Ds (4) had a ton of stuff. His favourite was a lollipop and a packet of stickers. Someone please remind me of this next year when I'm spending loads of money. The lollipop and stickers cost £3.50 in total, I should have stopped there!

However hits have been: imaginext dinosaurs, light saber, make your own dinosaur magnets, light up globe, doc mcstuffins dr kit and burping burt game.
Misses have been: toothless fire breathing Dragon (doesnt work properly), furreal daisy (as I knew it would be but he'd been begging for it for months), great big armed forces helicopter (too big and requires both hands to lift so then can't shoot).

We still have some stuff to look at and put together tomorrow.
Is it me or do most toys nowadays seem a little, well, shit? Apart from the imaginext most of what ds has had feels rather flimsy and as though it might break quite easily. Or it just doesn't work properly in the first place.

Hits for DD (4):

Barbie Mariposa
LaLa Loopsy
Minnie dressing gown
Topsy & Tim, Peppa and Songbirds books
Inkoo
Showcam
My Little Pony Pinkie Pie soft toy

Misses:

Disney Ludo game - she got bored very quickly

Lukewarm:

Furreal Daisy (thought she'd love it but she seems ambivalent. I love it though!)

lostintoys · 30/12/2013 17:25

Hits for DS (7): Scalextric Micro; Beano Annual; whoopy cushion; Paper Jamz guitar; Shrinkles Egg-Heads

Lukewarm: Tech-Decks; crystal-making kit; Zingshot catapult

No real misses.

TheNightIsDark · 30/12/2013 17:33

We are on our second christmas today as we have DSD.

DS (4) got a leappad 2. He hasn't stopped saying thank you and that he's going to keep it forever!

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 30/12/2013 21:10

Another Hit was

Ottoline books, at first she didn't seem interested on the actual day, however she has now, read one and half of them! Steaming through.

Taffeta · 30/12/2013 21:21

Oh the Ottoline books are lovely!

If she likes those, you could also try Goth Girl.

Lancelottie · 30/12/2013 21:41

Sadly, the biggest hit was the (very) secondhand trombone off Ebay.

unlucky83 · 30/12/2013 21:45

Ahh just read up thread ...
Massive miss too for DDs (12 and 6) bloody slushy cup makers ...have been in the freezer since Christmas day and think they are just about frozen enough to try tomorrow! Not one successful slushy yet ...
(Admittedly they did keep trying before they were frozen enough for the first few days ...but still useless! Wish I'd taken more notice of the Amazon reviews!)

Only got them one each cos DD2 really really wanted one and could imagine the arguments if DD1 didn't get one too ....bought them end of November and by Christmas DD2 had forgotten she had asked for one! A complete waste of £24!
Other miss a subscription for the Beano for DD2...a gift one from Tesco cos almost half the price of one direct from DC Thomson (publisher)Sad especially cos I have a direct debit subscription from them for a magazine for DD1 would have thought they might have given me a better deal... anyway went to register online and first issue we can get is 8th Feb!!! (Beano is weekly...so why such a long wait???) Wish I'd activated it before Christmas ...
Hits -sadly but not surprisingly - a laptop for DD1 and a 3DS for DD2 ...
But also a Beano joke book (not with me though! - the amount of fake laughing I've had to produce has become wearing) and a sparkly notebook for DD1 to write her stories...Now 86 and a bigger memory card for her phone means DD1 has become surgically attached to her phone and ear phones...Hmm

Pascha · 30/12/2013 22:03

Ds1 hits are his Bosch toolkit, giant puzzles and scooter. Misses - a stupid big noisy fire engine which he hasn't looked at except to say shut up Blush which one grandparent bought, and the fireman Sam dvd.

Ds2 hits are the groggy drop thing, but the vtech walker and the click clack track. No misses but then he's only 11 months old so everything is fair game to him.

LittleMissRedSparklyBaubles · 30/12/2013 22:04

PS4 was of course a huge hit with DS1 (14) but his next favourite present was a pack of Beano cards I bought on Christmas Eve as a stocking extra. He has been learning card tricks on You Tube and testing them on us (is becoming a bit wearing!!)

DS2 (12) loves his slanket and Naruto Tshirt. We got him a drawing tablet and though helikes it, think he has found it more complicated than he thought it would be, hopefully will learn it better in the fullness of time.

DH is rocking his Where's Wally pj bottoms Grin

MoJangled · 31/12/2013 09:09

please oh please can people put DCs ages on any further posts? saving this thread to use for inspiration for fleet of forthcoming birthdays and poss even Xmas next yr!

DS (3) hits: drum set (thanks MIL!); playdoh digger set, lightening McQueen onesie (aka racing driver suit); lego fire engine, hotwheels door track; Tap Tap vehicles set; stickers... all stickers...

misses: beautiful pop-up books from DIL, wooden John Lewis toaster set; both works of art but not interested.

DNs 10 & 12 Hollister tops and glitter spray; DN 8 pillow pet, sparkly Gap handbags for all girls, all seemed to be hits. only miss I was aware of was expensive watch for DN2 but suspect that was more chocolate comedown and lack of sleep than anything else.

devilinside · 31/12/2013 09:49

Hudles: major hits DS and DD (7&8)
Lego friends cruise ship: Hit for DD
Pokémon X: Hit for DS
Monopoly: Hit for DD

Hex Bugs all the latest kit to share: haven't been played with that much, but I suspect it will be a slow burner

Smellies and clothes: hits for DD
Pokémon cards, play dough, moshi monsters smellies: hits for DS who has ASD

Dancergirl · 31/12/2013 12:31

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 31/12/2013 12:53

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 31/12/2013 13:00

Ohh its another Chris R thanks so much Taffeta....will def have to get that Xmas Smile

snowmanshoes · 31/12/2013 13:01

My dd also had a slushy cup and I put in freezer pretty much all day, I also put a can of coke in the fridge right at the back at the same time. Then when I put the coke in (putting slushy cup lid on immediately) and started squeezing. It worked! Really slushy!
Not trying to say none of you have done this but it did work with (freezing cold) coke lol!

JugglingUnwiselyWithBaubles · 31/12/2013 14:13

DS(12) wanted a uni-cycle, was slightly concerned in case he found it too difficult - but he began to get the hang of it on Christmas afternoon, and has recently been impressing everyone in the park as can now go, what, about 100 yards?
Also happy with the lego we got him (re-cycled from ebay) - wish we'd got him some earlier, but still enjoying it - and made an imaginative dinosaur this morning.
DD(14) also delighted with her tablet, which was a complete surprise for her. Also various books she was looking forward to.
Art things (naice pencils) from DGPs also already being put to good use, and some fun this morning making our own crisps with nice and easy microwave crisp maker.

JugglingUnwiselyWithBaubles · 31/12/2013 14:22

Oh, and colourful pipe-cleaners and pack of mini playing cards were both big hits Santa wise with dd, even at 14!

Best response I had though was from DNeice aged 5 who looked at her big proper box of chocolates with The Snowman on the front (from Thorntons, a bargain in pre-Christmas sale for £2) and said, wide-eyed ...

"Ooooh, these look tasty" Xmas Grin

Marcelinewhyareyousomean · 31/12/2013 15:46

Lots of slushy 's here, it was a massive hit. You have to make sure the drink you make is as cold as can be and then it will work every time. We've used it everyday and I'm fed up washing it.

wonderingsoul · 31/12/2013 15:48

not christmas present but birthday that was on the 28th..

doggy doo.. its been played with 10000 times. its gross, funny and we all love it lol.

Millie2013 · 31/12/2013 15:54

DD (10m) didn't have a clue what was going on, but loved her mega bloks, Violet the programmable bear and that bloody Fisher Price cookie jar (my ears are bleeding)

But her absolute favourite thing (wrapping paper aside) was a box of simple wooden blocks from the ELC

confusedofengland · 31/12/2013 18:29

A favourite for both my DSes (ages 5.0 & 2.8) was a pot of cotton reels, that I Father Christmas purchased at the local charity shop for £2. There are 6 different colours, so they love to stack them, play mini boule with them, pretend they're other things, put them back in the pot...anything except thread them Grin

DS1 also loves his Playmobil pirate ship (birthday present for 17th December) & knight's outfit. DS2 also loves their large toy aeroplane & his Thomas DVD.

Kikibee · 31/12/2013 18:59

Hudls x 5 :)

VestaCurry · 01/01/2014 05:23

A thingy that captures game playing on consoles eg x box and simultaneously records the users commentary. Lots of these get uploaded onto youtube, so others can eg see how to get better at a game or just listen to some amusing commentary alongside it. Dc's 10 and 12 v happy with it. Plus an apps voucher each for their mini iPads and the always welcome book vouchers.

ilovesmurfs · 01/01/2014 08:43

vestacurry which one/type did you get? ds2 wants one of the devices to record games footage off xbox and upload ut. but when i looked online i got a bit lost looking at the diff stuff to do it! some of it is quite expensive.

SeaDevilscanPlay · 01/01/2014 08:45

Can you give us a link Vesta - DS1 would love one of these.
