wishfulmakeupping I got it here. Not the cheapest but it's lovely quality. My dd loves jigsaws and I thought it might help her recognise her name letters.

Ownerofalittlechimp · 25/11/2014 09:37

For me rinky it's a combination of offers, deals, vouchers, points etc. haven't paid full price for anything & have stuck to budget. So all boots points are saved, have doubled nectar points, club card points etc. as we have a lot of kids to buy for have pocked up lots with weekly shop when spotted a deal etc so the impact is not to bad & I don't get in to debt x

AugustaGloop · 25/11/2014 10:29

DDs (10 and 11)

Both want a chair/small sofa for their bedrooms (recently moved and their rooms are bigger than last house so feel a bit bare). Not yet bought but this will be their main present. They have both got (or will get - one or two bits still to pick up):

clothes (too many)
pencil case/ stationery
toileteries (limb balm, hair chalk, bath fizzers)
books
personalised apron (they love baking)
DVD/CDs
voucher for somewhere (maybe Claires) - they always get a voucher in their stocking
chocolate
DD1 also has accessories for the instax camera she bought herself with her birthday money (case, new film)
DD2 has a cuddly toy. She will love it (quite an unusual one) and I felt the need to get her something that could still be classified as a toy!

These will be split between [large] stocking from FC and presents from us. Split not yet decided.

On Christmas Eve they will get new PJs plus a hot chocolate spoon thing.

From us they also have a bath bomb making kit and some baking equipment to share. Had not planned to get these, but realised that it is a bit difficult to do furniture as a main present (nowhere to hide ) so will give them a "voucher" to choose something in the sales, and then wanted to have a bit more to give them on the day.

Looking at it written down, I am a bit sad that it looks like quite a grown up list, but they don't really play much with toys anymore (apart from cuddly toys in DD2's case and board games which we have plenty of and craft stuff). I might have a think about whether there is something else more toy-like that I could get DD2. neither has admitted that they no longer believe in FC although it is pretty clear they don't. So instead we have this scenario where they don't believe, I (and DH) know they don't believe and they know we know they don't believe, but yet we all still pretend in a slightly over the top way. It is actually almost as enjoyable as the magic of the earlier years but in a different way!

I suspect the list will look similar in future years, apart from the odd year when a gadget is required.

KatoPotato · 25/11/2014 10:39

crappyday · 25/11/2014 10:50

I missed that!
I'm not going to list exactly what my kids are getting, but along with little bits in stockings, it'll probably be a talking book cd each, a DVD each, something to read, some sticker or puzzle books, a game each, stationary stuff, and a few other bits & pieces.
We have quite a few toys, and I don't see the point of spending a fortune just cos it's Christmas.

nilbyname · 25/11/2014 11:22

rinky

I buy through the year, double club card vouchers for big stuff, have Amazon prime, watch out for deals and sales.

Perhaps it is alot, but we can afford it. Also, we go through existing toys with the kids and make a pile to donate to charity. We also do a special food bank shop with them to give to the church. We also have random across of kindness slips in the advent calendar to do over the month of December.

I think my children get a good sense of their good fortune and the importance of kindness to others.
