The iPad mini could be easier to hold, but i like the screen size of the full size much better. Actually using it would be easier for small hands on the bigger one.
However if it was just for kids I might investigate a new model of a cheaper tablet, the hudl seems to have good reviews, and there is a Samsung tablet you can get for around £150. He won't need a lot of memory but then again to watch films it will need a good spec.

I'm running ios 8 on my iphone 5 and it's fine, but like all apple updates the older models can't cope with the additional memory etc needed to run them effectively. I'm leaving my iPad 2 on 7. Then again it could be fine, yi's pot luck.

AllThatGlistens · 09/11/2014 10:28

Because I referred to other posters bitchiness as unnecessary?

Um, yeah, I suppose I do, I see no need for it Confused Grin

anyoldname76 · 09/11/2014 10:31

I like the idea of this thread and its nice to see what people are getting their children.
Its obvious from the thread title what its about. Why come on just to bitch and moan.

lauraR1989 · 09/11/2014 10:32

oh really? See we don't really have any shops here that sell them so cant test the size out really.

We did look at the hull2 but i've just gone to iphone so that we can facetime when at their dads. Yea it was just to watch films really when he's not allowed up and about.

Thank you for the tip, I am clueless with all this technology so I do appreciate it!!

----Trying desperately hard to leave x off the end of your posts!

Fruityfruitfruit · 09/11/2014 10:32

I think the point in sharing pictures is because people are excited about what they have bought for their children and enjoy sharing it with like-minded people.
(I say like-minded because it's pretty obvious what this thread is about, the clue is in the title)
I love seeing everyone's pictures and lists and have seen some great ideas for my own children. I'm sure they're all going to have a lovely Xmas! (Or should I write Christmas, since some members have such an issue with the letter 'x' )

X Wink

AllThatGlistens · 09/11/2014 10:33

is the Hudl still on the Clubcard boost atm? I remember a few people getting brilliant deals last year using that.

Fixerupperz · 09/11/2014 10:37

Yes giants, I bought my Dd1 it I had 40 vouchers, doubled up to 80 so only cost me £49

Fixerupperz · 09/11/2014 10:38

Sorry glistens

AllThatGlistens · 09/11/2014 10:41

Oh that's a great discount! Smile

Might consider one for ds1 next year, he's an avid reader although not sure whether to just go for the kindle- is there a huge difference aside from the obvious?

Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin · 09/11/2014 10:45

Laura don't spend ££ on ipads just for face time. You can put Skype on ipads and android tablets like hudls (and smart TVs & laptops etc) and it's pretty much the same thing.

RJnomore · 09/11/2014 10:45

Yeah the clubcard boost is great, dd2 got a hudl through it last year. This year it's got her the new Disney infinity, and dd1 an iPhone dock, hair dryer and multi region DVD player. We use a tesco credit card for all our food shopping, pay it off each month, and the points add up well.

AllThatGlistens · 09/11/2014 10:48

What do you think of the Hudl RJ?

I have a kindle fire but I do think ds1 would only want it for reading and a couple of games, he's certainly not internet savvy so that's not an issue.

lauraR1989 · 09/11/2014 10:50

thanks Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin, didn't know what skype is, it was also for sharing pictures and apps with my phone, wasnt sure i could still do that if I have iphone and they have something else? x

SkullytonFlowers · 09/11/2014 10:53

i have both types of hudls, old and new, and my kids love them, they're very robust and you can play all the android games on them.

the newer one has a better screen and loads quicker, but the older one is perfectly adequate for children to use.

SeeChooJimmy · 09/11/2014 10:55

Love the clubcard boost we used our vouchers that got doubled to get the large belles tea part, the 2small princess and small princes and the jigsaws costing me a grand total of £0 Grin love a bargin but FREE is so much better.

RJ Tesco points are brilliant arnt they! Last year lots of rave reviews on hudl, is it still recommended a year on. As far as I remember people said you could do far more on H than Kindle, get more stuff? H more versatile.

I hope tesco sorts its business out because if it goes down we wouldnt be able to go anywhere.

I have not used points this year on toys, going to use them for longleat xmas instead and ferry next year. Then save up for hudle next year.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 09/11/2014 10:57

Thats brilliant see choo, they also had a good sale recently and also when I got our lego it was on offer buy more than 29 pounds worth and get 500 extra points! those points have paid for us to get into longleat for xmas

AllThatGlistens · 09/11/2014 10:58

Hmmm. Good reviews for the Hudl so far then!

What are the parental controls like?

SkullytonFlowers · 09/11/2014 10:59

the older hudl is selling at £79 on tesco direct i think, or it was last week.

i haven't had a go on the kindle fire to compare, but for the price, the functionality on the hudl is brilliant.

SkullytonFlowers · 09/11/2014 11:01

i haven't played with the parental controls on the hudl2 as my kids aren't allowed to touch it yet (they get the original hudl to use now, lol)

but i can have a mess if you want a review :)

no trouble with in-app purchases as i have my google account set to ask for a password with every purchase, and the actual tablet itself is password protected so they cant get on it without me inputting the pw.

Mintyy · 09/11/2014 11:01

Have to say it again, it is NOT obvious what this thread is about from the thread title.

RJnomore · 09/11/2014 11:03

Dd loves the hudl, and when I've used it, it seems like a good wee tablet. Everyone else in the house is on apple but she's a bit clumsy and the hudl seems more robust somehow.

We did have a problem with the charging point which is apparently a common flaw but tesco replaced it with a brand new one without a quibble. I saw one poster on here though who had been through a silly amount of hides with technical problems, to the point tesco refunded her money and gave her vouchers while replacing the hudl yet again, so there are some problems I think.

Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin · 09/11/2014 11:03

laura I'm not big on photos but I think you can use apps like Flickr, whatsapp & instagram on both. Someone who's more of a photo buff may have better advice.

RJnomore · 09/11/2014 11:05

Minty ok theres a typo and I can understand some confusion over what theee is but what part of "what have you bought the dc" in the Christmas topic is it that you are struggling with?

AllThatGlistens · 09/11/2014 11:05

That'd be fab, thanks Skully Grin

He's 11 in March, super super bright and is constantly reading but has High Functioning Autism and is extremely naive and vulnerable to bullying/ would give out personal details in a heartbeat etc so we need to monitor his tablet use really heavily.
