Hits and misses for dc presents?

Ds (4) had a ton of stuff. His favourite was a lollipop and a packet of stickers. Someone please remind me of this next year when I'm spending loads of money. The lollipop and stickers cost £3.50 in total, I should have stopped there!

However hits have been: imaginext dinosaurs, light saber, make your own dinosaur magnets, light up globe, doc mcstuffins dr kit and burping burt game.
Misses have been: toothless fire breathing Dragon (doesnt work properly), furreal daisy (as I knew it would be but he'd been begging for it for months), great big armed forces helicopter (too big and requires both hands to lift so then can't shoot).

We still have some stuff to look at and put together tomorrow.
Is it me or do most toys nowadays seem a little, well, shit? Apart from the imaginext most of what ds has had feels rather flimsy and as though it might break quite easily. Or it just doesn't work properly in the first place.

Ds (7) loves his hudl, stunt scooter, ezy roller and Lego as well as his secret agent kit and survival kit I made up for him.

Dd (3) loves her bike, dolls house, Barbie stuff and peppa pig palace. She got a didicar too which I think she'll love but she's been focused on her bike and she also got a cheap tablet but I think that'll probably come into its own when were travelling etc where she is forced to sit still! Oh and a kind MNer knitted her some teddies she desperately wanted and they've been going everywhere with her.

No big misses I don't think although ds has went on and on about an army playset for months, had it at the top of his Santa list etc and as yet it isn't out the box!

There are other things they haven't played with yet but it's only Boxing Day!

tiamariaxxx · 26/12/2013 22:16

None of mine have done too bad this year, weve got the usual teddys and art sets which we do always end up of too many. Others are clothes for the kids that wont fir them so going to have to try swap them but its so hard my auntys wripped the tags off pjs for my ds and dd luckilly i can save the girls pjs for my youngest she'll grow into them but dont know what to do with the boys may have to try sell them i know asda still have them in stock so bit frustrating

TheNightIsDark · 26/12/2013 22:29

Sorry I know it's not funny but I'm imagining the look of horror at opening a granny gobbling wolf!

We have had no misses really. Well all of 17 week old DS's as there are things for the year such as toot toto garage, highchair, toys etc. that he can't use yet.

spiderlight · 26/12/2013 22:55

Lots of hits here, the biggest being Tagamoto. He absolutely loves it - it's pretty much a perfect replication of what I imagine the inside of his head to be like 99% of the time! Loves his new neon green bike too, and he and DH are both well into Skylanders already. I don't think there have been any misses - we had an extremely happy little boy yesterday!

mouse26 · 26/12/2013 23:21

Hits here were the Nintendo ds2's - They've been going on and on about having Nintendo ds's for months but didn't think they would actually get them Smile

DS2 (5 yo) LOVES his bag of toy soldiers - even though they were just a stocking filler and he has tonnes of them all over the house Grin

Only one miss really - somebody gave them gumball machines despite the fact they knew we don't let them have chewing gum Confused

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/12/2013 23:35

DD had lots of great presents. No misses.

The present that has given the most joy is the crystal growing tree that was about £3.50 in Hawkins' Bazaar. She 'planted' it this morning and has been checking it constantly, getting really excited as the crystals form.

ElenaMP · 26/12/2013 23:49

Pair of guinea pigs for 11 year old son. Hope I don't end up doing the cleaning....

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/12/2013 23:53

You probably will end up with the cleaning but guineas are lovely, they squeal and purr and give you so much love you won't mind. Mine goes mad when he hears the fridge door, squeaks and squeals until he gets something to eat (he's indoors as he's alone and they can pine).
:)

All three of them adored their microwavable teddies. I found them in the chemists and they're really funky colours and really soft. The kids have fallen in love with them.

The Wii u is going down a storm, especially pikmin 3 and transformers prime.

Dd is almost 9 and has been playing Lego friends and harvest moon on her 3ds since she got the games yesterday, loves them.

Ds1 is 7 and got rugby gear which was a massive hit and liked the hex bug I got him a lot more than I thought he would... I sort of wish I'd gotten him more now!

My mother got ds2 who's 4.11 a new omnitrex which he adored and has played with non stop since he opened it. He's overjoyed that the little blind bag Ben 10 figure he got in his stocking turned out to be alien x and honestly wouldn't have cared if he hadn't gotten another present after that.

We've had no real misses tbh, pumpaloons is shit but they've actually used it more than I expected. I bought it as ds2 was obsessing over it but I didn't think it would be any good however the boys discovered quite quickly that they can be used as 3 foot tall sumo wrestlers so they're happy and the stupid bloody things are actually being played with so I'm happy Xmas Wink

2kidsintow · 27/12/2013 00:04

DD2 loves, loves, loves her furby. Thank goodness. I got it from Toysrus when they had them for £45 and then got 20% off that by ordering online, but as she'd not actually asked for one I thought it was a bit of a gamle at that price.

She thinks it's the best thing ever.
She also got a lot of audio books as she loves listening to them just before bedtime.

DD1 loves her 1D bits and pieces (watch/stationery/wallet/DVD) and her touchscreen gloves.
She screamed loudly when she opened her tickets to go and see Russell Howard. :) :)

Anyoneforacheckup · 27/12/2013 00:13

Hits
Ds 12 Tiger onesie

Ds 22 homemade hamper of exotic / japanese goodies

Dd 20 Soap and glory toiletries

Longdistance · 27/12/2013 00:22

Hits for dd1 (4) Barbie plane, robot dog, spira graph set, washing machine that spins/flashing lights etc, Hello Kitty portable play house. Miss was probably the clothes she got.

Hits for dd2 (2.6) Peppa phonics, scooter, meowing cat, play dough set.
Miss was a Cloud Babies house. Thought she'd love it, but it was a pain to set up...but we'll see.

mathanxiety · 27/12/2013 00:43

DD4 (12) hasn't taken off her slanket yet. She is all done up in her Elf eye shadow and wearing her perfume DD2 got her, watching A Christmas Story again.
DD3 (15) loves her android tablet and wants a slanket.
DD2 (18) got a few things she liked; a huge mug, a mini zen garden for her dorm room, and a little 8x11 felt banner I made for with a Lion King theme (she was a huge Lion King fan back in the day).
DD1 swooned over a pile of socks I got her, also some fancy body butter.
DS also got socks, and some t-shirts; he is the strong and silent type but I gathered he liked his memory foam pillow too (for his dorm).

ashamedoverthinker · 27/12/2013 00:43

Skylanders Swap Force (obs)

Transformers x 2 large, massive gamble but lovely to see him play with actual toys

He cant wait to do his potato clock, and his electronics set. So quite enthusiastic but we'll see how they pan out.

Harry Hill joke book - massive hit!

mathanxiety · 27/12/2013 00:43

DD1 and DS are 23 and 20.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 27/12/2013 00:45

Hits

DS (2) 70p or thereabouts inflatable football in stocking Hmm
DD (9) first pair of heels (low!)
DD (8) WiiU

The DDs have also loved all the little bits of stocking stuff, owl lip balm, penguin handcream, hair chalks, harajumika (I know that's not right!) perfumes, books and minecraft lego sets.

Miss
Any kind of 'craft box' set. By that, I mean those 'knit your own teddy' and 'sew a flower handbag', 'make your own headband/lipgloss' type presents. They are a miss for many reasons, including the facts that they require either knitting knowledge of which none of us possess, patience to sew anything that will still look shit after 6 hours and pricked fingers, and as for the make your own things, they are always disappointing! These were presents that were given to them, I didn't buy them Grin

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 27/12/2013 09:09

THE biggest hit present that got THE Xmas face & almost brought DD(11) to tears of joy :) was tickets to her first proper gig of HER choice - she's a big Rizzle Kicks fan & the tickets have sold out within hours the last few tours - she thought they had this time too - they had online - I managed to pull a few strings & get a pair of second release tickets direct from the venue - hidden in a big box so she had no idea at all - it was pure magic :)

ashamedoverthinker · 27/12/2013 09:19

aw thats lovely rocking

BlessThisMess · 27/12/2013 10:16

Biggest hit for dd1 (12) was a Hunger Games Katniss costume - cargo trousers, military boots, black T-shirt and black jacket that DH and I took aaages sticking duct tape onto. Also Hunger Games poster, calendar, wristband and archery lessons!

Biggest hit for DD2 (9) -everything! Lego Friends, password journal, Furby, Animal Crossing New Leaf for her DS.

LittleMissGreen · 27/12/2013 11:33

Everything been a hit here but they didn't have big piles this year (learnt by mistake in the past).
DS1 loves his lego sets, 007 books and aftershave (samples) and remote control helicopter from his uncle.
DS2 spent ages with his tagamoto, hexbugs and bakugan and currently working through his electronics kit with DH.
DS3 currently building his lego dinosaurs, loves his diy massive foam dinosaur from his granny and his imaginext spinosaur.

ChoughingNora · 27/12/2013 11:40

Everything was a hit here too which I was really pleased about.

Dd1 (9) was delighted by her schleich horse stable, she hasn't stopped playing with it since it was opened.

Ds (3) loves his furby and his Vtech robot.

Dd2 (23 months) loves absolutely everything, including other dc's toys too. Doc mcstuffins doll a huge hit and Peppa pig figures.

Bargain of the year was dd2's kitchen which was £23 from verbaudet. Quality of it is amazing and all three dc's have played with it.

VoodooChimp · 27/12/2013 12:50

DD loves her bike and craft stuff best.

The monster high colour me creepy set is an utter pile of crap, as I knew it would be, but it was the only thing DD really wanted.

We can't get the slushy maker to work either, not sure what we're doing wrong Confused

Amiable · 27/12/2013 13:24

lots of hits for us too - specially the 3DS XL and dictionary/thesaurus set for DD (7) and the Spongebob Squarepants playhouse and wooden train set for DS (3).

BIG miss was "Where the Wild thing are" DVD for DS - the cover was too scary so might be a while before we watch the film itself!

DH loved his Star Trek Enterprise pizza cutter, and I love my hudl.

all in all it's been great.
