. But after wasting a lot of money on the interactive unicorn last year I'm not so sure.

I'd quite like one even if dd doesn't

Maybe a furby is better....

strawberrypenguin · 21/10/2016 14:51

I just asked DS if we would prefer a furby (complete with videos!) and he still says hatchimal! Oh well it was worth a try!

Letustryagain · 21/10/2016 15:19

I nearly ordered one from Amazon Germany for £74 including delivery but I'm holding out because there are still two months until Xmas so surely I'll be able to get one by then - or am I kidding myself and I should just order one from Germany... Confused

OhFuckOff · 21/10/2016 16:50

I had my two on preorder and they both arrived this week, they look pretty crap to be honest but it's all they have gone in about Confused

Letustryagain · 21/10/2016 21:29

Strawberrypenguin - thank you for the tip on the stock tracking website. I got an alert tonight saying that one of our local Argos stores had one in stock and I've managed to reserve it to pick up tomorrow!!

I'm keeping an open mind on the reviews at the moment because the people reviewing them had only had them a couple of days and they were still in the 'baby' stage of the toy.

So I'm picking up a green one tomorrow - although I'm holding out for a pink one really so may return the green one if a pink one becomes available somewhere...

DD is now sorted for Xmas - yay! Smile

What does a hatchimal do once it's hatched? Does it link with the iPad or do anything? £60 is a lot for a cuddly toy that hatches from its own egg then does nothing.

2014newme · 22/10/2016 11:21

£60-80 of crazy for this it will be played with for ten minutes

Viiolettheorgangrinder · 22/10/2016 11:56

Decided I'm going to wait til Amelie's birthday in Feb and see if she still wants one then, and there's more reviews.

Ginmakesitallok · 22/10/2016 12:02

It's like a furby- but doesn't link to iPad etc.

glenthebattleostrich · 22/10/2016 19:38

aaargh. DD has just announced that this is the thing she needs for Christmas.

Freeda86 · 24/10/2016 09:10

What even are they... like them aliens in the goo from the 90s?

Peach9876 · 24/10/2016 09:46

There are lots of youtube videos now. Seem a lot like the old furby, only it comes out of an egg first.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/10/2016 13:02

Drat those ruddy adverts! DS (6yrs) suddenly started with the Hatchimal love a few days ago. I'd not seen an advert, and had no idea what he was talking about. After a lot of YouTube vids I realized DS wasn't going to let go of the Hatchimal love so I bought one quickly rather than join in the panic buying and end up paying over the odds for it at the last minute.

Anyway, I think it will be really engaging on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, as he tends to the egg and gets it to hatch, then plays with it after. So it will have that wonder and excitement that his other presents won't have... So on balance it will be lovely to have something really engrossing to occupy him when I'm knackered / cooking dinner / washing up!

And hopefully it will be loved for longer as its really expensive for what it is. But I'm resigned to that being from Father Christmad and feeling magical over the holidays, and then the presents I'm giving from me will be used and loved more long term:

  1. Hatchimal from Father Christmas
  2. Mr Men watch from rudolf!
  3. Sweet & lollipop making kit (me)
  4. Electronic cash machine toy (me)
  5. Rubix cube (& stocking presents)

Somewhat annoyingly I had already bought a silly monkey called Dave who's controlled with a remote to talk, burp, laugh etc. I think it's too similar to the Hatchimal to give. I'll have to keep it for his birthday instead.

strawberrypenguin · 24/10/2016 15:37

Where did you find one so fast miscellanious I've still not managed to track down one of the buggers

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 24/10/2016 16:19

Some of the supermarkets have them but they may not be in the toy area. At our local Asda they were in homewares

2014newme · 24/10/2016 16:32

They had them in Harrods yesterday £60

2014newme · 24/10/2016 16:34

Have to say, my dd decided she wanted one but we watched some of the videos online and she changed her mind. Reviews say that once they are hatched they aren't very good. So we put the hatchimal back on the shelf. This day she says she is glad we didn't get it

2014newme · 24/10/2016 16:36

When it hatches it's a bit like a little live pet. It hops about making noises.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/10/2016 18:05

Hey strawberry I got mine on Amazon, it was the last one though, I think I was lucky.

It was a decision made in seconds when I clicked the whole 'scarcity' marketing schtick they're doing.

I usually waver and over think things like this, and then have to go to great lengths to get it when I've finally decided and there's none left! Sod's law he goes off the idea by Christmas AngryGrin

I also think I wanted a less popular type, as DS loves green, so I was after the draggles blue/green egg, which I haven't seen such demand for.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/10/2016 18:07

Booo, I thought I found one for sale for you just now for £54 pounds, but on closer inspection it was on an international target store and for non-reserved in store purchase only. Which is completely pointless! Sorry :(

strawberrypenguin · 24/10/2016 18:46

Ah thanks Smile I'm using the stick informer website so I'm sure one will turn up sooner or later!

2014newme · 24/10/2016 20:07

Did you check harrods, they had plenty this weekend

Errrmmm · 24/10/2016 20:19

Smyths said they'll be back in stock from the 7th November, this happens every year with the top toys, they have a limited amount of stock around this time which then creates a hype around them then they'll be everywhere in about a month
