It's more those with several children I was thinking of! PS - mini bin was from the £ shop. Might see if grandparents will get him a recycling truck, then he'll be in his element!

dashoflime · 27/11/2014 06:12

s88 I just googled Chelsea Barbie cos I was imagining a Barbie in a really sloaney outfit, driving a Chelsea tractor.
Apparently Chelsea is Barbies little sister. Really disappointed now.

MummyPig24 · 27/11/2014 06:33

I just buy what we can afford. Money is tight but I think the kids get plenty. Plus they are really lucky because we have a huge extended family who give lovely presents. I would rather they gave in time but still, we appreciate their generosity.

Sootgremlin · 27/11/2014 08:15

I don't really get the connection between spending less on your children at Christmas and caring more about others who don't have much?

There is no link between the two as far as I can see.

You can buy lots of gifts for your own children and still remember to give to others.

The child in the video had no one able or caring enough to provide him with a Christmas, and the children on these lists are getting that, and it is a good thing, whether that is represented by 3 thoughtfully chosen gifts or 20 impulse bought thoughtfully chosen gifts.

Most people I know are kind and give where they can to what they feel is important, so I bring that assumption to the people on this thread, regardless of whether I am inclined or able to do the same.

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 27/11/2014 08:52

Let's be honest here, the child in the video is being emotionally abused and neglected. He shouldn't be living with his mother. My heart breaks for him. This is one of the reasons I figure out who I need to buy for (family wise), plan my budget and donate between 10 and 15% of it to charities. I save all year, buy in sales etc to allow this.

I'm fed up off the 'oh you give your child more than half a satsuma, a colouring book and a used crayon for Christmas, don't you care about every person ever born???'. I grew up in poverty, there is no way I won't spoil my DD because I remember my dad selling his stuff so we could have Christmas lunch and some bits from the charity shop to open which is why I make sure I donate generously.

Apologies for the rant

fuzzpig · 27/11/2014 09:19
