My 6 year old wants a hatchimal. They are only be released so theres no reviews but the ads are on tv 10 times an hour. Are they going to be a big thing this year? I cam discern much from the little there us online. Are they just a big tomigotchi (sp?).

Interested to hear is anyone else considering them. It would be the big pressie this year as they are getting a trampoline berween thwm

Surprisingly yes! I thought it might have been smaller but it's quite big. Having to stop myself opening it up and playing 😁 Batteries included too.

Soubriquet · 07/10/2016 11:11

I've tried searching YouTube for the first opening but all I see are videos of people playing with the egg and lights. No actual hatching. Anyone got a video with a hatched animal?

I dunno now I've seen that. It looks a bit lame but to be fair I don't even know what a furby does so have no frame of reference. I must read up on furbys and if I think dd would like them then maybe a hatchable is worth a go. The other big present being mentioned is the Lego friends house and I'm inclined to that that would be a far better buy

ballsdeep · 07/10/2016 20:40

I was looking at these too. What happens when they hatch?

Soubriquet · 07/10/2016 21:04

Jeez that looks a little psychotic

strawberrypenguin · 07/10/2016 23:04

Yeah I love the hatching but I'm not convinced it's worth the price tag for us.

1potato2potato3potato4 · 07/10/2016 23:10

Hatchimals are set to be big if their advertising strategy pays off. DD unfortunately watches POP! so is very keen on this idea. I can't decide, it's a toss up between that as a big present or putting the money in her savings account and hoping she'll be distracted by the array of smaller gifts.
I wouldn't go for the Furby instead. Remember desperately wanting that toy at Christmas and your DP's getting you that well thought out second rate one instead? Waste of money. Buy the Hatchimal or go for something completely different.

Soubriquet · 08/10/2016 08:14

Once they are hatched that's the novelty over with really isn't it?

Heavenscent86 · 08/10/2016 12:01

It's here!

Hatchimal
strawberrypenguin · 08/10/2016 12:04

I think if DS was desperate for it I would but he's not actually asked for one I just thought he might like it so it's a no for us I think

disneyprincesswannabe · 08/10/2016 17:10

I was thinking no way, then watched the video, and now I want one! Hmmm will have to see if the Christmas budget will stretch a little (or lot! We have 5 kids!) where's the best deals on them?

Kione · 08/10/2016 17:43

Watching as my DD saw the advert, wanted one -but she wants most things she sees in adverts- and then she forgot. Its her birthday next thursday and we only got her a couple of small things. My auntie has sent a toy parrot that repeats things and dad has sent stuff too.
I just feel mean that she has no "big" presents.
I could get it for her at xmas but I am due DS on 22nd of Dec and not sure if I'll have time to help her play with it? She is 7. On the orher hand might keep her busy while I am wirh the baby!

backinaminute · 08/10/2016 19:35

I'm shamelessly following this - both my ds's have said they would like these, but only when they see them on tv. They are 3 and 5, I just cannot see how I could justify £120 on these. Maybe the little one could get one for his birthday in november and if ds1 loves it that much, he could get one for Christmas? Maybe I would have to be more organised though.

MooseAndSquirrel · 08/10/2016 19:44

Dd1 is getting one for Xmas (came Friday) tbh they seem just like a cuter furby, but she loved her furby till the dog destroyed it so I don't mind.
I don't like paying full price though, so I ordered from ocado. They have £20 off for your first order, so the £60 dragel was only £40.

*order needs to be over £80 to qualify, but as i added on the things I would generally buy in the shopping it was still a great saving

Idliketobeabutterfly · 09/10/2016 13:40

My son wants one and I think I might get one for my neice.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 09/10/2016 17:43

Bought one from tesco direct, the bearakeet

Ratbagcatbag · 09/10/2016 18:11

I have a slight hatchimal obsession. I opened a very account to get the 20% off. Ordered it and they accepted my order then let me know at lunch on Friday they couldn't supply one. By this point tons out of stock so ordered a pink egg of Amazon (only one left). Told friends to look out for a teal egg. She spotted one in toys r us and send me pic. She got me the teal one and now I've realised next to the teal egg was the owlicorn toys r us exclusive. Argh. So currently will be on possession of two penguilas when I only want one and am kicking myself over missing an owlicorn and wondering where I should try and get one.
I think I have an unhealthy obsession.

Heavenscent86 · 09/10/2016 18:49

The owlicorn doesn't look much different to the others.

Kione I'm due on 22nd December as well.

I've just pre-ordered the purple egg for DD (just went pre-order on Smyths Ireland today). Just in case she wants it. She's only 3 though but obsessed with eggs!

Kione · 10/10/2016 13:42

Peopleplease Smile

Over the weekend DD saw the advert and looked at us with longing eyes, DP said "no, I don't like it" very sternly and I do know that voice. I felt a bit sad for her but I am hormonal!
Then I thought they might get out of stock for Christmas and he might come round, mostly because he is crap at getting things bought in time so even less possibly with a new baby around. Anyway, just ordered one Shock. I am thinking if he really really does not want it for DD I'll be able to sell it easy. But I know it is going to cause an argument :(

kiwidreamer · 10/10/2016 14:14

My DD 5yrs would love this, completely! She has Star Lily. Lucy the dog, Daisy the cat and a few other Fur Reals and adores them. It will be worth it for her. DS is 8yrs and saaaaaaaaaays he wants one too but hmmmmm I think it will be a one day wonder for him, but to avoid xmas day disappointment should I just get him one anyway, it will give the kids something to do together on the plus side, even it its just every now and again, but it is quite a lot of money - wwyd??!!

usernumber007 · 10/10/2016 17:45

Seeing as they are being sold on amazon for £80+, I might just get one (or two or three) as can always be sold if I change my mind

Viiolettheorgangrinder · 11/10/2016 12:39

Argh my 4 year old announced she wants one after seeing an ad during milkshake this morning. Managed to convince her to wait til her birthday in February lol.

happyoldtown · 11/10/2016 12:45

I'm the OP. I just picked mine up from smyths. Checkout girl said they're flying off the shelves
