Crap. Thought I was nearly done. DS has a Lego set, a brainbox game, a Lego book and a HTTYD DVD. Hope he's not going to be ridiculed at school in January. I know all his friends have ipads and x boxes (in yr 2) but we can't afford that and I think he knows not to ask. Makes me sad that he's probably heading to therapy when he's older due to my inability to buy stuffBlush

We like to keep it easy! MIL is doing their stockings as we are staying over christmas eve. I have no idea whats in them but have a feeling it will be a lot!

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 25/11/2014 13:14

Good god how much have you lot got? Seriously how can you afford all that and other family presents as well?

Oh you have family to buy for? Do they also buy for your DC?

We have a tiny family and they don't believe in presents and we dont see them at xmas.

Lovely that you do though Confused

SolomanDaisy · 25/11/2014 13:14

80 schleich animals must be a typo, surely?

Minnie911 · 25/11/2014 13:25

Dashoflime the threading beads I got are the mellissa and doug ones they are 3+ but really chunky. They also have a lacing shoes on amazon if you were worried about the beads for choking.

howardbear · 25/11/2014 13:28

oh wow, lots of responses, so pleased I started the thread now, there's some lovely lists (will definitely be stealing some of these ideas for next years stash)!

its a shame you always get one or two who thinks its okay to judge, yes 15 dvd's for 1 child (well 2 really, I wont blindfold DS 2) really looking forward to cuddling up on the sofa on these cold, dark winter afternoons and watching them with my little family.

nilbyname · 25/11/2014 13:32

howard I agree! I would never ever get sniffy if someone said they were getting 1 thing or 1000 things for their children. It is personal preference as well as budget.

i hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas filled with love.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 25/11/2014 13:35

I always feel like I'm not very good at this parenting game when I read these threads!

DS1 (3.5 yo) - doll's house, plus some books, plus some dinosaurs, plus a curly straw.

DS2 (2.5 yo) - robot, plus some books, plus some dinosaurs, plus a curly straw.

The dinosaurs and straws will probably go in their stockings, plus a packet of oreos each as they love them. That's it.

Maybe it'll be more involved next year when they're both a bit bigger and able to get anticipatory about the whole thing. Right now they've got the attention spans of gnats Blush

I am looking forward to putting the tree up though Grin

KatoPotato · 25/11/2014 13:45

Plumping please, please tell me you're joking right? parenting is not measured against mountains of merchandise piled under a tree?

PlumpingUpPartridge · 25/11/2014 13:49

No kato, I know it's not, but to me all of those lists indicate that the parents usually mums have spent hours thinking about their DC, making plans and practically curling their toes with excitement at how delighted the kids will be on Christmas day. I find them lovely, because they're little written indicators of mental time spent thinking of and loving your DC.

I, on the other hand, went "Ooh, he likes them. And them. And them. That'll do!" I feel like I should have wanted to spend hours researching the Elsa dress black market and fighting other parents for the last Peppa Pig doll in Toys R Us Blush

KatoPotato · 25/11/2014 13:53

I bet your DC will love their presents Plumping, as will all the lucky children of lists both tiny and huge. Presents thought out with love will always be well received.

EmGee · 25/11/2014 13:53

I buy lots throughout the year and often at reduced prices. I do have a terrible habit of twitching at the last minute though.....

I will probably add a few things to this list (mainly books or games, toothbrushes, maybe PJs).

Both mine have these gifts in their stockings:

Hobby horse (with sound effects)
Frozen dress, plait, cutlery, jewellery
A Djeco craft set (these look gorgeous!)
Money box
Hair clips
A pretty dress
Disney dvd (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty)
Audio cd (Fantastic Mr Fox, Charlie and Lola)
Gruffalo child activity book
'Make your own crown' kit
Wooden harmonica
Bag of chocolate coins

DD1 (nearly 5) also has in her stocking:

Books - Usborne open flap book, Robert Sabuda pop-up Alice in Wonderland, The worst princess, The scarecrow wedding, a few Princess Poppy book/cds,
Depesche colouring book
Magnetic dress up doll
Playmobil princess carry-along castle set
Duvet set and nightie (Princess Sofia)
Styling head
Disney princess knickers
Charades for kids game
Spiral/mandala kit thing

DD (2.5) also has:

Playdoh set
Peg board case/set
Wooden ice-cream shop
Books: Set of 10 Alfie books, Stickman
Teapot bath set (they both fight over the one plastic teapot in the bath!)
Peter Rabbit plastic beaker
Sticker/colouring book
Cube game thingie

EmGee · 25/11/2014 13:56

I should add that some of the loot in the stockings may be removed and wrapped as a present to go under the tree instead!

PlumpingUpPartridge · 25/11/2014 13:58

Aww, thanks Kato!

DH will still think they've got too much, as he is a stingy Yorkshireman and grows weary of wading through toys Grin

EmGee · 25/11/2014 13:59

Plumping - we got DD1 a doll's house last year - it has been played with a lot! Am sure your children will adore it :)

nilbyname · 25/11/2014 14:04

plumping That is really sad! My shopping is comprised of the various emotions and thoughts, from-

He will LOVE that, to that will do, to oh shit I forgot he likes them, to, this is something I WANT them to like, this is educational or this is CHEAP!

Present giving is ONE of thelove languages, and for me it's a big one, I love to search for gifts, I love to shop. I also love to cook for people.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 25/11/2014 14:09

nilbyname I agree with you, that's why I feel guilty for not expending so much mental energy on it as everyone else seems to! I always think that maybe I'm not doing this thing right.....

I do like making them things though try knitting a bloody Xbox, that'll end well

Minion · 25/11/2014 14:13

plumping, not sure if it helps or anything! but I know from my childhood that the items I mostly played with and loved were the ones that my parents knew I'd get excited for.
Not the ones where they'd wrestled the last standing to get the cabbage patch doll.
My nanna made me a dolls house, it was and is my absolute fave gift Ives had. It was named after our house and decorated by my nanna and family.
So personal and didn't cost much at all as that was her hobby.
One year my dad got me a keyboard cause he knew I was musical (shame I couldn't end up reading music though haha).
And one year I got some my little ponies to use in my sisters stable.

All these 3 years, that was all I got and I knew my parents loved me as they knew that they were the only items I'd end up playing with.

Please don't feel down, your little ones have a loving mother, a warm home and plenty of hugs to go round. It's all they need. Believe me.

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 25/11/2014 14:14

Dd has from us / father Christmas

Cayla doll
Playmobil ark
Sylvanian house
Lots of frozen tat
Books
Couple of DVDs
Scooter
Playmobil fairy set
Arts and crafts bits
Set of frozen dolls
Olaf teddy

Other family members are getting

Snow glow Elsa
Colour me lambie
More playmobil
Doc mcstuffuns remote control scooter

Stocking

Socks
Play jewellery
Pencils
Nail varnish
Bath bomb

She does get loads but because I childmind loads of her stuff ends up shared.

We also go out and get a couple of bits to donate to salvation army (toddler toy, older kid toy, smellies etc) and do a big shop for the food bank, including shed loads of chocolate because every kid should have something to open and dd needs to understand how lucky she is.

Minion · 25/11/2014 14:16

Actually that meant to be directed at all parents. Please know that no matter the size or quantities of gifts, they will appreciate your love more.

Probably not my most eloquent moment but it's not meant to sound rude.
